When you become the main Disney girl at 11-12, are offered drugs from a very young age and have paparazzi following your every step, everything you do is under a microscope and every detail of your personal life is in the media, it’s normal you will have some issues. This girl was never the Disney it girl and she was nowhere near the level of fame of Selena, Miley or Lindsay (imo she still isn’t). Plus, there is nothing wrong with rebelling in order to cut ties with your Disney persona (miley succeeded, while zendaya is still accociated with kids at the age of 25…) or seeking help while struggling with depression or an ED. Expecting child actors (especially female) to be perfect is ridiculous and unrealistic

I literally grew up feeling this way. I’m black Thai and Hispanic. People assume I’m half black and half white. So I’m too white for black people, but I don’t speak Spanish and I’m not into Mexican food so I seem too white for them and I don’t look Asian and I also didn’t grew up fully with my Asian side of the family so I’m not Asian enough for them. So I grew up so lost.

@K C mixed race people are mixed race people, it’s stupid to call them black or white, they’re both. Sometimes mixed kids look fully black and sometimes they look fully white, sometimes both, anyways depends on the person, I think it’s stupid to call a white passing person a POC or black or anything

What I’m observing from many of you is that you think that RACE, a SOCIAL CONSTRUCT, a person’s VISIBLE PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS, is the same as a person’s heritage. One can be both BLACK and MIXED. This IS / was true for people like Malcom x, Frederick Douglass, Bob Marley, J Cole, Drake, Lauren London, Matt James who is UNAMBIGUOUSLY BLACK, Barack Obama who is the SAME, Beyoncé whose mother is damn near yt passing and mixed AS WELL, etc. Blackness is not and has never been a monolith and both blackness and mixedness exists SIMULTANEOUSLY for MANY Biracial Blk people. Many of them were figureheads during the Panther era and I find it amusing that some of you today swear that they’re “not Blk, but biracial” as if they were treated as anything but Blk during Jim Crowe when they were fighting for us to exist in society the way we do today. “Mixed race” isn’t just half Blk half white, it’s half Chinese half Mexican, half Jamaican half Filipino, etc. So how would mixed race be a group on its own? this, me and my brother are both mixed (same parents) but i'm light skin and have 3c black hair, my brother is straight up almost white passing, pale and with literally blue eyes, he has 4c blonde hair

For real! I’m biracial with white and I have 3c/4a hair….

Yeah I never understood that either but i blame the media. The media always pushes this certain image of a biracial person: Light Skin, Loose Curly hair, and Eurocentric features. I have a friend who’s biracial but she has more Afrocentric features and she has 4b-4c hair. I always feel bad for biracials who don’t possess “typical” features that a biracial person “should have” bc I have met some who have said they never felt like a true biracial person because of what they see in the media. That’s why I feel like even though biracial ppl do have privileges, I feel like there’s a hierarchy when it comes to it. A biracial person with more Afrocentric features and darker skin does not have the same privileges as a biracial person who fits Hollywood’s mold on what they should look like.

Same I’m black Asian and Hispanic, so are my siblings and we all have different hair types. Like both of my brothers have super straight hair but me and my sisters have super curly hair so people that are mixed can literally have any type of hair texture. I don’t see why people think we’re all just gonna come out having 3c curls or something.

Identity representation has always been lacking. At the moment I’m a black girl at a predominantly Hispanic high school and as we’re all filling out our college applications they would occasionally call over the teacher to ask what to put on those types of questions. You would think they would put Hispanic and keep it moving but it’s not like that. It asks them a second question and asks them which category (white, black, Asian, occasionally Native American) they fit into and usually none of them apply to them and the frustration on their face when they have to just put white is saddening. They know their family is from Mexico and that they are without a doubt Mexican but have to put that on a application. One day these will change.

Mixed race Blk people have been uplifting monoracial Blk people for decades most significantly during the Black Panther era and even prior in which many of the figureheads were half Blk i.e Malcom X, Frederick Douglass etc. The biracial Blk folks (half Blk half yt) I’ve encountered, particularly those that aren’t yt passing, are very connected to their Blackness bc that is also how they’ve navigated society.

I understand the feeling. I’m Black and Puerto Rican. I always was forced to choose. “You grew up with black people.” “ You don’t sound like you are this.” “ Why can’t you just choose.” It was devastating but I fought against that. Decided to be proud of BOTH of my heritage.💜❤️☺️

I get it. I’m bi-racial myself… my dad is Belizean and my mom is Native American, I always identify myself as both Belizean AND Native American because that’s what my parents are. I would never discredit one side of my heritage so that I could fit in another side of my heritage when in reality I wouldn’t be able to fit into neither, no matter what side I look like I can appeal to the most , I’ll always be Belizean AND Native American not just the side I look like the most. It’s not that difficult.

I feel this. as an Asian person who is Cambodian and Chinese (southeast and East Asian), I’m more familiar with my Cambodian side more cause I live in the country and has been so ever since birth. lack of exposure to the other side of my Chinese heritage as well as xenophobia and discrimination against them was upsetting to see. often times, people kind of treat Chinese mixed people weird here. it sucks

@@novafox5914 I am Belizean too! But my mom is Belizean creole and my dad is what we call Mestizo. It has been very challenging for me in Belize because I was always seen a black and I was always looked down because of my darker skin tone as a child. As I grew up however my skin did lighten. When I moved to LA I would tell people I am half Latino (or mestizo) and black (creole) and people always looked at me like I grew a third head when I said that. To me the sad thing is black people always talk about feeling out of place in society but they don't realize bi racial people do too. And they are a part of that problem. They isolate biracial people from their social group and feel that biracial people are obligated to help them. And when some refuse to do it they get upset when biracial people don't use their privilege to help them. I myself relate to Zendeya because I have found myself in situations where I try to help other black people in America and stand up to racial injustices being done to them. I had an incident with people at work going through racism and when I stood up to my boss (which by the way I admit I did have privilege because I was not having the same experiences and chose to sand up for my peers) not a single one of them backed me up. Instead they showed their support in private but when it was time to stand up they left me out in the cold. I mean this experience doesn't mean I will stop using my privilege to stand up for what is right but sometimes it's hard doing it for people who isolate you from being a part of the black community and judge you for something you cannot control and still expect you to be on the frontlines for them. I am tired of seeing channels that shit on biracial women all the time. And I get some biracial women can be prejudice but it's not all of us.
