There’s really no need to “keep up” with the games that come out, it’s practically impossible really; just play whatever game you want even if it’s from 10 years ago

I mostly play older games on sale & games on Game Pass. It’s pretty hard for me to want to spend $60-70 on a new game when it will be better and more patched when it goes on sale later. Especially when I have over 100 games I haven’t played that i want to still.

Way back in 2012 i made a resolution to clear out my backlog. I had games dating back to the Gamecube and PS2 days. The only new game i bought that year was Mass Effect 3. I cleared out a bunch of old games but let some go through trade ins and giving some away I knew I wouldn't finish. i was really proud of myself and then Steam came into my life....

You know what... Upon thinking about it... If you were to ask 10 year old me 'hey how you coming along with your back log'? I would have been like... WHAT THE HECK IS A BACKLOG??? and that's because as a kid I got like 5 or 6 games a year if I was extremely lucky and 2 to 3 on average... The idea of a gaming backlog only came into my lexicon around a year after I got my first job and my backlog has just become a constant background thought in the back of my mind 24/7 and now in 2021 in my thirty's... I'll never catch up but I'll never give up... I find now... I'm just gonna play the games in order of what I'm most currently excited about. Thanks for reading this fellow human gamer, much love

I find the best way to deal with a backlog is don't build up a backlog in the first place, don't buy a bunch of games simply because they're on special - you'll save yourself a lot of time & money.

I’m in my early 40’s, so I had many of the same experiences as Daemon and Sam. The one thing that I used to get so excited over the most was my EGM delivery each month. Like when I grabbed my mail one morning on a Saturday to find my new issue of EGM with The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time on the cover! I can still feel that excitement I had looking at the cover stories from Zelda to MGS and Resident Evil! Subscribers would get their copies of the magazine earlier than the stores sometimes too, and you’d have info before most people. In a time before the internet was prevalent, magazines ruled new information for video games. The 90’s were such a great decade! Quite possibly the last of the magical decades before the millennium changed everything…

The wireless adapter on GBA was pretty big for Pokemon fans. It would come bundled with Pokemon Firered or Leafgreen. It was great for me as a kid as it was the first time I was ever able to actually trade pokemon with someone and get those special evolutions. For some reason those GB link cables were rare among the kids at my school. If I recall they broke pretty easily.

I've worked 60-70 hours per week since graduating college. There's usually at least 10-20 games per year I would like to play but only have time to finish 2-3 per year. I joke with my gaming bud that I'm going to have a mountain of games to play when I retire. The bad thing about modern games is you can't play them all from disc, and 20 years from now they may not be supporting games from this generation even if you have the system and game in good condition. I tip my hat to people that make games available for emulation. My old self in the future will need it.

Every time I finish a game I look at the achievement/trophy to see how many people finished it and it blows my mind how few people actually finish games. I don’t ever see myself not finishing a game unless it’s sucked. It’s like going to see a movie and thinking it’s good and 10 minutes in leaving because you “got what you wanted out of it”. To each their own but I work hard for my money to just throw a game aside like that.

I am "actively" playing one game on each of my consoles as my backlog. In no particular order its: Dragon Quest IV on DS, Metroid 2 Remake on 3DS, Shin Megami Tensei V on Switch, GTA San Andreas on PC, DMC V on PS4, Xenoblade X on Wii U, Lost Odyssey on Xbox 360, and Mega Man Legends on my PS3. I sometimes go months between playing any of these games, but when I do, I binge for a couple weeks straight. Additionally, in regards to Fire Emblem GBA; it is an original game not a remake or port. It is Fire Emblem 7, a prequel to the, at the time, recently released Fire Emblem (6) in Japan that starred Roy from Smash Bros Melee. Put some respect on the series' name in the future the games are really good.

I remember SC II. for the Nintendo game cube my grandmother loved fighting games we played that for Christmas that year. In fact when you guys talked about our family traditions my grandmother loved the video games from the old NES days and if it was a hot Nintendo series we were on it F zero Zelda star fox Mario all the iterations of Mario in fact Mario kart was a household staple for the weekend me my stepbrother my cousin my grandmother we ran all the tracks to see who had the most wins. Mario party was nuts because we were all gamers. Our tradition was to always play video games during the holiday season my grandmother will cook Thanksgiving dinner with my mother and then my mother would have to pry my grandmother away from the video games with us to make us eat. Those were the good old days.

Man, it's been like a year or something since I watched an episode of Game Scoop!, and I think it's because I actually really do prefer the format you've ended up with due to Covid. I never liked that formal and stale sitting behind a desk setup where you looked like a bunch of newscasters talking to each other. It just looked too corporate for me or something. This newer format almost feels a bit like going back to when you were all sitting on the couch just chillin' out talking games in the earlier shows. I guess the whole "we're all just a bunch of mates on our webcams broadcasting from home" vibe makes it feel a bit more personal and friendly again. I hope you can stick with something similar even after Covid.

My backlog has definitely been worse. Right now it's Far Cry 6, Hades, Cod Vanguard campaign, and the Hot Wheels campaign and Deathloop. I've been kind of slowly chipping away at all of them since purchase so I'm pretty far along in most of them. Hopefully I can finish at least a couple before Christmas cause that's when the real backlog piles. Deathloop is the only one of haven't touched in quite some time. I've almost thought about just straight up cutting it from the roster but I did like it quite a bit and think I should just see it through cause it's not too long. Though I heard they raised the AI difficulty so that may be an issue 😂
