In this video I show you a super easy method of how to weld plastic using only a candle and cable ties or ties or straps as they are known in various countries. Unlike other methods to weld plastic with a heat gun or to repair plastic with a soldering iron, with this method you will not need any special tools. Since plastic parts are everywhere both at home and in the workshop, it may always be necessary to repair some car or motorcycle plastic. Now you can weld car plastics or repair motorcycle plastics or any broken and cracked plastic items and parts instead of throwing them away. Easily repair your cracked plastic parts and items with plastic welding. If you're wondering how to repair broken plastic, be sure to watch the plastic repair video. In this video I will show you how to repair your broken plastic parts using the plastic welding method.

Me suscribo. Saludos.

Make sure you’re using the same type of plastic. Cable ties are typically nylon. Component covers can be ABS, polypropylene, polystyrene, or other plastics. Plastics will weld best to their own kind.

I extended the life of my Jeep radiator that was leaking from the plastic outlet at the top by doing something similar. I used a soldering tip to make a V groove along the crack, melted in the zip ties, then dis several layers over it with more zip ties, a layer of fiberglass cloth (just a small strip) then used JB weld for plastic, another layer of fiberglass cloth (wider this time) then another layer of JB, and on top of that one more layer of each really wide across the outlet. Lasted another YEAR!
@markk3652
@markk3652 Жыл бұрын
Wouldn't replacement of the radiator been a better option? I understand being away from home on a trip in a remote area and having to fashion a repair to get home. Leaving it cobbled together for an entire year seems like a poor plan of let's see how long we can kick the can down the road.
@chrismaggio7879
@chrismaggio7879 Жыл бұрын
@@markk3652 haha yes, if it was my only vehicle I would have done a replacement asap, but at first it was a personal challenge to see if it was possible. I watched a few online self fixes and thought I might have a better way, and just had to test it. I think it was successful in both the method and the result. I kicked the can a good distance and now I have confidence in the job I did. I installed a new radiator and with it came no fear of driving her any where I want. Sometimes, Mark, a guy just has to try the hard way and hope the results earn him a cold beer and a story to tell.

@@MarcosElMalo2 You are melting it on a spoon. It doesn't have to be a long thin shape. You can even shave it into small pieces. Also, one day you will need a zip tie and if you've used them for repair, you have to go buy more. So you aren't really reducing the plastic in the world. While using a similar plastic piece from a discarded or broken plastic toy or other object, is re-purposing something that will just end up in the land fill.

Cable ties are made of nylon and that piece of plastic is probably ABS or similar, so the bond won't be so good. Also the parent material here wasn't heated to melting temperature to assure a maximum bond. So I'm not sure this repair job will hold for long. I've had good experience repairing damage of ABS parts using 2K resin or glue.

Put plastic scraps on the foil to melt 3. Quickly take the foil with melted plastic and turn it upside down, molten plastic side down, and push into a cracked part of plastic to mend it in one go.

In this situation I'd use JB weld. So much easier for similar results.
@canuckfixit7722
@canuckfixit7722 Жыл бұрын
@@dtester Correct because this is a hole that the JB Weld would mechanically "lock" into position even if the epoxy wouldn't properly bond to the plastic body. In some other instances this plastic method of soldering/brazing would definitely be better than epoxy and would tolerate bending.
