Here's your first few ride look at the InsideRide KICKR E-Flex Motion System (or, the FLOATR as I call it). This two-piece system supports any Wahoo KICKR (but not the CORE/SNAP) and allows forward/back movement, as well as tilting of the frame. Further, it allows the front handlebars to rotate.
I show how it all works with multiple camera angles, as well as the pros and cons of the system. The platform is set start shipping this month and costs $399USD, making it a pretty solid deal compared to other platforms on the market.

An added benefit is that using this would diminish carbon fiber fatigue. When I’m using my Kickr I’m amazed at how much stress I’m putting the chain stays and seat stays through on big efforts. Energy that would otherwise be distributed to the wheels or other areas are instead exerted on those areas and over time it must take its toll.

For me, that's a good price point. Hopefully something will come along (from Wahoo?) that'll also work with the Kickr Climb (and Core).

@@jimlombardo9046 I forgot I posted this. Well here's my impression .. Mine was 450.00 + 30$ shipping. It can be a bit tippy. I lock the front end down for when I mount the bike. Getting off is easier it seems. I like the forward/aft motion. I'm not much of a sprinter but it seems standing is when you get the action of back and forth. It hasn't seemed to help with any of my sore spots on the saddle. It's a different type of feeling on the bike, but not much. If I had tried it out in the store first I probably would not have bought it. But it's ok..I'll keep it

Why not use a normal wheel on a plank(for rising) without a wheelblock instead of the front mount ?

They show it working with the core as well. Guessing they refined the design or something to work with both.

And fail - "this only works on this one trainer". I get that they may expand based on sales... but the Kickr Core opened so many doors and this rig's price point seems to suite Core riders. Ray - not sure if a fair comparison - but how is 'road feel' on this vs the Climb? I hit the LIKE based on the camera fail alone!! good review as always.

One would think you could just get some metal tubing in bolt it one to widen the stance. You shouldn’t have to but it would work to improve the stability

When I first got my KICKR CORE getting out of the saddle felt very unnatural and the front wheel on a big phone book probably didn’t help. Couldn’t ride for longer than an hour or two though. Keen to get another trainer again now I’ve seen this.

Does the use of tri shoes limit you from having a sock game? 😂 while I don’t personally see the value in this much tech for an indoor trainer, I can see why a zwift enthusiast would want one of these, I can also see wahoo wanting to own that tech or provide the features of 3-axis movement in their kickr range, I’d be surprised if they didn’t do something a little more integrated in their next gen product.

Per the manual, you had the front mount backward. Instead of "U" position, it should be "n" position. The tighten knob should be in front of fork looking down from handlebar.

They currently can handle 12mm x 100mm thru axle forks (along with the 9mm x 100m quick release).

I was surprised to see how narrow the back unit was. Seemed to be even more narrow than the Kickr's legs when spread. Any idea if they are going to make a version that will work with the Climb? BTW, thanks for turning off the traffic light.

I haven’t seen any indication of a CLIMB variant. As one person pointed out in the comments section of my written post, the front fork stand controls exactly how much rotation is permitted, which in turn controls the tilt at the back. If you lack control of the front rotation, it may result in flipping things...as I nearly demonstrated in the video.

@@Dcrainmaker Yeah, they would have to have a cup like mounting point for the base of the climb to sit in to allow / control the rotation and tilt of the Climb. Not sure how that would work mechanically. BTW, HumbleTriathlete says "Hi".

@@Dcrainmaker Yeah, I was thinking of a cup kind of thing the base of the Climb to sit in to hold it securely. It would allow the Climb to tilt up and down while the existing controls the yawing of the Climb/fork. I don't know how the the tilt wouldn't become a splay as the elevation of the Climb of the could just force the rear unit backwards. Neat concept if the could make it work. BTW, HumbleTriathlete says "Hi".

Ray--In your estimation, will this introduce enough "left-to-right" and "front-to-back" to address the "I love the ease/convenience of my turbo trainer but...the degree to which it keeps me in the same position decreases my time on bike"? challenge?

100% definitely. I don’t think it’s awesome for sprints, but it’s super solid for adding in light movement.

Was going to order for Xmas, but see the E-Flex is currently out of stock. When querying about when it would be back in stock, I asked InsideRide if they had addressed the various issues you had illuminated in your review and their response was, "Yes, we addressed those issues last January. We are all good now." Have you checked one out lately (and if so, is this true? Have they made any changes?)? Any follow-up on the E-Flex by Ray or users would be much appreciated.

All that would have to be done is make the base a bit wider, if it had the same footprint or just a bit larger that the KICK has with the legs folded out, it would be good to go.

Agree this looks really compelling at this price. Maybe more compelling than the Kickr bike as it can be steered and adds rocker motion.

Hey Ray, could you get on easier if you straddle the bike first? I never, ever get on my bike on the trainer the way you and Lama do. I think it stresses the frame more than need be. Yes, I know, prolly not enough to cause any damage, but then my "trainer bike" that stays on the trainer 365 days a year is an old Trek 2100. The one with the carbon fiber tubes glued into aluminum lugs...

When riding a bike, ALWAYS wear your helmet. You never know ... I can imagine going to get stitches on the head and with a broken arm, telling the doctor at the ER : "Well, I was riding inside on my trainer, then the camera fell from the ceiling hit my head and I fell sideways from the bike ..."

It seems that you put the front piece in the wrong direction... Don't you ? On the pict of their web site it's in the opposite direction, but may be it doesn't matter ?

Unfortunately not. It doesn’t have any viable way to mount it. I mean, sure, with a welding torch you could do it...but you’d be starting off at like 15% incline!

@@charlesmansplaining I actually emailed the company about it and got a statement from them. They said they looked into it, but due to the Neo's wing'd feet design, that it made it more difficult, so instead they went for the larger userbase that uses these Kickr's, which also made it much easier to design.

The underlying issue with all these contraptions is the lack of gyroscopic effect. That's what gives the bicycle is unique feel out on the road.

Wahoo will probably soon introduce the Showr, to simulate rain inside. Immersion at its best ! Also comming up, the Wankr. An app. that simulate a driver screaming and honking at you.

Kickr bike looks amazing but way out of my price range, surprised they didn't put side to side roll on it as well as the ascent/descent but I guess it would have to have large legs so you wouldn't tip over. Imagine that with a vr headset wow.

Umm...I was explaining why on this particular setup you actually have to cross reach to avoid flipping it. As for dual feet on floor, no triathlete need do that, we can even mount the bike mid-air. ;)
