RE PSU, I have a 4090 and 13900kf and 850W. I used a power meter to test and with DCS it never went over 500W. I think unless doing extreme overclocking the 850W will be perfectly fine. I also went 3080ti -> 4090 recently and, at least on missions where there isn't a lot going on, I'm getting nearly twice the performance from the GPU - much better than I was expecting. No regrets whatsover, even considering the outrageous price. I am using MT exclusively, so can't speak to single. I think you very likely will see an improvement when you go MT.

100% worth the upgrade for VR enthusiasts. Especially those with the Aero or Crystal. I went from the 3080 Ti to the 4090 and it was a drastic difference maker. It truly almost doubled frames in some instances. Getting 72hz-90hz on the unoptimized flat2VR titles at native resolution in the Aero, all while live streaming 1080p 60fps is truly something I didn't expect until the 5090. Very happy for you to finally have the 4090! You are going to love every moment! Take care!

Great to hear from you farmer! Hope your channel is still going well! Ya, I'm hoping I might be able to push the Crystal into the 120hz range, wouldn't that be something? Maybe with DFR it will happen, we will see. Thanks as always for watching our stuff!

Last year, i finally upgraded from a 1080 to a 3080ti and that was a nice jump. I've wondered about upgrading my 3080ti to a 4090, but I think I'll continue to wait until the next generation so I'm not just chasing the technology every year.
@GYGOtv
@GYGOtv Жыл бұрын
Hi James, yes that is exactly the dilemma I was facing. Seems like lots of others in the comments have made the jump however and seem to be happy with it, so I guess it really comes down to budget and type of games you are playing. IMO if you are not doing hi resolution VR, then the 3080ti will run just about everything else just fine, and with Dynamic Foveated Rendering starting to be a thing, the 3080ti might be just fine with the next generation of VR Headsets too. We will see, and thank you for watching and commenting.

@@JamesTyranski Nice... I hope you used my affiliate when you ordered the Aero :) Anyway, you can expect about the same performance out of the Aero as you are currently getting with the G2. The Varjo Base software is very good and on some of the titles you can even do Dynamic Foveated Rendering with some mods and that REALLY helps the fps. Enjoy!

I went from 3080 to 4090 and it was like leaping two or three generations into the future. I've been building and gaming on PC's for a long time and I don't think there has ever been such a 'unicorn' part like the 4090.

At the beginning of this year, I switched from a GTX 1060 to an RTX 4090. You can imagine how I felt... I would say I should replay all the games. For comparison, the speed of AI image generation used to require waiting for about 45+ seconds, but now it's just a matter of 1 second. VR games, 3D modeling, and all other processes work super fast. To be honest, the computer speed used to limit me quite a bit because I didn't even want to start working due to the lags.

With the multithreading and foveated rendering mod enabled, I can get 90 fps at low altitude with most settings maxed using the Aero and 4090 - I even get a respectable 75fps skimming the ground in Syria...and this is with MSAA on to boot! Probably the biggest improvement though is that if you use the Aero's motion prediction at 45 fps there is pretty much nothing that won't be perfectly smooth, especially in helicopters, and the thing that impresses me the most is being able to fly low at 600mph over treetops with your jet and be able to actually seamlessly look behind you over your shoulder at a target you pass without any jittering or stuttering. The 4090 makes DCS almost a new game.

LOL, looks like we both did pretty much the same upgrade. I went from a FTW3 3080ti to a Gigabyte 4090 gaming OC (and yes, that little anti sag bracket works really well). I also use a 5900x for my CPU. After testing, I would have to say the 4090 is just a hair under twice the performance of the 3080ti. I normally need the horse power for sim racing but just got MSFS on sale so in the process of testing that with my Reverb G2v2. I would have to say I am so impressed with this card, it runs so cool as compared to my 3080ti, it's so nice to not have a space heater in my play room, mind you, it was handy in the winter months (I'm in Canada, LOL). Now my 3080ti has gone into my upstairs computer where I use my Quest-2 and Pico 4 and the 6900xt went into my wife's computer, she occasionally uses her Quest-2 but rarely so that card is serious overkill for what she uses her computer for. I did run the 4090 on only 3 cables from my Seasonic 850 watt PSU and it worked fine, after a few days I decided to go balls to the wall and got a Seasonic Vertex 1200 PSU that has the straight cable to the 4090. Only time you might need more than a 850 watt PSU with the 4090 is if you start OC'ing it, some models of the 4090 can hit 600+ watts so this is where the 850 would be inadequate. Enjoy your new GPU in both machines, looking forward to your thoughts of the Pimax Crystal once you get it, after the expense of the 4090, it'll be a LONG time before I can even consider something like a Crystal or Aero! LOL But to be honest, I'm still very happy with my Reverb G2 considering I'm using Index knuckle controllers with mine for room scale play (my idea of the perfect setup since I'm no big fan of the Index HMD)

Wow Jackr, sounds like we basically followed the same path for sure... Great minds think alike? Good to know you have having similar success with your 4090. I think it is funny when you look at what the 3080ti did running at almost 100% and then the 4090 comes along and says I can do that with one hand tied behind my back (running at 50%). I think we have some headroom for sure in the 4090s. I actually put a small overclock on the 4090 already, but as you said I didn't want to go too crazy with the 850 watt. I'll certainly let you know about the Crystal when I review it, but I can already tell you if you do roomscale, you will love going wireless with that high resolution the Crystal offers! Then once the lighthouse faceplate comes out for the Crystal, you can use your index controllers again too... Just like what I plan to do (as I said, Great Minds!) Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed comment!

