Excellent video. Thanks for sharing know-how on this stuff, Tom. I have a passat 2005 with a bit similar issues (the power to the left side turning signals won't disconnect, even when the ignition is off and the key is out) I suspect it has to do with the ignition switch (?) Your video anyway will be very useful in the troubleshooting. 🙏 Ps. Would those wiring diagrams possibly be available on the net? (I've found some, but none yet with the details I'm looking for..)

Considering the year & mileage... it lasted quite a while!
@PositiveLeadDiagnostics6 жыл бұрын
true, I though it was an electrical switch issue at first, I have seen those ignitions housings go bad on most of the newer vws but never on an old b5
@EXOVCDS6 жыл бұрын
Funny, I haven't seen any new ones go bad yet. Guess people get them fixed at the dealership. I see more mk4's with the same issue... nice that VW & Audi keep things similar across the different platforms.

Do either of you ever experience problems with "push button" ignitions after years of use? Thanks!!!
@PositiveLeadDiagnostics6 жыл бұрын
I have seen a few push to start failures. Mostly due to something being spilled on it

We have an issue with our 03 passat, where the key works just fine, and feels normal to the turn, but when moved to the "Start" position it (in cold weather) tends to NOT engage the starter. Physically it feels like (just from watching your process), that we have an ignition switch issue. IS it the White (or black and purple connector) that would force you to get a new reprogrammed key/chip? Just trying to figure out if replacing the white switch would completely disable the car?
@rrmech116 жыл бұрын
Great job. Tommy

@lukecartwright18036 жыл бұрын
I know. I saw that video a while back. And went back to it for help. All the same symptons. Although i have vommunication fron the master on the lin bus. Window is still inop unless i unplug it then it works for about ten minutes. Can a defective master door module cause the slave to be inop even thougj the master works?
@PositiveLeadDiagnostics6 жыл бұрын
which window is inop? I suppose it could if its not sending the right messages.
@PositiveLeadDiagnostics6 жыл бұрын
if its on a lin bus you almost have to have an issue with that lin wire, with those symptoms and it works when you unplug and reconnect it, what does your network look like when you unplug the side that doesn't work?
@lukecartwright18036 жыл бұрын
The right rear door is inop from its own door and the drivers door master switches. Untill i unplug it and reconnect it. It only works from its own door. Still dead on drivers side. All swutches are good. And i replaced the rr door module. I dont remember the exact voltages on the wave form but when i compared it to the left side they seemed identical. I dont belive it changed when i unplugged the rr door module. I did a continuity and ohm check on lin wire. Passed. I suspect a possible coding issue

I wanted to know if you can help with this. I have a 1999.5 VW Golf Automatic where I have no spark. Automatic transmission that was having issues before I parked the car about 1 year ago. Do have fuel; Also changed the crank sensor cause it seemed like it could be that but didn't work. I'm getting the following codes: P1300 Igniter Circuit Malfunction No. 1; P0725 Engine Speed Sensor Input Circuit Malfunction; P1857 Transmission Transfer Case Contact Plate 'C' Short Circuit To Ground, P1850 Brake Band Apply Solenoid Circuit. And a couple misfire codes: P0422, P0440, P0304. Would truly appreciate any help.

I wonder how many folks made the mistake of ordering a switch without further diagnosis. I'm assuming they only supply both parts as a unit for that reason :)
@CoolAirVw6 жыл бұрын
You can get a switch in the aftermarket without the housing. But the housing is the most common failure point.
