I was setting up a tripod and ball head rig for landscape photography. I have a lot of tripod equipment lying around the house, so I had quite a few options to choose from. I had settled on a Manfrotto leg and ball head combo. I really love my Manfrotto equipment and the head was no exception. However, I noticed when you back off the main control, the ball would flop severely with a camera mounted. I ran across your video, and remembered I had this same ball head, never been used, and decided to try it. The fact that this has a much tighter dampening effect when backing off the main control, made this ball head a much better candidate for my need. Just as you said, it is very smooth, robust and well built. I’m thrilled with it. Thanks G.

So you are using two ballheads on top of eachother too? Maybe you can explain why you do that? I just did not understand the reasoning behind doing that. Why you don’t just mount one ballhead and leave it at that? I am considering buying another ballhead, so I won’t have to take one off the tripod to use it on my other tripod or monopod. I am thinking that a 55 or 52mm one will be my best bet, easier for me to handle (having joint problems etc.)… I got another, 44mm I believe it is, Artcise ballhead a while ago, and it is a quite nice head. Very smooth and beautifully built. So my first thought was to get their larger one, thinking it would be the same. But then I stumbled upon this and it seems to get very good feedback… Thanks! 🤗

I have sold that tripod, but what I was trying to do was to use the video base as a stable platform and manipulate the ball head. To be honest, I have moved onto a Benro geared tripod head and love it for composing my camera for Timelapse. I’m going to make a KZfaq video on that device soon.

Honestly, I have moved on to the very best device that is exceptionally sturdy…it is expensive, but most effective…the Benro geared mount head. Can’t say enough good about it. I solely use this with a Manfrotto tripod to shoot Timelapse. Use my name to search KZfaq for my Timelapse, I’ve been using this for the past 2 years and never looked back. The beautiful thing about this mount is that you can make small, discrete changes in 3 axis like no ball head can do!!

Can't understand why so may tripod heads attached?
@lottatroublemaker6130 Жыл бұрын
I’m here much later, but I was wondering the exact same! Why put one tripod ballhead on top of another? What’s the point in that? I would love it if the channel owner could explain why, since he got me real curious!!!

For your fluid head setup I highly recommend the manfrotto 502AH combined with the Kirk arca type bridge adapter. The Kirk bridge replaces the manfrotto top plate with an arca mount that you can change orientation from forward facing to Horizontal facing for mounting long lenses or switching it to use with a camera body directly mounted. An L bracket on the camera body means you won’t need a ball head to achieve portrait orientation you just put the camera in on its side and lock it down. Get a leveling base for the fluid head and you have an all in one solution that doesn’t require anything extra heads or parts. Makes for great single row panoramas as well.

Thanks. I set this up for the Move Shoot Move star tracker, but I am going to sell the tracker and several items that pair up with it, including the Innorel and the Cayer tripod. I have a very solid Manfrotto tripod and an L bracket. Going more into Timelapse, so I’m moving a lot of gear to get better Canon glass.

I am getting ready to release a new video using a Manfrotto tripod and the Benro geared tripod head. For what I am doing now, it suits me quite well. The Innorel ball head stays in my gear bag.

Seems very well made. Thanks for a great review! Question: If you forget to tighten the plate and tilt the ball head, will the camera fall to the ground or will it be saved by some safety mechanism?
@lrtdale3 жыл бұрын
The ball head is fairly well locked into a socket. You camera wouldn’t fall.

Great review! Have you noticed any creep at all since you've been using this ball head? I have 4 pretty hefty Canon RF lenses, including the RF 100-500mm and I'm wondering if creep will "creep in" over time? Thanks!
@lrtdale2 ай бұрын
I tried to reply earlier, but I don’t see it on this platform. In short, I have moved on to the Benro 3-way gear head. More expensive but just simply more stable. I’m going to do a KZfaq on it soon.

@@lrtdale $250 vs $91, yes, quite a jump. I'm anxious to see your video on the Benro and find out if you think the almost 3 times more expensive Benro is worth it. 😎

How does the head tension work. Do you have the model with the head tension on the ball adjustment knob?
@lrtdale3 жыл бұрын
The larger knob tightens the ball head. The smaller knob allows you to rotate the base L < - > R.

@@lrtdale Thanks for the feedback, after doing more research I see that there are two models, the N52 (the one you have, i re-watched the video and yours says N52, missed that) and the M52. I was thinking that they were all the N52 and some had ball tension and some did not. The M52 seems only available via AliExpress and includes a small Arc-Swiss type tension adjustment in the main tension knob. I plan to order an M52 shortly.

I purchased this to use with an iOptron SkyGuider Pro. The large base on the video tripod provides superb support and assures a greater level of confidence that I am on a level platform. I have a workflow to assure 360 degree horizontal leveling. I simply chose that tripod to demonstrate this nifty ball head….seriously!
