Here I continue the Bunn Special project by truing a damaged balance wheel in the flat. I talk about the two types of nibs usually seen in calipers (an addendum - if your caliper has cone nibs, these can also be used to check train wheels for truth). My caliper has only large and small truing nibs. I show the damage to the wheel inflicted during a botched staff change, and show how this has led to the distortion of the wheel in the flat. Finally, I show how I true the wheel in the caliper.
One other comment. I say I'm not going to spin the balance fast, and then I do it almost immediately. It's clearly not useful for the actual truing process, but I do think it's somewhat helpful for getting an overall assessment of where you are.
As always, if you want to make comments or corrections, I am happy to hear them. I am always happy for your constructive input. Thanks for watching!
