My good friend the late Carl Wade who left us almost 10 years ago was the lead programmer on this game when we both worked at Iguana / Acclaim back in the 90s. Technically the game was actually really good for the time! Carl would have had a good laugh at this review - thanks for the nostalgia and funny review!

42 myself. I consider balls an essential comedy tool. In fact, as we speak, I have a non-lethal cyst in one of my seminiferous tubules, causing my balls to look swollen, and it's comedy gold. Plus, if it doesn't go away by itself, I can get a free vasectomy at the same time the urologist removes the cyst. I'm not having any kids, have you seen how I look? No way. But on the subject of balls, even the absence of balls is funny, for example, a eunuch. Plus, no matter how censorship-y YT gets, they can never stop us from laffing about balls, because a ball is an important shape that people still need to talk about. You can't suppress ball discussion, because then many shape-related videos would be flagged, and children need shapes to learn. Now that A.I basically means kids can easily fake their homework, YT must pick up the slack and teach our children. Dear God, Idiocracy will be coming soon. And speaking of Idiocracy, there was the popular TV show "Ow My Balls"

Hi from a fellow northern lass! I have struggled with anxiety / GAD in the past, went through therapy & I am finally in a state where I have the resources & control to cope. I used to play on the N64 with my younger brother & your vids bring back lots of good nostalgic memories! (Apart from when he deleted my Zelda game, still cant forgive him for that even now!) I know content creation is balls(!) and how amazingly hard it is to drag oneself out of whatever manic mind melt we are going through that day/month or year. So thank you, thank you, thank you for Octavius, may she reign supreme!

The Japanese version shows it was possible to make the character design less irritating, but only a bit less.

The game SpeedRunners (2016) uses a lot of the same base concepts, but actually does a decent job of it. The fact it restricts everyone into a small space so conflict keeps going makes such a major difference.

Octavius, always good to see you. ^_^ I hope you don't stress over your video output too much. I'm of the opinion that you'll make videos when you make videos and I'll watch them when I watch them. That being said I understand why having new material on a regular basis is important so I hope you find a good balance.

The "jibble" you mention is called a "dewlap." It's a flap of skin that is tetheres between the jaw and a rib of cartilage that can be flared and retracted. It's used by reptiles in the process of sun-basking, and for body language to communicate with other animals, particularly to intimidate possible rivals or deter predators.

This is one of those games that I've seen the box art for so many times when I was younger but never have actually seen any gameplay or have any clue what it is about. Thanks for finally informing me of it's content with this fun video brimming with amusing analogies and a rather vast coverage of this game from reviews in magazines to alternative versions. 1:04 - Same; I've heard of Aero (believe it got a GBA port or sequel as well) but certainly never heard of any Kamikaze Squirrel.

This is brilliant; 9:00 "ASLJKHSDGIKOUGASL" looks like someone just bashed the keyboard, and yet reads uncannily like what is actually being said. I have so many favourite parts, but I had to pick just one. I see your Twitter and then I'm just amazed at how often your videos come out and how great the are, in spite of what's going on. It's just awesome the Octavius character is actually helping you. I know your videos are helping other people too.

Don't be silly whatever inference you make it's always going to be gold. I'm an 80s kiddo and I like the basics. I was born in the 80s era and to me really 8 bit computing was absolutely perfect it really was. Yes a lot of nostalgia involved just because I was young and it was all new a shiny. But even so I absolutely adored it. Wont go into the deep side of things but it really did mean a hell of a lot to me. So Sara aka Ovtavious, all this 8 bit nostalgia really is profound than you might think. Forget all the sentimental dribal but I like your candid stuff about your mental troubles. I've been there and I totally understand. I get you totally I really do. Then again you probably think he hasn't got a god damn clue. I do though I really do.

I too thought of Madballs when I saw the characters. They didn't have one that was all teeth (that I recall, anyway), but there was one that was a huge eye. As far as the gameplay, it reminds me a bit of the SNES game Uniracers. Mostly the look of the tracks, and the fact that it's a side scrolling racer.

There was a toy line back in the day called Madballs which where spherical characters that where either creepy just to be creepy or had their own charm. I have to wonder if Iguana wanted to do a Madballs game, but Acclaim weren’t going to shell out for the license. So came Iggy instead.
