I think Yolanda clearly favoured Gigi when they were kids. I think the two girls were compared alot especially since they inherited very different standards of beauty. Gigi was more European and Bella before the surgeries definitely looked more Palestian. Watching Beverly Hills you can definitely see the favouritism.

I just said the exact same before I saw your comment the way Yolanda used to treat Gigi was appalling god only knows what she said to Bella she probably payed for her surgery’s out of her own pocket even when Bella got a DUI obviously it’s natural no parent would be happy about that but she took it to new levels Yolanda always favourited Gigi & Anwar I’ve always felt terribly for Bella

I personally think plastic surgery should not be normalized the way it has been. Nowadays when people reference a beautiful woman, most of the time that woman has gotten work done (and it’s not to say women who’ve gotten work done can’t be beautiful, it’s just crazy beauty standards have reached a level where it has become a norm and the natural isn’t consider beautiful as much as the ones who’ve had plastic surgeries. As much as people preach about plastic surgery should not be stigmatized and that “getting work done doesn’t mean that a person doesn’t love themselves”, you can’t deny that an individual wanting and getting plastic surgery is a clear symptom of really bad insecurities.

Maybe she thought "what can I do to be there too" Loosing weight and surgery I've seen a little bit of her mother, and the way she handle Gigi's career, if Bella had surgery than her mom approved, so it was not a bad choice for her career au contraire. Bella's upbringing was quite toxic if you think about it. Not to the level of kardashian toxic but nonetheless. On one hand she has her mother, the ex model who's OBSESSED with gigi and her career. ( Its pretty obvious that gigi's her golden child.) on the other hand, Bella is the middle child + didn’t have that nose of a supermodel. So she must have been very insecure about it. obviously her mother pushed her to get the surgery cause She was literally a child of 14 years who didn’t know any better. I feel like people are more angry at her cause although most of the celeb &models have had plastic surgery, 90% of them didn’t achieve what Bella's surgeon could. So it sticks out like a sore thumb when someone praises her beauty and side profile & someone else feels the necessity to point out that she's plastic.

here’s the thing: plastic surgery on an individual level isn’t necessarily a big issue. it’s your money and body, do what you want. yeah it’s sad that you’re struggling to feel secure and confident in certain features and embracing what society labels your ‘imperfections’, but at the end of the day it’s your decision. but i do think it’s worth questioning whether u’d be having that surgery if society hadn’t made u feel insecure about your natural features, especially if afterwards u’re noticing u’re getting treated significantly better etc. and on a larger societal level, it’s also important to acknowledge that getting surgery and drastically transforming your appearance so you more closely resemble the very very limited beauty standard does perpetuate the same cycle that made you insecure in the first place. again, no judgement at all, but i think it’s important to acknowledge this cycle and celebrities are denying surgery is only making young girls even more insecure.

Yep, the whole thing about “doing it for yourself” is bullshit. Our person exists in a society that has certain criteria which it deems good and worthy. This changes from one culture to another. To be completely independent from society is almost non existent (if u are a hermit yeah) in our day and age. If u change yourself to fit what that criteria supposes, you have changed yourself according to society’s standards and therefore public and personal acceptance induced behavior. These are some simple concepts that will appear in basic sociology classes and they exist for a reason.

in all fairness, as a 22 year old now, my face now does look completely different from my school picture as a 14 year old (it was borderline a Bella hadid style transformation) even though i got no work done hahaha. like firstly i learnt the concept of shaping my eyebrows (used to have really thick bushy ones which just didn't complement my face shape whatsoever). and then secondly since I lost a lot of baby fat my head shape just completely changed lmao - i have quite defined, high cheekbones now (i think this phenomenon happens to a lot of Asians tbh) and then i also had braces on my lower teeth which i think sort of contributed to how different i looked. i've shown my friends that picture and they also agreed that I just look like a completely different person and even asked jokingly if I got plastic surgery, and i'm just a normal girl from a relatively working class family!! so i do think it is extremely unfair to compare current, adult pics of celebs to their younger teenaged pics. Although Bella hadid obviously did have a shit ton of surgery done, that's besides the point bc it's unfair to expect celebs to admit to the tweakments they may or may not have made for the sake of the self esteem of impressionable young girls lol. as if naturally stunning girls do not also exist?? perhaps we should teach girls that their worth isn't tied to their beauty and that it's okay to NOT be objectively beautiful?

