This is a fantastic tutorial. My first ever i-device repair and it went so smoothly, only took me an hour. Many thanks! Note to anyone attempting this, leave the factory speaker because the ones that come on some replacement parts are (at least in my case) awful, i had to take mine apart again and put in the original one. Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the video. It's very clear! I didn't have a new prox. sensor so instead I put a tiny folded (about 4 times) piece of paper just under the power button. It worked!! The button doesn't click but it makes enough contact (I need to push a little harder than normal). Thanks for showing the disassembly.

@Randy Sarun If it runs right down the center then that is most likely caused by the Apple not displaying properly during start up if. I would try re-seating the cables but it's possible that your screen or LCD flex cable was damaged.

Thank you very much for the video! Unfortunately, I have absolutely the same problem as Randy. I tried to reseat the cables 3 times and now I'm worried if the LCD flex cable could be damaged. What could I do to test it, whether it is ok or damaged and what sould I do if the cable is damaged? with kind regards Martin
@GoCellPhoneRepair
@GoCellPhoneRepair 10 жыл бұрын
Martin Drobek If the cable is damaged you will have to replace your screen unfortunately. In this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gMl6iJZnvd7do58.html I demonstrate how to use a test cable and see if you have a problem with your existing one before doing a full installation. If you have access to another 4 or 4S (the screens will plug in to test but are different for installing) you can temporarily connect it and see if your screen is actually the problem or not.

Similar but different. The speakerphone mic is in line on the flex for the 4 and it's tricky to get out without tearing the headset jack flex cable if I remember correctly. Also the proximity sensor does not route over the earpiece but underneath instead. I'll make another video next time I do one.

hey, just watched the video, its very informative and helpful. But after putting my phone back together, I got a 601 physical nand block offset 1. Then i disconnected the power button cable and the phone worked again(but not the power button of course). Would you know what I did wrong? Thanks again for the great video.
@GoCellPhoneRepair
@GoCellPhoneRepair 8 жыл бұрын
+Noob2Chicken Most likely the cable was not properly connected or it is defective. I'd try plugging it in again and if the problem repeates youve probably got a bad part. The logic board can cause this also but from what youve described thats probably not the source.

Excellent vid thanks! Just one question, is there a UV filter for the sensor on the 4s? I tried 2 flex cables (same supplier) and can't get the sensor to work, not sure if that's a possible cause.

Saludos y gracias.

I worked out it was the front camera socket! Thanks for the reply though. If you don't mind me asking.. I managed to damage both: The front camera cable, and also the silent volume switch cable. The phone no longer turns on, do you think it's to do with one of these cables? They aren't necessary components though.. technically? Or could I have bugged something else also? I ordered new cables anyway, hoping it's just one of those cables. In a computer for example, you do not necessarily need a soundcard.. so I am just curious if 4S can actually work without some components.
@GoCellPhoneRepair
@GoCellPhoneRepair 6 жыл бұрын
As long as you didn't damage the lock button cable it should still power up. I'd try disconnecting the ones that you think are damaged and connect a power source to see if it boots the phone up.

No it should feel pretty close to the same as when the phone was new. Sometimes the button doesn't get aligned exactly where it should. You might try backing off the screws a bit and moving it around until it feels more comfortable.

Is taking out the logic board really necessary?
@GoCellPhoneRepair
@GoCellPhoneRepair 10 жыл бұрын
For replacement absolutely. Until the board comes out the part is not accessible. Sometimes you can adjust the power button but this is rare and does not help the proximity sensor. If the black dot is missing or you can't click the button when exposed then you have to replace the entire flex.

Hey guys you seem to know your stuff, is it possible to replace my android's power switch with a DPDT momentary switch by simply running and soldering wire from the DPDT momentary switch to the solder pads in place of the stock power switch on the phone's PCB? @GoCellPhoneRepair

Hard to say for sure but I would start by disconnecting the new part and see if it does the same thing. Unplug the battery first of course and you can plug the phone into a power supply to turn it on once the power button flex is disconnected. If that works you probably have a defective part. Otherwise that can also indicate a software problem. This sometimes happens after the battery has been disconnected especially if your device is jailbroken.

Similar but a little bit different as far as the way the cable is situated near the earpiece. Easier in that respect but it includes the secondary mic on the iphone 4 flex cable which is kind of a pain to install. I will make a video for the 4 as soon as I get a chance.

Just a thought, I couldn't do all that fixing in a million years. I was quoted £160 to fix power button by Apple store. Only just out of warranty. Or they would give me £200 for it if I bought a new £600 phone!!! Why are iPhones so rubbish that they need all of that after being very lightly handled - in the big scheme of things? Dodgy product trading on its name, which I think will soon be replaced by a more reliable one.
@GoCellPhoneRepair
@GoCellPhoneRepair 10 жыл бұрын
Wow that sounds like a bit much. We do them here for $79-most of that being the labor fee as there is considerable time involved. As for the big scheme of things.-understanding their design flaw we would hope that Apple decides to create a modular lock button rather than attaching it to the main flex cable or at least build a more durable switch. Then again this has been a problem since the iPhone 4 and continued up until the current model so I am skeptical about that idea.
