I've long suspected that leasing a car was usually a bad deal for the consumer. Thanks for running the math and showing the proof. I've never bought a new car, so I don't take the initial depreciation hit. To make it even more skewed, I pay cash for a car, private party seller, and I do my own maintenance. But I'm a gear head/car enthusiast, and I realize that doing major mechanical work is not an option for most people. And inspecting a used car yourself is not an option for everyone. Everyone has a unique situation, and my situation is unique, so what works for me doens't work for others. In my case, I've gone so far as to replace suspensions/subframes, disassemble/reassemble dashboards/interiors, rebuild engines and even rebuilt transmissions. Not for the casual mechanic. But, I'm not a professional mechanic though I could probably work as one. I'm an engineer, and I make more money doing engineering than being a mechanic (and its easier physically).

So in short, if you’re looking for longevity and drive a lot, own. If you’d like it for casual outings and the ability to upgrade soon, lease. ….but what about leasing vs paying full in cash? 🧐😏

We considered this. Just set the calculator to ‘no financing’ (by setting the down payment on the loan to 100%). Owning wins 99% of the time.

I see a third option, lease the car then buy it off the lease. plus there are a lot of bennies for repeat leasers.

Bmw wanted to buy my bmw 430 grand coupe m sport 2018 back off me and did a lease deal for brand new bmw 118i to have for 2 years then change for £100 month and maintenance come with it do you think I’ve made the right choice ? I know I’m long run I save a lot of money on insurance and fuel because my 430 m was 3.0l so was juicy to run
