Superman's original creators are two Jewish brothers and DC comic has always been known for incorporating Judeo-Christian mythos into their story. So generally Superman is a character with plenty biblical references, with most of which being biblical affirming. On the contrary, Marvel comics however, decides not to give biblical mythos any more particular preference over other ones, Marvel has characters who are christians of course but their values are not given any more credits over others. It would be more interesting for you to do a video on a Marvel character or just Marvel universe (the comic one) in general.

the Beyonder was a stand in for the Biblical God
@mostshenanigans12 күн бұрын
@@jd6473 that's not true, the only biblical god in Marvel is called Yahweh, who is a sky father god just like Odin and Zeus, he has a drinking problem and is generally unhappy about his life. The Beyonder, regardless of the original 1980 Beyonder or the Beyonders who showed up later during the event of Secret War 2015 or even Defenders Beyond does not reflect any biblical properties at all. If any they are more a race of anti-bibical gods-like beings who do not care about worship or what humans think of them.

Superman is my favorite superhero, one thing I do want you to know. In one of the comics of Superman, where he travels halfway around the universe to save 1 girl, he gets asked if he believes in God. He says that he believes in what his parents believe is true, which isn't a direct confirmation of his faith but we do know the Kent's are Christian.

I also recommend "Strange Visitor Superman." He builds his strength for billions if not countless years, onto the end of the universe... so he can save one man trapped in an interdenominational rift. The comic ends with him essentially saying he will never leave this man or forsake him. If this isn't a Christ-like depiction of Superman, I don't know what is. Also, there's Cosmic Armor Superman, who's revealed to be the chosen one who's the only one capable of vanquishing Mandrakk, the greatest conceivable threat to existence itself and nihilism incarnate. Superman is revealed to be the chosen one because his story is the only one capable of overcoming Mandrakk's meta-narrative of meaninglessness, emptiness, and the void. This is because Superman is the very embodiment of hope itself. He never gives up. He's always willing to sacrifice himself for righteousness sake. He always triumphs over evil, and good always wins in the end. He's so powerful, that the comic implies he transcends the comic he's a part of, and that he's a part of our story too. (Granted, this take away is taken from many KZfaq videos going over the comic, perhaps one day I'll be able to find a copy and read it front to back for myself). Also, isn't it noteworthy that Superman essentially started off as a Moses like Jewish Messiah when Siegel and Shuster created him (or at least when his story was more fully fleshed out when they retconned him in the Silver Age), but interestingly enough, essentially morphed into a Christ-like Messianic figure as time went on? It's almost as though Jesus is the greatest messianic figure we can logically even conceive of perhaps? If so, maybe it makes sense that the superhero who's supposed to be greater than all others would slowly start to morph into a Christ-like meta-narrative?
@joesalyers14 күн бұрын
Funny story Superman was created by two Jewish men who grew up hearing the Modern Jewish & Ancient Pharisee belief of what the Messiah would be. This differs from Zadokite Priests who believed like Christians do that the messiah would come to die for the worlds sins. The Pharisees on the other hand believe the Messiah will be a King, and ruler of the world with powers no mortal man would have. Sure Superman is embellished compared to the Modern Jewish and Ancient Pharisee beliefs, but just take his Kryptonian name KAL-EL, which means Voice of God in Hebrew. KAL = Voice & EL = God! Interesting isn't it? So you can find parallels between Superman and Jewish ideas in what they believe will be the messiah. Also its made a great template for what a superhero should be and stand for. I'm not religious but I find it interesting that the most famous Superhero of all time was a direct interpretation of an ancient belief system.

Wait a minute, Superman (the one I remember) never fought for vengeance, and was never prideful or arrogant. He was confident and optimistic, then again, this is the Superman I'm most familiar with. If we're including all the versions of Superman (which may be the case), then yeah, some versions are guilty of those two things. But for the DC canon Superman, he's not guilty of those.

In Superman's first year of publication, he bullied people, beat them up, and casually murdered them while declaring war on capitalism and specifically on the auto industry. As a fictional character of nearly 100 years of ongoing publication history, it's to be expected that he'd be a fluid reflection of the mercurial zeitgeist. It's silly to judge a cartoon character by the Bible; it'd make for a more interesting video to assess Samson's character, whom Superman was inspired by. But you're going to need to be more educated and develop more insight to judge the judge. For instance, Jesus was NOT advocating pacifism when instructing to turn the other cheek. What, are you going to let someone beat you up and murder you, or your loved ones, without putting up a fight? That's not virtuous, that's called being a coward. You really think violence is wrong? Tell that to King David or to Gideon. But instead, Jesus was referring to an insult, not an injury.Taking a slap in the face might wound your pride, but it's not an assault with a deadly weapon. Discern the difference. You might need to go back to Sunday school before pronouncing judgments, even on fictitious characters, for views and Likes. And if you think Superman was disobedient to the Soviet authorities in Red Son, then you missed the point, or you didn't read it. Superman became the governing authority and created the Communist utopia in the only that it could exist with imperfect people in an imperfect world - by becoming a dictator and lobotomizing his people. It wasn't so much a morality play as it was a think piece. Might be the best Superman story ever written.

About every example you can give me, while they are harsh, are not atrocious but a dispense of justice. God can give and take life. A big example of this is the flood in Genesis, if you interpret it literally you can't overlook a literal interpretation of Gen. 6:5.

Christians often don't do themselves much favor, but to call God a genocidal maniac committing atrocities is just childishly silly. You ever kill insects? Like a lot of them?
