Inside the Most Dangerous Region in Senegal 🇸🇳

Today we're venturing to Casamance, the most dangerous region in Senegal. Casamance is isolated from the rest of Senegal both geographically and in terms of culture. This isolation prompted the start of one of the longest conflicts in Africa, between the government and rebel groups.
But this isn't all Casamance is famous for. The area is home to one of the most unique cultures in Senegal, the Jola people. The Jola community are renowned for their secrecy but today I am gaining exclusive access not only with Jola villages but the most important Jola figure in the world.
But getting there will be far from easy due to the ongoing conflict...

There's no danger in Casamance, especially for toubabs. Love the frequent filmed toilet stops, no bush stops, such a lady and so English with pleasantries and thank you's. Good onya Ella.

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts! The situation in Casamance has indeed improved since my visit, which is absolutely great as I'd definitely recommend it. Such a beautiful part of the world! Thanks for your lovely comment!

Such a beautiful comment from an open colonizer. Well if they don't fight those that intend to remove them and their culture from the earth then mote it be. I used to care but when I see comments like this and experience the love people have for those who are openly researching them for personal gain, well how can anyone care. I look forward to seeing what the Roman empire does with Africa because it is clearly up to business as usual. Lol it so funny to me that they have not realized yet that they send their women in to soothe the natives in any situation. Again, if people are not going to be aware, who can care. Happy colonizing. I guess 🤨

I am sorry you got there just when the operation was underway. I'd say Casamance is one of the safest regions in West Africa. I travel there all the time, and it's a lot safer than Dakar, and my hometown Stockholm for that matter. Advising against visiting Casamance is crazy. Nothing has really happened there for several years, except for this particular event where the government decided to crush the rebels once and for all. Please change the title, it's not dangerous to go to Casamance.

This title is fatra. It's literally like saying my continent and the countries within are dangerous. But what you were shown was nice and educational. Let's not put the narrative out to scare people away from my continent.

Hi Ella, great vlog! I went to Casamance in 2012, so it brings back good memories for me as well as helping me learn more about it. The advice not to go was much the same back then, but it turned out just fine! Nice to see Senegal and The Gambia getting some good coverage on your channel :)

Hello again Ella. I've been busy for a while and I haven't had much time to enjoy your videos. I have seen that you have uploaded new videos and I have looked for a place to see them. I congratulate you and your boyfriend for this video series in Senegal. You are very brave to go to a place in conflict, and where a foreigner can become an important objective so that one of the parties can be attended to in their requests. I honestly would not risk taking a trip like this. By the way, also in the Canary Islands (specifically on the island of La Gomera) the palm tree is used to obtain, not a wine as I have seen in your video, but a very sweet honey that is used to sweeten various desserts. Another curious thing is that the wrestling that they comment on in your video is a traditional fight like the Canarian wrestling. And there have been meetings of both fights between Senegal and the Canary Islands. Looking forward to seeing your next video and leaving my comment. I'm still waiting for you to teach you how to make paella. 🥘 Kisses and greetings.😘👋👋

It's great to hear from you again Ignacio! I hope you have been doing well. I'm really pleased that you enjoyed my Senegal series. I had a lot of fun visiting Senegal and putting these videos together. That's very interesting about the sweet honey from the palm trees. I think I had a similar honey in Sri Lanka - they told me they got it from palm trees. I didn't know the Canary Islands were keen wrestlers! That's so interesting - thanks for sharing! All the best to you as well 😊

Wow so you're promoting travel to Senegal yet it is dangerous? I'm the offspring of a Senegalese Manlinke female. The Jola are NOT dangerous. "No matter how long a log floats in a river is will never be a Crocodile" ~ Jola proverb.
