Күн бұрын

In this ep we’re mechanically finishing the NA + Turbo Barra Conversion for BA/BF Falcons by fitting an intercooler, first stock and then an eBay larger intercooler, before taking it for it’s first drive with BOOST!
Along the way we enjoy plenty of turbo noises including our first little dose and flutter! We recap some mistakes from last episode including the oil drain, make some potential new ones relocating the power steering and trans cooler and show the complete turbo intake piping needed for a stock turbo conversion in your BA/BF Falcon.
Hope you enjoy, if you did and would like to support our little battler channel grow please consider liking, sharing with a mate and subscribe to keep up to date as videos come out!

Nice work mate. I've gone down the diff, brakes, suspension and manual conversion path. I'll run out of funds by the time the manual is in it, but have a good platform for future mods. And no pesky trans cooler to contend with. The more I deal with workshops, the more I am convinced of the value of DIY. Always some weird new problem when it comes back if / when I decide to outsource work. I got my diff builder to install 3.9s in with a torque lock LSD using an M80 (BF III) housing. Still bedding in the new gears, but it's woken up a bit despite the auto, the speedo is still accurate (ish), the intermittent ABS light has stayed off, the factory diff whine is gone and the dreaded single spinner is thankfully long gone. Today I'm making some more progress on fixing up the melted rear bumper onto exhaust tip situation. Keep up the good work Browney : )
@BrowneysGarage
@BrowneysGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Manual or good gearing would have woken this up a lot when it was NA, both should be even betterer! I feel much the same about DIY, that or the random damage that unfortunately can happen sometimes - things happen I just wish their were more honest people with some pride in their work but get that that costs proper money too. Good luck fixing the melty bumper, I hate messing with exhaust hangers! And thanks for your ongoing support mate.

another good one Brownie. if you want to build boost on the line you need to pull the handbrake/ e brake on hard. my turbo BA will spin the wheels with just the footbrake and build almost zero boost. with handbrake on I can easily build 5psi then simply drop the brake and floor it. my car with pretty much identical mods best so far 12.6 @ 115mph so something for you to aim for.
@BrowneysGarage
@BrowneysGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Could be a problem - hand brake is stretched to buggery and hanging on by a thread on one side I believe. Hmm we’ll see whether I can get in to address that soon or not. Thanks for the heads up Geoff, killer times there 👍

Those flares will eventually cut into the hydraulic hose mate , 2 options just go down to a hydraulic hose place and get them to make you the steel one properly, another trick is to remote mount an electric power steer motor from a Volvo or astra , it needs 40 amp power and ground and a switch wire to ignition . Allows you to completely remove the old power steering pump and fit an idle pulley in the old position. More space A lot of drifters do this mod keeps the power steering system cooler .

Just a question mate have you installed a one way valve to to PCV valve to prevent positive manifold pressure entering the crankcase when the turbo is producing boost
@BrowneysGarage
@BrowneysGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Fair question, I believe they normally already have a ball valve and function this way factory. But also it feeds back into the intake before the turbo so doesn't see any positive pressure other than from the crankcase.
@BluesShed
@BluesShed 2 жыл бұрын
@@BrowneysGarage I recently did a full rebuild of my wife's territory turbo and noticed the check valve in the line to the pvc valve Additionally the reason I had to rebuild the engine was because the boost control soleniod was blocked with stale oil being fed from the forward crankcase vent which caused an overboost and massive backfire I now run a catch can from the forward crankcase vent to the catch can and back to the inlet tube prior the turbo intake which clearly has reduced oil feed back into the inlet tube The point here is that the check valve from the manifold caused all the crankcase vent to escape from the forward line when the engine is on boost hence excess oil feeds into the inlet tube to the turbo Be wary of this because a rebuild of a barra is really expensive

Mate that oil return line isn't going to work for long. Trust me I've been through all of this saga. The rubber will just split and you'll be leaking again in no time. The only proper long term solution is an AN setup with steel braided hose. I highly suggest sorting this soon because once you get some heat through the rubber hose it will be done again.

@@BrowneysGarage thats what sellers do, it costs them to take down and put up new ads, so they just increase the price to unrealistic amounts when out of stock. Once they have stock down, price will be normal.

I'm trying to get my na-t turned atm and the tuner told me that they can't tune it without that boost pressure sensor is there like a certain threshold of boost before you actually need it or what?

Are they referring to the one in the metal under battery tray intercooler pipe, or the one in the intake manifold? Intake manifold one will need to be upgraded to read anything above 1-2psi I believe, the one in the intercooler piping should be fine left not wired.

@@BrowneysGarage they were referring to the one on the metal underbattery intercooler pipe which is why I was confused I might just have to go to a different tuner.

This question is totally off topic but is your paint job a custom job or factory?

Factory Envy green but shows up quite different sometimes in different lights and cameras… oh and probably some slightly dodgy not factory repairs before I got but nothing special 👍

Me too mate, being able to paint parts or a car here is on the goals list - might be one I hate after one job but would be great to say I did it. Thanks mate
