I’ve been speculating recently in BTAS “I am the Night”, when batman says “A weary body can be dealt with, but a weary spirit, that's something else”, it was a reference to Proverbs 18:14

God comes before all. Batman in my opinion is justified for the circumstances he’s in. the fact he refuses to take human life reflects how God is in him and what he stands for. like he once said, “Vengeance won’t change the past… people need Hope” and that’s what he is to the good people of Gotham, not just a symbol of Fear, but of Hope 🦇

I think the only problem is that Batman, by default, is an unbeliever. Every piece of media where’s he’s asked if he believes in God, the answer is no. However, in a universe in which various types of deities are demonstrably real, he has no choice but to ultimately believe in them.
@Jeandiel_LJD
@Jeandiel_LJD Ай бұрын
@@peanutmurgler i think that’s a misconception. he prayed to God the night his parents were murdered, making a promise to God and their souls that he would one day make things right. yes he doesn’t practice any religion but he’s not an Atheist. he knows that if he takes someone’s life, his soul is damned.

I am a Christian, Batman is my favorite superhero(and maybe fictional character period), and I have pondered this question too. Your analysis was very well done for a short video. I think its possible that the answer varies depending on which interpretation of Batman we are talking about, not too mention at what point in his mission. But I think its important to realize that neither Batman nor any other fictional or real person is Biblical justified without accepting Jesus. We all fall short of God's glory, regardless whether hero, villain, or the more common person. Also, regarding Batman working outside the authorities, which admittedly he does to some extent, lets keep in mind that most interpretations dont do that completely. For one, Batman is usually on good terms with the Police Commissioner and they consult with one another regularly. Heck, the police often have a means that he's provided to contact him if need be. And as for beating people badly despite the no kill rule, he usually only does that if there isnt much way around it. He usually doesnt do it just to torture people or something.

First video I watch, I arrived here by a recommendation from KZfaq, maybe because I'm a Christian and Batman is my favorite hero lmao. But really, the way of life that Batman leads cannot be completely consistent with what the Bible tells us, he kind of lives it in a divided way. In fact, as Bruce Wayne uses his money to finance and help the city, one of these acts is to carry out charitable actions, always contributing to the improvement of hospitals, orphanages, shelters and other institutions in Gotham. Which is a very Christian thing to do. In general, Batman is a human just like us, subject to mistakes and the constant influence of sin, his greatest temptation is precisely that of revenge and the rule of ''not killing''. He himself admits that every day is a struggle against this feelings (Joker being the most iconic character to put this resolve into a test) so as not to lose himself in the abyss if he gives in to these temptations. Anyways, sorry for the bad english, my main language is portuguese (from Brazil). I really enjoyed your content bro! You gained a new subscriber, may God bless you!

I'm a Christian and a Bat-stan, just so my biases are up front. Without writing a KZfaq essay, he is in line with scripture while also being fundamentally flawed as we all are. His primary role and skill is that of a detective (something often forgotten in place of action) and a detective's role is to bring truth to light. He only uses violence when someone is being violent or refuses to surrender when caught. He doesn't kill, and like Daredevil this was once rooted in faith (I believe Bruce is Episcopalian if memory serves) and in the belief that it is his job to bring truth and justice, not judgment. Nothing about use of violence in self-defense or defense of others is contrary to the Old or New Testament, and the fact he equally applies his pursuit of truth and justice to both the government, businesses and powers that be in addition to the average criminal demonstrates equal application. Not to mention prior to modern "writers" I can't recall him ever violating anyone's inalienable (God given) rights. He uses his money to help Gotham, so he even has the charitable aspect of Christianity in his unmasked persona. In many ways he is the ideal, or Abel, to the total lack and corrupt morality that is Cain, or Joker. Which is why their best stories are a conflict of morality, not of intellect or physical altercation. So to sum it up, yes. As much as any human can be.

When he sees outside of the order he turns his back on it shattering his sword and refusing to ever take a human life. He says “I was promised to be the instrument of god, not the tool of man.” We don’t see him too often after but it’s implied that he has never and will never kill. Kinda wholesome ending.

Evil as in going against the Word of Elohim’s (“God”)? Correct, then you don’t listen to that order they gave. Obey Yahuah rather than man (Acts 5:29). Otherwise, you are to obey them. Don’t you know there were evil leaders in place when Paul wrote the book of Romans? No government is good, almost all leaders are against Yahuah. You are still to pray for them (1 Timothy 2:1-2) so that we may have peace. Don’t wanna fear the government? Keep YAH’s commands.

