No need to go outside unless they're chill cops though. Just speak through the door.

If you step outside they don’t have to let you back in

Thermal Krull was a woman that went missing in Winnipeg back in '15. My wife and I lived in the area. While I was at work, a man knocked on our door. Claiming to be a police officer investigating her case. I got home later. My wife told me that she got a weird vibe from the man but had the chain on the door the entire time. I asked her if she requested to see a badge. She said no. In my head I went "AHHHHHHHHH!" But out loud I said, "maybe do that next time".

If they have a warrant theyll kick it down. If they dont theyll go away.

Also too: people lke me have a hearing problem or I might be sleeping. Just ignore the knocking. If they question you, tell them you didn't know. If there was clear and present danger they wuold knock your open with a ram anyway.

Most cops will just kick the door in if they have a warrant so there will be no need to answer.

I think it was fair in my case because he did have papers to serve me. Idrk but I have nothing to hide

The police don't knock, if they have the right to open your door. Never answer the door, when law enforcement knocks. Call an opposing law enforcement shop and pit them against each other. Police come to your door without a warrant? That's fine, call the sheriff's department. And vice versa.

Nope. No law requires you to answer your door, any more than you are legally bound to answer the phone.
