Hi everyone! My name is Vasil and I am living on and restoring this 1974 Columbia 45 sailboat. In this episode I am installing two solar panels on the upper deck of the boat. It's finally time to get these two panels sitting in a place that isn't constantly in my way. Join me as I go over the installation process.

Nicely done. Sometimes you have to improvise. That should provide you with a nice supply of power. Great video!

Thank you Marty! Those two panels should do good for a couple of months, I am in San Diego and there is plenty of sun.

Really enjoying the videos. Just remember keep the water on the outside and necessity is the mother of desperation ;)

Thanks Mike! If that water starts to make its way in I’m in a world of hurt! I need to put in the bilge pumps ASAP!

That worked very well. Necessity is the mother of invention. I like the way you problem-solve and reuse old stuff. I'd like to know what your MUST DO projects are and the priorities of those projects. Thanks

Cameron, the MUST DO stuff is replacing all of the seacocks and redoing the keel bolts. It makes me very uneasy thinking about the condition of both of those things. I’m really not even sure how well the keel is hanging on at the moment, those bolts are in terrible shape. My ballast is 10k pounds… hanging on by 10 RUSTY bolts. I’m booking a dry dock session ASAP. Right now the waiting list is about 3 months long. Until I get to the dry dock the projects will likely be temporary in nature. Stay tuned, once I get the boat out of the water I’ll be able to make a serious dent in all of the absolutely necessary projects.

Nice to get those panels out of the way. Can't wait to see your to-do list. What is your first to finish projected permanent project?
@ambiguousglobetrotter

Thanks Brian! The permanent projects will begin once the boat has been pulled out of the water. I’m jumping on the waiting list for a local do-it-yourself place. There will be plenty of work once it’s out of the water: -Removing the diesel motor -taking out the mast -replacing every single seacock -replacing the keel bolts -exterior fiberglass repair -bottom paint -redoing the windows in the main saloon The list will most definitely grow as I think of more stuff. Essentials I want to make sure the boat will stay afloat begin any permanent projects.

Tracing the lines is important. Not knowing where the mast or jib halyard runs is bad news after you discover that you moved a "useless" line. I think it's a servicable temp mount though.

Embarrassing on my end… this boat is in no condition to learn how to sail just yet.

@@ambiguousglobetrotter not my point at all. My observation is observation. I'm always the bad guy for observing. You don't see your lines?

I've been hesitant till this point to trace much of the lines that have to do with the sails. I was under the impression that I will be replacing all of them, and upgrading as much as I can. My neighbor has showed me around my boat for more clarification. Your observation is much appreciated, I need all the help I can get right now.

Great advice! Anything to keep those things off this boat! I need to declare all out war on these damn seagulls! Let's see if amazon has any rubber snakes lol.
