The Setsuna bullying was really close to home considering the Zamii kerfuffle happened not so long before the show aired. While I wouldn't say that Re:Creators is Classic right now, there are shows and movies that were not all that popular when they came out only to gain cult status later on, I can most definitively say it deserves a watch ... maybe not to the bitter end if it doesn't click ('cause I remember people that should have dropped it a while ago considering they had nothing but vitriol for the show) but it certainly doesn't deserve to be swept by the tides of seasonal anime

As much as I love this show, I do have to agree with some critics and say that Re:CREATORS isn't a modern classic like Attack on Titan or even SAO. For me personally, I love the first half of the show, but I'm unsure of the second half, i.e. everything after Souta's confession (which was episode 13 or 14 I think) save for the final battle. I felt the second half slowly moved away from the creations to the creators (what with the focus on the creators bickering as they tried to write a story to fight against Altair). I personally think there should have been at least 3 more episodes added to show. It doesn't sound much, but I think it would've given more depth into anime fandom culture (e.g. the creations discovering fanart and fanfiction and why fans even bother to make those), explore some of the character of Hikayu (whom I felt was suddenly added into the show), and show the creators' side stories they made for the final battle (which had been mentioned in the dialogue) so we can see what the audience and even the creations think of them (it would be interesting if Altair and/or Blitz noticing these stories online, which would better lead up to their actions into the final battle). Overall, is the show unique? Very. I 100% agree with you that there hasn't been anything like it before and I doubt there will be anything close to it in the near-future. But a classic? Sadly no, but I wish it were. Raika out.

Re:Creators is a "modern classic," but a misunderstood one. Many "classics" are assigned such status long after they aired, as fans look back upon the decade, and Re:Creators is not without glaring flaws. Part of the problem is that Amazon limited its reach; the other part is its ending, which a lot of people didn't understand; the intent of the ending was essentially to say "never give up; no matter how many people criticize you, what matters in creating something is the satisfaction and meaning *you* get from the process." Indeed, the comments on sites like MAL were an exact mirror of the *in unverse* comments about the ending of the show; remember that it was "just a show" for them as well. The in-universe comments panned the ending, calling it a copout, a let down, and absolutely impossible, and even meeting the preconditions for that ending required the characters to literally invert cause and effect. With that said, it's not the only classic of this decade; Konosuba, Attack on Titan, Kimetsu no Yaiba, Fate/Zero, Girls und Panzer, K-On, Stein's;Gate and Boku no Hero Academia are all clear contenders. Sword-Art Online, while genre-defining, isn't a real classic. Also, kudos to you for creating that AMV sequence at the end; as a fan of the show, that gave me goosebumps, and is the best one of the bunch I've seen so far.

Anime from the decade that I believe will be remembered as classics. They will be mentioned from either popularity sake or quality sake... like how Mushishi is not all that popular, it is still remembered as a classic to this day. Will also toss in those that reinvented the wheel with their visual flare... also won't mention films: 2010: Durarara, Katanagatari, Tatami Galaxy, Angel Beats, K-On, Monogatari Series 2011: Madoka Magica, Steins;Gate, Anohana, Kaiji, Fate/Zero (and the rest of the Fate Franchise), Hunter x Hunter 2011 2012: Hyouka, Space Brothers, Sword Art Online, Psycho Pass, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Shinsekai Yori 2013: Attack on Titan, Devil is a Part-Timer, Free!!, Kill La Kill 2014: Noragami, No Game No Life, Haikyuu, Ping Pong the Animation, Tokyo Ghoul, Akame ga Kill, Barakamon, Your Lie in April, Parasyte, Shirobako 2015: Death Parade, Hibike Euphonium, Overlord (god I hate this show so much), One Punch Man 2016: Erased, KonoSuba, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu, My Hero Academia, ReZero, Mob Psycho 100, Sangatsu no Lion, Yuri on Ice 2017: Tsuki ga Kirei, Made in Abyss, Land of the Lustrous, Black Clover (also killing myself for having to add this...) 2018: Violet Evergarden, Devilman Crybaby, A Place Further Than The Universe, Bunny Girl Senpai 2019: Shield Hero, The Promised Neverland, Demon Slayer, Dr. Stone, Vinland Saga, ... not sure for Fall 2019 maybe Beastars. But yeah that's my list. It kills me having to leave out some of my all time favorites from this list but that's just how it works. Lol. 2014 is the best year for anime of this decade.

