I fully believe Charlie was simply sent as a guardian angel, he completed his mission when Charlie was born after helping you guys during the struggles of having Leo.

I grew up with an apricot standard poodle, named Strudel , lost him to cancer. Broke my heart when I heard about Charlie. He was part of our Leaf Family , rolled with the ups and downs alongside us.Living in a condo we always have looked to rescue shelters when we want to add to our family. I'm a dog and cat guy, love all critters. In our condo we feel cats are best suited , we have twin brothers, Irving and Winston. Four years ago we lost both our girls ( Jennifer & Molly ) within a week. One cancer , the other complications due to diabetes. We were shattered , they were our children, we don't have kids , and we're OLD lol. Irving & Winston don't replace the girls, they never could . My boys blazed their own trail into our hearts. Irving is flat out psycho and Winston has assumed the physical features of his namesake Mr Churchill , both loaded with personality and love. They are 3 1/2 now. Molly used to sit beside me for Leaf games, but she never saw the playoffs. This may sound creepy, but for the last few years I have brought the urn shared by Molly & Jennifer to the place Molly would sit for games during the playoffs , draped in a mini Leaf jersey ( Jennifer wasn't much for hockey, but given their current living arrangement she doesn't have much choice ;-) ) It almost feels like they're involved in the family again on some level. I know I'm rambling , just wanted to share . The loss is tough, but as you mentioned, you both enriched eachothers time on this planet . Pass the love along.

I feel u Steve, we have a potential life-saving surgery scheduled for our 7 yr old Chihuahua. They will remove the growth, but face the same risks as your Charlie did. We can only hope for the best. Thanks for sharing this Steve, you are a beacon of light in these dark times. RIP Charlie.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My wife lost her Boxer SD (Service Dog) a year and a half ago and I wasn't ready to get another dog so soon. We waited 6 months and behind my back my wife was looking, searching, for a new SD. She wanted a Rottweiler, instead she found a goofy, silly, smart, bright, sweet as can be American Foxhound, that would rather snuggle with critters than hunt and kill them. Cordelia (yes she's named after the song from The Tragically Hip) is 2 years old, and has all the makings of being an excellent SD. We're currently not in training because of COVID-19, but trust me, everything she has learned she is doing and my wife and Cordy can't wait to get back to it. I know it's painful, hell my wife's SD's are suppose to be her dogs but they end up being my one of my best friends, and I am grateful that my wife has the strength and foresight to carry on when I could not. Go find a pal for Iggy, he deserves it, as do you. You aren't replacing Charlie, you remembering him by rescuing another dog, that needs a forever home.

That was heart-warming to say the least. You know when the Leafs finally win their next Cup, Charlie will be smiling down from the great big dog park in the sky, enjoying an endless supply of victory treats. Rest in peace, friend.

My condolences, dude. I had to take my 11-year-old Jack Russell to the doggie hospital this morning. She has diabetes and she's gone blind, wandering around the house bumping into things. There are some eye drops that may restore peripheral vision, but I'll carry her everywhere if necessary. She and my 10-year-old border collie are inseparable, having grown up together. I suggest you get another rescue dog; I've always gotten another dog when one is dying. My champion Airedale and my last rescue dog are buried in the garden; I still miss them, years later. Another dog will help take your mind off the loss.

My dog died last year too. It was painful. But as long you took care and spoiled the big guy. He died a happy dog.

You gave a great home and treated him as one of your children, based on how you describe him he was your son not just a dog it’s gonna be different having only one victory puppy but we will all remember him as one of the two dogs that would get a treat almost every three days during the regular season, he’s always cheering on the Leafs no matter what.

We adopted our cat from the Etobicoke Humane Society a little over a month ago. The process was great, our cat had to get two minor dental surgeries when we got her but she's happy and healthy and has proved SO MUCH joy and warmth. Steve I hope you see this comment. I recently just lost my golden retriever Mickey due to a tumor that ruptured in his stomach, comprising his liver. Worst part was...we didn't even know he had a tumor. He gave me the best 5 years of my life. Unconditional love and undivided attention. I got him when he was just 8 weeks old. I know what you are going through my friend. It's only been one week since I had to listen to his last breath. Everyday gets harder and harder when I look back at his pictures. But I'm happy you shared this, it's teaching me to celebrate Mickey instead of mourning his death. Charlie will always live on with you Steve. And he's in a place playing unlimited fetch with all the bones in the world to chew on. Rest in peace Charlie ❤️🙏🌹🕊️

I lost my dog about 1 month ago. He looked a little like this one. He was an 11 year old golden doodle and he meant the world to me. His name was Lucky. I miss him but i am comforted by the fact that i know he had a full and loving life. Rip to every special pet out there

Hey Steve, we just had the same thing with our rescue Sierra. She passed yesterday with Hemangiosarcoma. It hurts to so much.

I, too, just lost a dog. He was a family member of 18 years, and his health went down hill very quickly at the end of June. He was old, deaf and blind, so we saw it coming for some time, but it is still never easy. I feel for you, Steve. And I'm glad you were able to move past the phase of despair that we all experience when we first lose a loved one. Charlie will always be with you, in fond memory.

Charlie waited for your son to say goodbye. Good boy. May you see him again one day.
