Remember when you guys bought the $100 fishing boat in Oakland, CA. As you probably know, a lot of piracy and theft is now taking place in Oakland harbor. Docking a small boat anywhere around NYC seems sketchy.

Great vid, as always...brought back memories of going thru Hell Gate with some friends in a 19' Bayliner. A smooth ride down the Hudson from Tarrytown, then all HELL broke loose. Never saw such confused waves. Took one over the bow, much to the dismay of Rick and Ann. But an amazing adventure, South Street Seaport, Statue of Liberty. Going past Yankee Stadium on day when message board announced, "Today Tom Seaver goes for his 300th win". Good stuff. Also, when i lived, worked in CT would always check out that boatyard when i drove past, to see what was up on the hard. Would see some serious ocean going ships. Best part about Bridgeport is the Port Jeff ferry and Captains Cove for a plate of clams. Both of you in the foul weather gear, lol.......where did all the muscles go??

Okay, this is a nit pick, but whatever. Part of Liberty Island belongs to New Jersey. The part that matters because it has the gift shop on it. The rest of Liberty Island is an enclave of New York which both the states of New York and New Jersey agreed to in the 1800s. This agreement gave New York the island and a handful of other islands in exchange for New Jersey getting her piers back. Hat tip to CGP Gray for the education on this topic. See the video entitled "Who Owns the Statue of Liberty?"

No The Statue of Liberty is definitely not in New Jersey. There is a Statue of Liberty State Park in New Jersey. Perhaps you saw this online and became confused? But the Statue of Liberty is on Liberty Island which is technically neither owned by NY or NJ. It is one if the Federally owned Islands is run by the Federal Park Service just like Ellis Island. But though a Mutual Pact Agreement made between the states of New York and New Jersey a very long time ago, Liberty Island, Ellis Island, and the Statue of Liberty fall into the territorial jurisdiction of the State of New York in New York Bay.

Boat in West islip, and Fire Island is Long Islands crown jewel. 💎 Gotta BS about Long Island a bit. Im a little older than you guys, at 48, but watching you guys sail is fascinating. Billy is one salty skipper. Great teamwork. Tonight I’m watching the Hells Gate episode. That water way is no joke! I want to make the run from the GSB to The Statue of liberty 🗽!! Nice video! Depending on the mast height, you can do the great South Bay and the ny state boat channel. You can at least go in to a few of the inlets. We did the loop around li a few years ago and did the great south bays, it’s a sailing adventure place that most never go. It’s crazy shallow, but it can be done. Incidentally, the solution to the UN closures, which we had during the day, is to to go at night. We put up a video of this, food for thought should you want to go that week in the future.