A lot of those shows are successful not because they reinvent the wheel but because they either a) introduce something new or b) have generic but enjoyable characters. These latter cases are usually either power fantasies (sword art online) or underdog type stories with a heroic journey narrative overall (AoT, K-ON). For true classics of the ones you listed, shows that many people will come back to ten years later or watch again and again, I would list (that i've also seen): 2010: Durarara, Angel Beats, Monogatari, Sora No Wo To 2011: Madoka Magica, Stein's Gate, Fate/Zero 2012: Hyouka, Sword Art Online, Girls und Panzer (the anime that became a genre unto itself and put the real Oorai city on the map), Love, Chuunibyou, and other delusions. 2013: Attack on Titan, Devil is a Part Timer, Kill la Kill 2014: Noragami, NGNL, Akame ga Kill, Your Lie in April 2015: One punch man, Danmachi 2016: Konosuba, Re:Zero, Re:Life, Drifters (maybe) 2017: Kobayashi-San's Maid Dragon, Re:Creators (this will get more popular over time, if Amazon ever drops the exclusivity), Shuumatsu, Maid in Abyss, The Magician's Bride 2018: Violet Evergarden, Stein's;Gate Zero, Delinquent does not dream of a bunny girl, A place further than the universe, Goblin slayer 2019: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Fire-Force, F/GO Babylonia and /or Oresuki. Things I'm leaving out and why, other than not having seen it: -Jojo's Bizarre adventure: I'm stumped on why anyone would think this would be a classic; beyond the over the top execution and memes, this seems to be a "so bad it's good" show. It's overdone, and by the end of the second season it doesn't really bring anything new to the table. -Overlord: A straight power fantasy, and an obnoxious one at that. Neither the storytelling or visuals are that remarkable. -Tokyo Ghoul: doesn't do anything that blood plus / blood C or Gantz didn't do before it. It's another shonen action series. - Black Clover: Complete with an obnoxious main character, it's a Naruto/Boruto replacement, and intended for the same audience. Whatever it does, Demon Slayer does better and in a more interesting world. -Shield Hero: having read the manga, I can safely say that Shield Hero brings nothing new to the table that Sword Art Online or Re:Zero hasn't done in some other way (power trip / persecuted hero), and like sword art online the main carrying power of Shield Hero is in its female cast.

Yes and No. It's not a Dragon Ball Z. Because it lacks Simplicity, Nostalgia, and The copycat feature of EX: someone trying a Kamehameha, Ki Blast, or Signature moves LIKE DBZ. I'd say it is it's own thing. More than a Nice anime of the season/year. But, not some kid could grow up on. Saying this: Re:creators in higher ranked if I put a rank on Animes I watched compared to stuff like Naruto/DB(Z). Probably top 5. I put Re:Zero, Shield Hero, Kimetsu No Yaiba in top 5. So IDK... Re:creator has less content, but I still feel it's great enough to be in my top 10 and possible 5.

When I think of the best of the decade, ReCreators is not even in the Top 100. Sure it has cool action moments and the premise itself is clever. But I feel like it failed miserably at creating a story that lives up to the premise itself. It is nowhere even remotely close to a modern classic. And Mothers Basement does deserve the backlash that he got. ... Even though it's not a great show, Sword Art Online did inspire the creation of many isekai and video game anime to come after it. It also brought in my viewers new to the medium unseen at the time for quite some time. Attack on Titan and One Punch Man and My Hero Academia all fall into this same situation so I'd consider them all to be "modern classics" even tho I do have problems with literally all of them. Recreators, however, has failed to stay in the spotlight even just weeks after it's final episode aired... again. This show is not a modern classic.

"But I feel like it failed miserably at creating a story that lives up to the premise itself." If anything that's because the majority of the audience misinterpreted the premise. Part of this is the show's fault, as the execution could have been better. Regardless, what the majority of the audience *thought* the premise was is Fate / Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works meets Last Action Hero meets Inkheart. The reality is that Re:Creators isn't an action show but a drama about creators and the creative process, one which takes place against the backdrop of a reverse portal fantasy where the creators are literally shown their work and forced to come to terms with it. The show is as much about Sota's journey as a human being and an artist as it is the clash between Altair as a tool of Setsuna's revenge and genre-representing characters. Moreover, it would seem that you also fell for the same trap as many of the viewers; your choice of shows to mention, all of them generic shonen action series that rely on clever execution of spectacle fights to tell their stories, indicates that you also saw Re:Creators as an action show, and completely missed the point that the show's narrative and the drama behind it were trying to make. "Recreators, however, has failed to stay in the spotlight even just weeks after it's final episode aired... again" You can blame Amazon (and their bungled translation) for that. There weren't many who were willing to cough up $20 or more per month and, unlike Crunchyroll and Funimation, Amazon didn't (and still doesn't) have the "wait a week and it's free with annoying ads" option for those who didn't want to cough up the subscription fee.