it's also worth adding that whilst bella hadid's cosmetic procedures helped her elevate to the level that she is now, it's not guaranteed that any amount of plastic surgery will allow everyone to "glow up" to the same extent as her!! this is because bella was very fortunate to be blessed with such a nice base for surgery in the first place, whereas others have certain features (that cannot be changed cosmetically) that just mean that no matter how much work they get, they can't just have the face of a supermodel. similar concept applies to those who had their "glow up" because of puberty-related changes - quite a few girls are fortunate to pretty much look the same throughout their childhood/teen years up until adulthood (can't say the same for myself). so again, it's not exactly bella's or anyone else's responsibility to coddle these girls with self-image issues when they don't "glow up" into a supermodel.

IDC if celebs get plastic surgery if they are honest about it, but it's nice to see there are still some that want to age naturally. Both ladies are stunning and extremely talented actors. I have to wonder if their talent plays a part in them feeling secure enough to say no to surgery.

actual *unpopular opinion* here: i dont think celebrities have to disclose that they've had work done. it's a known secret that 95% of them have had some cosmetic surgery or another. to demand their transparency is unfair to them and is putting them in an uncomfortable position. regular women and men get little nips and tucks and they get to carry on with their lives without anyone prying, whereas celebrities dont and face ridicule for it. and the thing is, most of the time when a celebrity has had something done, it's obvious. theres no need for them to confirm it.

I agree but when they are promoting a product saying this is how they got this or that ( ex. A slimmer nose or a bigger butt) when they’ve clearly gotten surgery is false advertising. Why the fck are people so damn nosy and fixated on whether or not celebs got surgery. If you believe they did, then that's what you believe so no need to tear them down and pressure them or make videos trying to expose them, if you think about it it's literally bullying... They already probably felt insecure to start off with, so what makes people think that dragging celebs through the mud about rumoured surgeries will want them to EVER speak about it. If this happened to me i would be having breakdowns everyday and delete myself from social media so no one could pick me to pieces every single day. Your body, your damn choice.

If you want to keep quiet about it that's fine but to go out of your way to lie about it is wrong. What's worse is when they try to sell people products to achieve their looks when they actually got work done. It's very damaging to their young impressionable fans.

The high fashion modeling industry is definitely not about natural beauty now. It's "do you have the potential to be transformed into whatever I want you to be and are you profitable." They feel that models need to either be naturally stunning, extremely unique, or have just enough to "work with." They will definitely ask you to get something cosmetic done surgically if they feel as though you will look better and/or be more profitable with changed features.

The problem is how ppl in the future gens will grow up having a completely strange relationship to their bodies. Having such delusional standards for beauty. I am same age as Bella and I remember reading a book series in 7th grade called "uglies" by Scott Westerfield. That story was about teens who waited for their 16th birthday to get plastic surgery done and finally become happy, popular whatever and go to that party island to live life to the "fullest". There were a bunch of characters who exposed the fact that when ppl get surgeries, they also get microchipped and loose all their personality, uniqueness, freedom of thought etc. A really orwellian kind of story designed for young ppl to understand better. This book series rly helped me with my struggle to relate to society's expectations