Batman isn't (usually) doing what he's doing to avenge petty slights against himself. Which negates the first point. There's a difference between taking petty vengeance on tormentors and not trusting God to deal with taunts, versus doing nothing in the face of crime. Saying he's helping the oppressed by showing a clip of him rationalizing a lie also makes for a weak argument. Again, stopping crime and giving in to the urge to slap someone because they insulted you are not categorically equal. So again, that anti-Batman argument falls flat. It specifically says murder, not merely "kill.". As there are times when it's justified. But murdering someone while not in a time of war is what's forbidden. Even if Batman used a gun, in some circumstances, he'd be justified. But the writers won't do that, because then he'd be the Punisher. What is forbidden, look at Far Cry 4. Mohan learned that Ishwari was unfaithful to him, so he shot their daughter dead, so Pagan Min couldn't have an heir. That's what is expressly forbidden. Batman isn't playing that game, unless Zack Snyder controls the writing room. Then, he's plotting to assassinate Superman, just because the battle against Zod was creepy and caused a lot of property damage. Submitting to authorities applies to when they're enforcing what is of God. When they act outside that, they are no longer fulfilling their responsibilities unto the Earthly governance, which is accountable to the Heavenly governance. They instead become usurpers of office. And as such, deserve removal. Likewise, the unjust are not to be obeyed when giving unjust commands. Again, Batman is covered here. A better character to apply this debate to would be the Deputy from Far Cry 5. Defends the weak, but also routinely steals from them. Holds the wicked accountable, but selectively. He doesn't call out the Whitetails on their use of torture. Acts when no one else can, but that comes off as lazy writing on Ubisoft's part that so many other characters are so unable to solve their own problems. Kills when necessary, but also often kills when unnecessary. Then again, that's lazy programming on Ubisoft's part, as you're never even given the option to defeat enemies in non-lethal ways. Running away from a few unnecessary fights is the only possible way to show mercy as Dep. Otherwise, the character is written to make that impossible. And the enemies are programmed to be merciless, super persistent killers, that never know when to quit, so that you'll always feel like you have an excuse to blow them up with as much extreme prejudice as you please.

I do not care what anybody says. I love Batman so much because he turned his pain into anger, then, into an incorruptible hope. No matter how hard it gets. No matter how hard his face hits that pavement, he will get up, get up, get up, and defend all that is right. The best part about The Batman is his humanity. He is flawed. The Batman does not always know how to make the right choice, but he always does. The Batman's morals are incorruptible. The Batman can- IS that person that you can always rely on to make the right decision, even when no one is beside him. The Batman is not anyone one being, The Batman is a symbol. The standard was set by Bruce Wayne, sure. But it can be anybody under that mask, so long as you just never quit and give it your all every time. A prime example of this is Injustice Batman. That story portrays so many moments where it seems as if it is all over. Yet, The Batman, just a man under a mask, is willing to fight a war against a tyrannical God for years to come. The Batman is not perfect. The Batman never will be perfect because he embodies what humans can live up. And at our core, humans are flawed sinners. The Batman has set an example we should all strive for every second of every day of every year of our life. Jesus died for our sins, so let us be stronger than our sinful nature. An iron will. Just like The Batman.

Back in Jesus's day, to backhand slap someone was a way to say they were inferior to you. To slap someone open handed was still an insult, but it showed that you viewed them as an equal. Turning the other cheek was a way of saying "if you are going to insult me, do it. But do it as my equal!" Jesus was saying that by turning the other cheek, we are to stand firm, just don't repay evil for evil. The Bible Project has a podcast episode about Turning the Other Cheek if anyone wants to know more.

It's shall not murder. Murder is forbiden killing while killing is permissible or neutral. This is an important distinction as war, sepf defense, defense of others, are not unnecessary and evil. Another reason is that if good people refuse to act, then all of society falls to our brutal nature.

Great video. But I will argue that "thou shalt not kill" is not a commandment. The Hebrew translation is agreed to be "thou shall not murder" by many biblical scholars. Big difference, in my opinion.

I remember in the comics one time when Batman met The Specter who represented The Wrath Of God, it was revealed that Batman is a force of justice & order according to The Specter who is one of the cosmic forces of God in DC. So I guess you can say in a real life sense Batman’s actions are questionable but in the context of DC’s lore he’s another mortal solder of God.

@@johnnotrealname8168 yeah I mean The Presence in DC Comics is God Of All DC and every other lower god or entity is below him. He also specifically is based on The Judaeo-Christian God so he’d be a representation of The Hebrew/Christian God within DC’s entire Verse. Marvel’s Top God is a lot more vague as The One Above All isn’t based on any God specifically as he’s just a concept of God itself and all the other lower gods/entities in Marvel are below him but lots of evidence seems to prove in my book that The Presence & The One Above All are the same being in the fact of how DC & Marvel effect each other and how all their Multiverses are connected within The Infinite Omniverse. They’ve also created beings that can surpass them and have Outerversal/Xenoversal feats.

@dnleo

Don't get vengeance for yourself, for it is God's. But the word doesn't explicitly say how He would take vengeance and deliver justice; it seems first through humans who obey the Law and his words and when that fails, He sends divine intervention (Holy Spirit, "angels" from Heaven HQ). My issue is that Batman doesn't pray on camera, which he shouldn't and he is often pensive, but he never discusses it even with Alfred. When the corrupt go too far, a man standing up for others will seem like vigilantism. See, we don't wait on God to go to court, for we have biblical laws to support and self govern. But when the court fails us, then we wait on the Most Higj Court.
