I don't think this was mentioned so far, so here it goes. Two former Gretchens were part of the film. While Ashley Park makes a cameo as the French teacher (likely also a nod to starring in "Emily In Paris"), Krystina Alabado is listed in the end credits for contributing backup vocals.

I enjoyed this version. Granted, it doesn't beat the original, but I don't mind what they've changed. And I think everyone who got cast fit their roles really well. Renee Rapp (Regina's actress), Auli'i Cravalho (Janis' new actress), Jaquel Spivey (Damien's actor), and Avantika (Karen's actress) were my personal favorite portrayals. I don't mind what they changed about this version, either. It's an adaptation of the musical, which was adapted from the original movie. I always prefer when reboots do something different. I think having social media play a role in this helps. I know some people argue that most movies can't do it well, but for a movie like Mean Girls, it makes the most sense to me. People of all ages get to live out their 'mean girl fantasy' online nowadays, by being anonymous. Anybody can be a 'mean girl' on the Internet now, and plenty just tune in for the drama. I think this version of Mean Girls used that concept quite well, while not relying too much on the social aspect, in my opinion. I think it fit best during the Burn Book scene, and Regina VS the bus as well.

Reneé Rapp was the star of the movie in my opinion. Regina felt more evil and manipulative in this one while Rachel McAdams' version was more mean and fake (nice to your face and a bitch behind your back), if that makes sense. They both had interesting takes on the character (the writing as well of course). I can't even imagine having to live up to that iconic performance. Or Lindsay Lohan's for that matter. Angourie Rice (pronounced Ang-OW-ree) was okay as Cady and I like her soft voice but she was just kind of bland in this role and I didn't find her very believable as the bitchy Cady, especially because it happened so sudden. Auli'i Cravalho (pronounced OW-Lee-ee Cruh-VAL-eyo) as Janis (she voiced Moana), Jaquel Spivey as Damian and Avantika as Karen were incredible (though Janis as a character wasn't as strong or likable in my opinion). I didn't really feel much with the actress portraying Gretchen or the actor portraying Aaron though. I don't know what it is, I just like them better in the original. I also felt no chemistry between Aaron & Regina or Aaron & Cady. I felt more chemistry between Regina & Cady (which makes sense since Reneé played her as being a lesbian and flirting with Cady) and even Cady & Janis. I like that they kept a lot of the iconic lines but some of them don't hit as hard and I still miss a few, like "If you're from Africa why are you white?", "Oh my God, Karen you can't just ask people why they're white" and "Raise your hand if you have ever been personally victimised by Regina George". A lot of it was changed to be more politically correct which I usually don't have a problem with but it felt odd to cut some of the slurs & insults and just add others instead, like the line about Karen having had sex with 11 people. I think overall they did a good job at keeping it similar but not the exact same. Lindsay Lohan's breakthrough role was in The Parent Trap in 1998. In the early-mid 2000s she appeared in teen movies/chick flicks like Freaky Friday, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, Just My Luck, Herbie: Fully Loaded and Life-Size. She starred in Netflix's Falling for Christmas in 2022 with Chord Overstreet (Sam on Glee) and Irish Wish which was released this March. She is set to star in at least one more movie on Netflix and a sequel to Freaky Friday. She is also a singer and released an album called Speak in 2004. The lead single, Rumors (which I was obsessed with), is about the media and paparazzi. Her second album, A Little More Personal (Raw), was released a year later. She co-wrote the lead single, Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father), which is about her dad, an abusive alcoholic who was absent for a big part of her life. Fun facts: Tina Fey, who wrote the screenplay for both movies (she even considered directing this one), invented the slang term "fetch". She didn't want to use an expression teenagers actually use so it wouldn't become outdated later. Gretchen's "I got it from an old movie" is a reference to the original, which having been released 20 years earlier, could now be considered an "old movie". The movie that she thinks it might be from, Juno, was released in 2007 and often criticised for its excessive use of completely made-up slang. Also, Glen Coco is an actual person and a good friend of Tina Fey. There are several costume references to the original, like Cady's revenge party outfit, Ms. Norbury's polka dot shirt and Mr. Duvall's sweater vest. Mr. Duvall is also seen wearing a cast throughout the movie as a joke, since in the original he had it in the second part of the movie because Tim Meadows had broken his hand prior to filming. While Karen is looking through outfits for the Halloween party, there is a brief shot of the white tank top and purple bra outfit with the holes that Regina made trendy. Regina's mum also wears a pink tracksuit. Regina wore a t-shirt with the phrase "A little bit dramatic" and in this she has the word "dramatic" printed in bold letters in her room. Also, when Gretchen and Cady are in Regina's closet and Gretchen is singing, she holds a light pink jacket similar to the one Regina wore when she came to Cady's party in the original. Other little details are Regina, Cady and Karen wearing necklaces with their initials (including the backward "K" necklace) and Mr. Duvall having a framed photo of him from the original in his office. 14 songs from the musical were cut for the movie but almost all the songs in the movie are from the musical. Cady's first song What Ifs (co-written by Reneé Rapp) replaced It Roars. The reprise of Stupid With Love is performed by Cady and Aaron in the musical but in the movie it is performed by Cady, replacing Do This Thing (Kevin's use of the word "squills" is a reference to that song). During the gym scene when Ms. Norbury appears to be about to sing, the music is Where Do You Belong?, Damian's cut song from the musical. Only a short snippet of Rockin' Around the Pole is in the musical (replacing Jingle Bell Rock in the original). I'm not good at math at all but I've seen some people talk about how because the equation at the Mathletes is different, then the answer is wrong and the limit actually DOES exist. Here is a video explaining it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jbhmm9J8xKqsmZc.html si=Kw0aQgHZkpKuaTUJ. Also, when Regina asks Cady what percentage 48 calories from fat out of 120 total calories is, Cady says the right answer but the wrong number when doing the math; 42 instead of 48 (which makes the answer 35% instead of 40%). Janis and Karen's last names were changed to reflect the backgrounds of the actresses playing them. Janis's last name was Ian in the movie (a reference to At Seventeen singer Janis Ian) and Sarkassian in the musical but in this movie it's Imi'Ike because Auli'i Cravalho is Hawaiian. Karen's last name was changed from Smith to Shetty because Avantika is Indian. Principal Duvall is seen wearing a cast throughout the movie as a joke, since in the original he had it in the second part of the movie because Tim Meadows had broken his hand prior to filming. It is also implied that he and Ms. Norbury are either in a relationship or are married (in the original he liked her but she wasn't interested). If you pause on Gretchen's playlist, you can see that the song playing is by the actress herself, Bebe Wood, called Thieving Dreams. There are also the playlists "HELP CADY BE NORMAL", "SQUATS AND ABS Workout", "Songs Regina hates", "Broadway Karaoke", "Ariana Grande Hanukkah", "This is Lea Michele", "Songs Regina likes" and "Cuban Jazz para Abuela". When the plastics are performing at the talent show and Damian says "Thank you, next" is a reference to Ariana Grande's song of the same name in which the music video was partially inspired by the original movie (and references that scene in particular). The outfits were also more influenced by the video than the original movie. The Mathlete moderator (played by Lindsay Lohan) says that there has been a tie only once before, a clear reference to when Cady broke the tie in the original movie. Ms. Norbury's "Hey! PG-13!" is a reference to the fact that many of the racier jokes from Tina Fey's original screenplay were cut from the 2004 movie in order to secure a PG-13 rating. Ashley Park (French teacher) originated the role of Gretchen in the musical.

