Is there an easy way to find out what size your local IMAX screen is? Can't seem to find the dimensions on either websites for the theatre or IMAX.

I saw it on a regular screen, and also on IMAX. Both were great. The Imax version,which vibrates the whole room in key jet scenes, was fantastic.

I spent $41 at Lincoln Square AMC IMAX on Broadway NYC. I was at the edge of my seat, I cried, I marveled, what a triumphant movie this is, it needs the best screen out there, and the IMAX experience really made me more human!

Went to see it in IMAX at the largest IMAX screen in my state. Well worth it. Screen felt the size of a old drive in. Image was crisp and sound was top notch. Seating location is key for best experience. We were 7 rows back and clearly on the right side of center. We saw the Original Top Gun a few days ago in my home theater. 100” 1080p projector with 5.2.2 Surround. I got a pretty good theatre set up at home.

I watched it on IMAX, and the answer is YES! That opening scene was absolutely beautiful.

I saw it in both IMAX and regular. ABSOLUTELY worth it to see in IMAX. the image quality was phenomenal! Don’t forget about the incredible sound in IMAX theaters!

For the US Navy - Top Gun: Maverick will do for their recruiting what the 1st Top Gun did. I know the Navy was compensated for use of their equipment & crew, but they also got one heck of a recruiting tool.

I saw Top Gun Maverick on 4DX last Sunday on an early premiere here in Costa Rica. It was such a blast! Highly recommended it! Seats moving, feeling the wind on flybys, flares, it all adds up.

I took my son to see TGM at the Regal theater in Sheepshead Bay, NY and when we heard the previews, I looked at my son and said, this is going to be loud. lol The sound was unbelievable and crystal clear with absolutely no distortion. The visuals were amazing and every attention to detail was impeccable. When the footage was inserted from flashbacks of the original TG, you could see a difference. The digital technology has come a long way and I'd say the lighting was remarkable. When I don't notice anything special about lighting, that means it was natural and fitting!

The original Top Gun came during a time when the military's involvement with movies were almost unheard of, especially with then current day weaponry. But the results from the film was something no one could've predicted. The films success saw to Navy enrollment jumping up well over 500%. people would give their left nut to become a naval aviator. Its sparked so much interest that it also saw to increase funds being allocated to the military, culturally it was transformative. And the Navy never forgot what such a film could do for it as a whole. Naval officers especially Navy pilots were now viewed like superstars. The film surely changed their lives in every conceivable way. The aftermath of the original Top Gun was lasting to this day, but with so much time removed from the original film, generations of young adults were only in tuned with the notion of a naval career was by way of video games. As not many films since Top Gun were as game changing as to steer kids into that direction. so some 30 years later we finally have the sequel, and several generations of viewers who had not experienced the first coming of the film, chimed in to see the first film before seeing the new film, and so many are blown away by a film they've loosely heard about but never truly watched. And once again, with the success of Top Gun:Maverick world over, we are beginning to see that interest from our youth to view our miltary as a career option And this is very good, because ever since the long gap between the original film has a vast decrease in aviation has occurred. Most commercial airline pilots hail from military careers, and their numbers are dwindling as they retire from service with few new pilots to replace them. we see the same in many industries and careers across the board. Even high paying jobs that are categorized often as 'dirty jobs' have seen little in interest from young workers, The nation is in dire shortage of Plumbers, electricians, mechanics, skilled tradesmen and craftsmen, as computer based careers has dominated school curriculums, as computer only incur a hefty one time fee for purchase and software, but lasts operations for at least a decade. Also The US as a whole has abandoned much of its reliance upon domestic workforce in favor for cheap foreign labor and manufacturing, often that of Asian resources, which has been essential to their growth. In other words, we sold our nations grow for gains in profit for the rich, leaving the American worker out to dry. so as a whole hopefully the new film will see to a resurgence in interest our of youth into the careers least considered.

I saw the movie day before yesterday at my local IMAX theater. It was absolutely the way to see this movie to truly appreciate the fantastic aerial cinematography. It is truly next level.

I’m honestly surprised you didn’t mention that the majority of the movie has scenes in 1.90:1. Nearly all of the flying scenes fill up the extra 26% that you would be missing if you didn’t see it in IMAX. I saw it in a 1.43:1 IMAX theatre and yes, it’s a shame that it doesn’t fill up that whole screen, but the IMAX scenes do stand out and look phenomenal. Missing out on the extra 26% of image is a bigger deal to me than the sound, which I’ve hardly had a bad experience with in IMAX. The only movie that was ridiculously quite for IMAX was Black Widow. There was no oofm to it at all.

I saw on both IMAX and regular screen with Dolby Surround 7.1. On IMAX there is a bit downgrade in picture quality due to they didn't shoot it with real IMAX camera. But some of the footage is shown with IMAX ratio, so we could get more full picture. In term of sound, because of IMAX "realistic" sound, sometimes the song can be heard louder than the dialogue which feels unbalanced. The jet engine sound also feels realistic but not bass boosted (still loud, like what we can hear in airport, but less bass boost). Meanwhile on regular screen with Dolby Surround 7.1, the image quality fits the screen and clearer, if not clearest. The minus is just the ratio would cut some of visuals that could be seen in IMAX ratio. But the overall visuals is still amazing to see. The sound is great in Dolby, feels more cinematic and bass boosted from beginning till the end, immersed audience with great cinematic experience and jet engine roar (especially). In conclusion: If want more full picture, watch IMAX. If want cinematic experience and right quality of image plus with bass boosted sound, watch the regular one.