@@GYGOtv LOL, yep, GMTA! LOL The problem us simmers seem to be facing now is not the level of the hardware but the age of the software, a lot of racing sims (AC, rFactor-2, RaceRoom to name a few) are still based on DX-9 and it being single core, single threaded, the CPU is the limiting factor, no matter how good the CPU may be. The old software would need a re-write to take advantage of modern hardware and we all know that's not going to happen especially for VR. Actually, my guess is you could use knuckles with the Crystal also, all you need is a pair of "VRdongles" and the free software called "OpenVR Space Calibrator" this is as long as you already have the base stations and knuckles or Vive wands. :) I'm so use to the cable for VR (old OG Vive and CV1 days) that when I use the Quest-2 or Pico 4 in wifi mode, I keep feeling around to find the cable so I don't get tangled in it! LOL Best of luck to you with the Crystal, looking forward to seeing your 1st impressions and review. :)

@GYGOtv Жыл бұрын
Hi jango71, not sure the time stamp is correct because 6min is talking about being CPU Bound... but I get your point. The answer is... it is a tough call and it will really come down to your finances and how much GPU power you need (and what you are upgrading from). For me, if I wasn't "really" upgrading my 3060ti I probably would have skipped the 4090 BUT since I did get it I might as well tell you all my experience and compare it for you. What I'm trying to say here is that there is a noticeable improvement in practice even from the latest gen high end cards (which isn't always the case) so it might make sense for some people who are looking for the absolute best performance you can get right now. From other people's comments above, it seems several people have done exactly what I have done and are happy with the purchase, so it really comes down to your personal situation if it is worth it or not, and my hope is this video gives you a little more info to help you make that decision for yourself. For me, it make sense in my situation and was worth it... for others it might not. I hope that helps answer you question, and thanks for asking about it.

Ever since factory packaged water-cooled GPU's came out several years ago, this is the only way I will roll for now on! No more noisy tiny fans spinning, no more high temps on the GPU, It's been proven reliable on at least 2 generations now too. Best design if you plan on getting any top-end series graphics card with these huge wattage requirements now and in the foreseeable future. HOWEVER: with 30+ years of industrial automation and robotics experience, I had a serious LOL moment when I saw the new 12VHP connector reveal. "They plan on allowing how much wattage through that tiny friken connector, what a damn mistake!" Now they finally admitted it and are redesigning the thing for the next generation. I am more interested in Long-term reliability because I don't replace my parts every couple years. So I just hope you guys out there have no issues with that connector 2-3 years down the road, fingers crossed for you all. More concerned about having to unplug it way down the road in a few years: all the excessive heating and cool-down cycles will loosen the connection points. It may not make proper contact on the next plug-in and melt-down, etc. And the problem applies to both the cable AND the plastic shrouded connector on the card itself! Wishing all the best anyway, enjoy the new upgrade. (I'm still waiting for another year or so for an upgrade.)

Thanks for taking the time to write such a great comment! I agree with all your points, and also don't like the connector. That's why I used the adapter instead of a dedicated cord from the PSU. That being said, the other reason is I think I can get the performance where I want it with the 5900x once I get multi-threading to work. If not the CPU Upgrade might be on my Christmas list, but I will likely need to get a new power supply as well because I don't think the 5900x3D (I'm sure I'd want to go 5900) is as energy efficient as the 5900x (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong because I haven't done my deep research on the CPU yet). Well MSI was the other Option for watercooled, and a cracked Gigabyte is better than a fully working MSI IMO... Actually the cracking is due to how high they cut the card around the PCI Interface. @@GYGOtv for the Crystal you won’t be so much. You always provide a perspective that I don’t find on other channels so I’ll be back to see that review. Hey, don’t get me wrong, I am Subscriber, it was a friendly dig not meant to be as harsh as it sounded.

@@whiteflyingmonkey LOL that was exactly how I took it, was just a friendly poke back at ya... wasn't offended in the slightest!!! Of course I appreciate the sub and the views and feel free to poke anytime... I'm pretty thick skinned. :)

non of it is worth it, we are talking about some pixels and frames moving on a monitor. but if you want the best than you are doomed to pay 2000 euros every two years D;

Hi eduuklee, you are certainly entitled to your opinion... For me it is not pixels and frames moving on a monitor... It's about making me feel like I'm flying an F-18, or a Spaceship or racing in the Indy 500. That might not be worth it to you, but it certainly is to other people like me. Just because you don't enjoy something does not mean others don't, but thanks for the comment.

@@GYGOtv i enjoy gaming thank you very much. But its kind of stupid to asume computer graphics can challange reallity, it never can and 120 teraflops of raw performance wont get you there eighter. Its a false belive, period. the feeling that you get from a simulation does not equal how real life feels and graphics can not trick you into forgetting that. thats what i learnd from having the best graphics for the past 5 years. its not an opinion or personal belife, its a cold fact that computer graphics are not capable to get you there. thereforce not worth it

@@eduuklee9453 I really don't care if you believe me or not. Why are you even watching this stuff if you are so "Sure" it is all lies. My audience seems to like my content so I really don't care what a troll like you thinks. I'm done talking to you... and for the record, I sleep just fine at night knowing I share my honest feelings about all this. Have a nice life.