In my opinion, I feel like plastic surgery is way too normalized in our society. I don’t mean to villainize women who do get procedures done, but the whole system of being able to “fix” your every “flaw” is so sad to me. It’s sad that our society and patriarchal beauty standards still influence women to the extent that they have to get their faces literally carved into just to succeed in the modeling industry, and in our society at large. The double standard when it comes to male celebrities is absolutely insane. A woman can’t even go out without makeup, or Heaven forbid unshaved, without being slandered to pieces, but male celebrities can have stubble, unplucked eyebrows, and bellies without their talent being belittled and mocked. Now, it’s gotten to an extent that plastic surgery is rampant among female celebrities. And oftentimes when celebrities get brought up, people gawk at why they got procedures done when they “didn’t need it” (ex. Megan Fox). And I get the sentiment of unnecessary plastic surgery, but the thing is, _all_ beautifying surgery (not for medical reasons) is unnecessary, no matter how naturally someone conforms to conventional beauty standards. It’s still reinforcing harsh beauty standards when someone implies that plastic surgery is unnecessary for pretty people, thereby unintentionally saying it’s necessary for others. We should all strive to dismantle beauty standards and acknowledge the, as long as a body functions, there’s no necessity for plastic surgery beyond societal standards and unfair beauty expectations.

I don’t think plastic surgery is inherently “bad”, but I think we have normalised it to the point it’s “expected”. What’s worse is that not everyone has the money for plastic surgery. Now hear me out: I know some people will say “then don’t”, I agree. Just don’t. We can’t hate on people just for having money to look better. But the normalisation of it is pretty dangerous. It sets almost unachievable/rare standards of beauty (fox eyes, small European noses, thick lips) and the reality is that there is this expectation that only the rich can afford it (and before anyone argues that plastic surgery isn’t exactly “expensive”, it isn’t exactly cheap either. Also, what’s cheap to an American may not be cheap to someone from another country. Problem is because of the internet, our beauty standards are slowly becoming one). I also feel, while not directly related to plastic surgery per se, that the normalisation of plastic surgery and these “rare” beauty standards feed into the whole fetish for racially ambiguous beauty. Which… is already a problem.

I personally think that we live in a very judgemental society where somebody can quickly feel like they are not good enough or pretty enough. But when you try to fix it you are called fake and your reputation can tank. This is especially true for celebrities because their looks are constantly critiqued and nowadays it seems like you need to be attractive to be famous instead of talented (majority of famous tiktokkers). Thus people get plastic surgery to make it in the industry, but they can't come out and say they have had things done because that would harm their brand. It would get harder for them to get jobs because there would be more hate from the public because they are not 'real'.

Ma'am, celebrities and influential people MUST declare their procedures because their standard affects the worldwide standard of beauty. It is false for us to claim that our collective consciousness is not controlled by celebrities and influential people. They must declare so that we know and understand that they're not born perfect, they have plastic surgery, and that we are enough as we are.

I agree and PS is just an excuse for people to not care about themselves. It's called low self esteem not a glow up. Go to a damn psychologists if you got over 5K to spend on your nose. If you noticed what comments the creator likes they're all echoing her beliefs like...way to think critically

I kinda see why Bella felt the need to change her entire appearance through surgery. She obviously felt that, in comparison to Gigi, she fell short, considering how Yolanda seemed to favor Gigi. I get the jealousy part, although it might seem absurd to some (bc sisterly love and yadda yadda). I myself have 4 gorgeous sisters and I'm the smallest, so I've felt the pressure to emulate them since I was in my pre teens. I do get cosmetic work done, invasive and non invasive, pretty often (started when I was 16). I don't wanna blame the society, but sisterly rivalry is pretty common and very much real.

The strange thing is, as much as I love the idea of plastic surgery, and letting others do what they want to feel confident, I’m still reluctant to the whole plastic surgery aspect still. Plastic surgery, I believe is a great self-esteem booster. However, at the same time beauty standards change all the time, so what is considered beautiful today will not exactly be considered beautiful tomorrow. So instead of chasing after that “particular” feature, it is best to find other ways in being confident in yourself and bringing up self esteem.

Yep really annoying that celebrities lie about plastic surgery. It just sets unrealistic beauty standards for rest of us that can’t afford surgery and thinks that the way celebrities look is natural

13:40 You so right about "it's about having connections" with it comes to jobs, work, and/or opportunities. I wouldn't have gotten by first job at McDonald's if it wasn't for one of my family members being s manager there.
