Installing A Water Separator For An Outboard Motor On A Sailboat (Episode 46)

Hi everyone, my name is Vasil and I am restoring my 1974 Columbia 45 sailboat. In this episode I will be installing a water separator on the boat. A water separator separates any accumulated water from the gas or diesel mixture before it has a chance to enter an engines fuel system.
Ethanol is a bio fuel derived from corn. This bio fuel has been mixed into regular gasoline since the mid 2000's in the United States. One of the problems with ethanol mixed fuels is that they break down rather quickly as compared to pure petroleum based fuels. A side affect of ethanol breakdown is the accumulation of water inside of the gas tank. As ethanol degrades, it absorbs its own weight in water. This can cause issues for any engine.

I enjoyed the ethanol bit and learned a few things that I didn't know. Thanks! It might help to try diagramming or sketching (even if it's terrible!) some of the more complex things to help people get a visual of what's going where when you're explaining how various systems work. I've been watching from the beginning and look forward to what's next!

Thank you for reaching out and checking on me! I am doing well, uploading the next video as we speak. The "hurricane" or, "apocalypse" as was predicted by the news turned out to be a complete farse! All we got was a little bit of drizzle and 29 mph winds... I prepped for almost two days, expecting the worse.

Be careful mate some of those filters hold the 2 stroke oil not just water.
