Ilyasah Shabazz on Nicki Minaj's Malcolm X Cover: She Didn't Know Better

Ilyasah Shabazz, daughter of Malcolm X, shared her thoughts on Nicki Minaj using a photo of her father holding a gun on the cover of her "Looking A**" single cover. She got backlash for using the image, which was taken after Malcolm felt he needed to protect his family after their home was firebombed. Ilyasah responded to the situation by saying that Nicki didn't understand the message behind the photo.
During the conversation, Ilyasah also spoke about why people throughout history have pitted influential black leaders against one another, including Malcolm X and Martin Luther King. She explained that her family is actually close with the Kings, and Ilyasah added that she thought Coretta Scott King was her biological aunt when she was growing up.
Check out more of what Ilyasah had to say in the above clip.

Sister Shabazz is the prototype for what brothers should want in a wife, girlfriend, shorty, whatever you choose to call your significant other. Beauty, brains, class, and the ability to copiously speak on any subject matter thrown her way. There are plenty of sisters in this country who have these characteristics. I hope that us brothers find them. Ase'... Islam...

I still don't understand why there's no Malcolm X holiday or at least a day set aside in the black community to celebrate him. More than just his birthday but to celebrate his deeds and knowledge to the movement. He was on the front lines just like MLK Jr I believe he is owed more than a street corner in a ghetto.
@LeDiuLe

Yes that is such a true statement. And there were differences amongst the originators of the US as she alluded to. Jefferson and Adams had bitter disagreements over how the government should be structured. Yet you never here any talk about making a choice between them. Appears to be a constant effort to keep black people in a state of chaos. Always arguing about something.

She is so intelligent!!! I love this about her. They tried to say when Malcolm X was little that he was a thief and delinquent, but in all actuality he was extremely smart and intelligent, and he carried that over to his children... that is one reason why I believe that in specifically is African American people should get as much as education as possible, because we weren’t able to have the freedom and the right to get the same amount of education that the white people were able to get, and when we were allowed the same education rights they want to say that our people are dumb and can’t learn, but it is up to us to prove them wrong. I love Dr. Martin Luther King and even though Malcolm X was a Muslim and i do not believe in Allah, the only God I worship is Jesus Christ, therefore I am a Christian. I respect him and I do respect what he tried to do for us African American people....

EVERY young _girl_ growing up should strive to be like THIS woman as they grow up - regardless of _color_ ! ( _My only regret is that Prof. Shabazz was not teaching during the time I attended John Jay University. I feel such a loss now_ )