Tbh as someone who loves the OG movie and the broadway musical (and was VERY excited for this movie) I was let down. It felt like the directors couldn’t make a choice of if it was a movie or a movie musical. They took out some of Cady’s most important songs (It roars and More is Better) and replaced them with forgettable songs and short scenes for super important parts of the movie. Also no hate to the actress, but they casted someone that doesn’t have the range for the role of Cady and they didn’t have Aaron sing, like just why? Renee Rapp tho was phenomenal and for sure carried, also Janis and Damion were super good. I also didn’t love how they broke the 4th wall so much, like they had funny jokes and then they would break the 4th wall and ruin them. The movies product placement was also TERRIBLE and not in character. Like I’m sorry but Regina George would not be caught dead with elf lip gloss or in SHEIN clothing, one of her most important lines is “I’ve got money and looks, I am like drunk with power” so it doesn’t make sense for her to be using a $3 lip gloss or to wear something not expensive like commit and get that girl Dior or CT like we know that’s what she would be using. The songs were fine, but they totally messed up the backtracks and took away the part that made it feel like a musical, for example “stupid with love” is supposed to build up how different and uncultured Cady is when it comes to love and Western relationships through her crazy and overly excited instantaneous love for Aaron, and the movie did not show that. Also with the backtracks they made the songs more energetic so replacing them lessened the impact. Again I will never understand why they removed “It Roars” and replaced it with that SUPER forgettable song, like WHY??? Honestly I was just super excited for this movie and it was super sad that it just wasn’t that good. I feel like if they were to do it again they would just need to commit to either a remake or a movie musical and go with it, and then choose a cast based on their ability to sing and perform the roles accurately, not based on popularity (like girl we know you only casted that guy bc he’s Conrad in TSITP) and honestly just stick to the rule of if it ain’t broke don’t fix it🤷🏻‍♀️
