This is sort of a how-to video on how to put a new radio and speakers in your car. I re-wired the speakers, made custom speaker adapters and door panels, and did electrical tests on the radio wiring.

I like how you just casually tear the entire car down and replace all of the wiring lol. And that door work. Dude, you are amazing!

Hey, my 92 camry looks almost identical, but the "pocket" below the radio is "cast" and as such the entire thing is a solid piece I also didn't have any metal brackets to attach to my new 2 din radio and screw in, what do?
@realmackle Жыл бұрын
So if you're fine with the speakers, dont bother with the doors?

Don't have to remove all the seats to route the cables. The MDF mod for the front speakers very professional, looked like it came off a CNC machine.

Thanks! MDF is pretty great to work with.

Why can't I use the harness that came out of the original car? Going to install a single din.

My Camry 96 xle v6 has multiple harness it runs to the amp under the passanger seat. How to I work around that. I have 3 empty clips
@kimchee941123 жыл бұрын
It was nice at the time but don't think the factory amp is that clean anymore. I bypass the factory amp and rewire all the speakers to the harness that came with the head unit. Lots of soldering, make sure all the speakers are in phase. Don’t have to do that if you're keeping the factory amp, but you need to get an adapter specifically for you head unit. Crutchfield should be able to provide you the hardware.

Dear @Lab Coat Paul, What installation kit did you use? I am trying to use a Scosche one I got from Walmart that claims to fit my 1996 camry, but none of the screw holes line up. Also, do you have a wiring diagram for the old stereo connector wiring harness? The ones that I find on the internet do not have the colors that are in my actual car. Thank you, James Reed
@jamesreed76803 жыл бұрын
My speakers work, but I don't have the adapter that you have in the video, I just have the wires and the original connector has been cut off.

Sweet. Been looking how exactly to test for bad ground since my existing radio keeps dropping out randomly, sometimes not turning back on for a whole day. So... if I find that something isn't grounded right, then what do I do?
@LabCoatPaul3 жыл бұрын
You can always add a ground to something, or fix the ground. Make sure to clean paint and rust off grounding surfaces and have tight connections.

@@LabCoatPaul Thanks bud. My meter is a crap one I got from family years back and never used. I think the leads are faulty, but I'd be better off just buying a new unit instead of just replacing the leads. I did manage to move them around enough to test my wires and the juice is going where it's supposed to go and not going where it isn't. But I can't get any good tests under the hood directly to the battery. My head is a Pioneer that was quite pricey 15 or more years ago, and it's made it into 3 cars now. 2 of those cars had "sound systems" installed by friends that didn't really know what they were doing. There's an old CD stuck in there too and the CD player doesn't work anymore. I took a gamble that the problem is the head and ordered a new one that will play off of USB or SD along with a new wiring harness kit. If it still doesn't work, I'm going to get myself a proper multimeter and figure it out. I just fixed up this car and got it running better than it has in ages. I've been driving it without any stereo at all for around 5 years now. Thanks for the video. :)
@thedude52953 жыл бұрын
Hey bud. Update. Installed the new head unit and everything is great. I even can load up MP3 on it now. No need to do anything with the grounds. Glad I tried out a stereo first. I wouldn't have if they were still as pricey as they were in the early 2000's, but it's amazing what you can get for $50 on Amazon today. This thing I got probably isn't going to live as long as the rest of the car, but at least if I need to replace it I won't feel bad spending more money next time when I know it will work. Thanks again for the video. I still learned something. :)

how did you run speaker wire to the door speakers? im pretty sure that the wires in my door harness are all frayed because my speaker would cut out when the door was open and now it doesnt work at all anymore. I need to figure out a way to get in the door harness but i cant seem to get past the rubber protecting thing.
@LabCoatPaul3 жыл бұрын
Bend a metal coat hanger and feed it through the rubber wiring boot to the door. Tape the new speaker wire to the end of the coat hanger.

If I'm putting in a double din ,do I just leave the tray off and that's all I have to do and it will work?

Yes. It will fit a double DIN just fine.

Car stereo installation is very similar for most cars. Use the vehicle fit guide on www.sonicelectronix.com/ to find out what size speakers you need. It's pretty accurate, but you should still look at the speakers in your car to see if the website is correct.

Puts nice MB Quarts but installs a shitty head unit. Could’ve installed a nice $200 double din kenwood or pioneer. They make nice, easy connect wiring harnesses for a wide range of Toyota years.
@LabCoatPaul4 жыл бұрын
I installed Kenwood's cheapest multimedia player. Yes, it's kind of shitty, but better than a JVC or Sony deck. A $200 double DIN isn't going to be all that great either.
@rairadrai4 жыл бұрын
Paul Shpakov Hey guy, have you ever heard of Crutchfield?? JVC & kenwood are the same company. All those brands you mentioned make premium head units, including Sony. Do some research and set a max price filter of $200 and filter it so that only Sony, kenwood and jvc show up. Actually, back in 2002 I installed an over the top Sony head unit in my ‘92 Camry V6. Back then it cost $600. The d/a converter and other internals rival sound systems even now. 13 band EQ, front & rear high pass & low pass crossovers. Separate gold plated 5V sub out. Do not say Sony makes bad systems. The only tech that Sony was missing in 2002 was Bluetooth & Apple CarPlay but I got around the Bluetooth part by using an aux cable. It had direct iPod connection and XM connection IN 2002.

@@rairadrai Ok, my bad. I'm sure Sony has nice stereos. I've seen a couple lower end ones in the past and wasn't impressed. At the moment, my favorite is the Kenwood KMM-BT325U. It sounds nice, and has adjustable crossover frequency, slope, and gain. That's pretty sweet for a $90 radio.
@kimchee941123 жыл бұрын
@@rairadrai Just installed a new Sony, bluetooth is shitty. Hard to paired, once paired it disconnects within minutes. Check out the comments on KZfaq regarding Sony bluetooth.
