Being embarrassed would imply that it had the potential to hold any standards in the first place. That is nearly impossible for fake reality tv. Pathetic would have been a better choice.

You have to wonder- what happens to these kids? They're all about twelve or so here, and when you look at them, there's nothing behind those eyes. They don't talk, or smile, or anything- they do what they're told and try not to get screamed at by that psychotic hair beast and that's it. If they've all been doing this since they were little you have to assume this is ingrained behavior. What are they going to be like at sixteen? Or eighteen? Will they have any self esteem at all? Will they have panic attacks over making a mistake in any aspect of their lives? You cannot raise kids like this!

I agree it's wrong but you are really over thinking it. I had very similar dance training age 3-16 and I am completely fine. I've always been shy but I think dancing gave me an outlook despite the screaming and emotional 'abuse' if you call it that that I endured. It isn't right and there should be boundaries, but I really think if you watched the show properly u would see how normal the girls are. Many of them have grown up now and are not emotionally scarred.

Xavier Rabon Being in dance classes for fun and trying to make a career out of dancing are two very different things. Let's be honest: those kids on Dance Moms are going to grow up with some serious issues. These aren't 18+ kids going off to boot camp. They're still at an impressionable age and being taught that it's okay to yell and scream at people for things that aren't their fault, okay to treat others like they don't exist (ie New/Old Chloe), and okay to berate people in general. A+ there - they'll turn out to be those people everybody hates and never admires because they're wretched, selfish and very, very strange.

I hate it when people yell at dancers if theyr costum fells apart. You don't stop dancing to just put your hat back on. It dosen't work like that you just keep dancing and kick it out of the way then you put it back on if you have time. (I have danced since I was 5 years old and I'm not 17 xP)

Children should be able to enjoy being a kid and not have to succeed where their own parents failed when they themselves were little. And yet, I've seen worse at a little boys' football game. I can't imagine having to earn (earn!) love from my parents by jumping through these absurd hoops set by Jabba the Hutt's own twin sister.
@HamCubes
@HamCubes 8 жыл бұрын
officialmer I'm not sure where you got the idea I perceive children to be anything close to less than. Nowhere did I write anything like "just-a-kid." If the child enjoys dancing and are there by choice, good for them. (Personally I think it's absurd to have this battle-axe abusing and belittling them so strongly for non-ballet). But there's no way all or 'many' of these children are there by choice.

@Inkspeckle

+Breanna May of course they want to be.  That's what their moms have told them since they were little kids "you WANT to do this don't you? you want to be a dancer and make mommy proud?" What child would say no to this? Kids will go to absurd lengths to earn their parent's affection. "If mommy is only happy with me when I dance, I will be the best dancer in the world!" Of course a child can be happy to dance, but this isn't about the dancing primarily. these mothers just want to be able to say "my child is better than yours. Therefore I am the better mom." I mean look at these girls. They're stressed out of their minds and under enormous pressure to be perfect, to the point where they will break out in tears because of some minor mistake that shouldn't be that big of a deal. And who would be surprised? They get verbally abused and belittled constantly. Dancing is their only form of self-validation. That kind of learning environment isn't healthy. Not for adults and certainly not for 12 year olds whose minds are still developing. What these girls are learning is that they're only worth as much as their performance. That love and affection is something they need to "earn". That they're a failure if they're not at their best 24/7. And that's not a lesson any person should be taught.  *That's* why this show is making me angry.

i am a huge fan of the art of dance (probably because i could never do it myself. haha) and i used to love to watch these girls. the amount of talent they had at 6-7-8 years old when this show started several years ago was mind blowing. But the more i watched, the more it became just straight out child abuse. i know a lot of it is faked for the cameras, but you could tell how stressed out and upset and uptight those poor girls were. there was one episode where you could see little Maddie having a full blown, hyperventilitating, ong-i'm-dying-i-can't-breathe panic attack because she was afraid Abby was going to yell at her for messing up some tiny insignificant thing that nobody else even noticed. that was the day i refused to ever watch it again.

Why is it that other people always see kids dancing as weirdly sexual or creepy? I just see kids dancing. I think them seeing it as sexual is kind of them sexualizing children. I guess I just don't do that.

I think it was how little the girls were wearing that made it seem like that. If they were wearing clothing appropriate for their age it might not have seemed as bad.

Hannah Aman Meh I don't see kids as sexual so I guess I don't really care how they're dressed. Sort of like seeing little kids running around the beach naked isn't sexual. I don't see how what clothing they wear matters.
@rmismine

It probably made them uncomfortable because they looked like they were about twelve. Being twelve and starting to fully develop into a woman and being broadcasted like that on television is not the same as a toddler running around naked. Trust me, I know. I'm a fifteen, almost sixteen, year old girl and if they were built like me (big hips, butt, and breasts) you would probably see mine and their point better.

I've never seen an episode of dance moms, but when I was at a convention one of the staff members was talking to me about how they had a dance competition at the convention center and the "dance moms" were there. Apparently at some point one of the girls was complaining about something hurting and their mom or coach shoved them a bottle of pills and told them to shut up and to just take them... I've been in ballet for 10 years and I feel so terrible for these girls. I hope they're doing alright.

as a dancer, I absolutely hate this show. It is not an accurate depiction of the dance world at all, it's putting dancers against eachother in an environment that doesn't even teach classical ballet, or technique. They aren't bad dancers, but they could never reach their full potential without a strong classical core. I would never put my child in a studio like that.

@undeadladybug7723
@undeadladybug7723 8 жыл бұрын
That must be why they show so many of them crying. I don't care if that drama is fabricated or not, all it does is piss people off because of how ridiculous it all is. If people want to watch a show about little girls writhing around on the floor, that's their business. I just feel there's something very, very gross about it.
@Katia-fw1dr
@Katia-fw1dr 8 жыл бұрын
Carolina West calling their talent writhing on the floor is pretty rude, it's mostly dancers and people who appreciate their talent who watch the show. The dance/entertainment industry is tough so there's gunna be tears ...I agree they don't need so much drama and the teacher is rude but I dunno mb I'm just used to it so don't see a problem . Plus the kids can leave if they want , but a lot of joy comes from dancing and performing that people who aren't dancers just don't understand.

I'm sorry, but why are all these men so incredibly handsome? This might sound as if I'm objectifying them, but I swear to God there were times in which I was absolutely focused more on their looks and what they were saying (accents) rather than the whole concept of the video. Ireland be doing their men very well.

So, this dance studio is near my hometown, and I've talked to mothers who's kids dance in these competitions (though not necessarily with Abby Lee): - Yes, she is that mean. - Her dance school is actually bigger than just the girls on the show, but she ignores them a great deal in favor of those on the show, so a lot of parents switched schooled. - most of the trash-talking the mothers do is put on for TV - Some parents/dance schools won't even take their kids to the competitions because all of the cameras and stuff for the show stress them out to badly.