I saw Top Gun: Maverick last night at Fayetteville 14 (Fayetteville,NC) in Dolby Cinema at AMC…cost me $22 for an early screening. Which we did receive a small movie poster and a Maverick pin as souvenirs. The sound was unmatched by any sound you can experience in any home theater. Picture was as crisp as any OLED television but 100 times bigger. Great story, acting, action, sound, and picture…what more can you ask for! One of many viewings for me!

To me it does't matter. I already have tickets to see it in IMAX and I'm sure it's going to be great in that Format regardless. I want to have a second showing at Dolby cinema AMC next just to compare. I cannot wait to see it.

Saw the IMAX preview when watching Doctor Strange: MoM and honestly I would go with the IMAX version over the others

Haven't been to an Imax since Avatar. Haven't been to a theater since the start of covid. I just saw this in an Imax laser theater with the new upgraded sound system. IT WAS FANTASTIC! Maybe a bit too loud but I adjusted into it when Danger Zone kicked in.

Saw it in IMAX a few days ago. When the end credits started rolling there was a 5 minute ovation.

Simply in iMax its THE best film in many many years . Stunning in every way, an dream of a thrill ride from start to finish. You laugh, you cry, you are amazed, your in for one hell of a roller coaster thrill ride. A MUST SEE.

Definitely should have included discussion of aspect ratios, as the final film being 1:90:1 (IMAX AR) might make up for any true IMAX camera/IMAX certified camera concerns and differences. I'm also sure the Sony "IMAX" certified camera is probably pretty high end, and will provide a fantastic IMAX experience.

Already reserved my IMAX ticket for AMC Lincoln Square 13. 😎 Then watching it again in Dolby Cinema. 😁👍

Saw it Tuesday night at Grauman's Chinese Theater in IMAX. The bigger the screen the better the experience. You can always watch it later on your laptops 15" screen. But the experience just isn't the same.

I thoroughly enjoy your videos. After watching you videos only, I appreciate the technical details in a film. But I have a confusion/doubt as to why one calls some theatre as liemax. Is it because of the digital format in which it being shown or is it because of size? Sorry to ask this again.

Saw it in D-BOX. Amazing feeling the thrust of the engines and the sway of the planes coming from your seat. I highly recommend this format.

I saw an early screening in Dolby and it was INCREDIBLE. The seats were shaking which really felt like that you were part of the film on the plane with Tom Cruise. I plan on catching it in IMAX to see how it lines up, but Dolby has the advantage here.

I dont see movies in imax any more unless the movie was shot using film and is the classic 1.43:1 imax ratio. Everything now is shot in digital so I usually go to dolby cinema to see movies. I need to see a movie in screen x but there isn't one near me. 😕

Keep up the good work informing everyone, but I'm surprised that you didn't mention the expanded IMAX aspect ratio for Top Gun: Maverick. It may not be the real film cameras, but I think it should still be brought up to let everyone know. I saw the IMAX preview for it at AMC Metreon 16 during Multiverse of Madness, and it was jaw dropping.

I saw it in CINE 1 and it was amazing. Cine 1 features an 80 foot screen with laser projection; Dobly Atmos 3D sound pouring out of more than 175 speakers for directional effect.

I just watched it at a big screen, 4K, Dolby atmos cinema here in the UK and I have to say, it was epic. Maybe IMAX would be better but it looked pretty perfect to me.

I saw it on the Grand screen with Dolby surround and it was awesome then I saw it in imex and it was incredible such a tall and huge screen but it didn't have the surround sound. Both were excellent but I'd like to have the Dolby system with the imax screen.

greetings. i have already reserved my ticketss for Saturdays showtime in IMAX. because i love IMAX films in AMC Lincoln. Regal's ScreenX was a bit of a let down when i saw the 1st Fantastic Beast... i was under the impression i would be surrounded & immersed throughout the film, not is pieces ere & there. however, i will see it again in AMC's Dobly, because of your recommendation that the IMAX viewing isn't necessarily the best way.... thank you for another great & most informative episode.

My wife and I saw it on a Dolby Cinema screen in Wichita, Kansas last weekend. It was the second movie we saw on that screen this year and love it! We had the back row against the wall and it felt like the subs were right behind us, as the seats were shaking the entire time!. The screen is good size and I am fine choosing it over IMAX.

Thanks we just may go see Top Gun 2 next weekend in our local Southeast Cinema. :)

I saw it at AMC in IMAX Laser first and then Dolby. At least for my theater, Dolby has the picture and sound quality hands down, but IMAX is absolutely the way to go. It was shot for that resolution and size so it just didn't feel completely right on a different screen, especially having chosen IMAX first. Either way, it's a masterpiece and you can't really go wrong.

Very surprised you didn’t mention the expanded 1.90:1 aspect ratio (for select scenes) exclusive to IMAX locations. I’ve seen it in both 2.35-locked (with Atmos as well) and IMAX, and the IMAX experience is far superior.

I’m gonna watch it in ScreenX. It’s gonna be my first time experiencing ScreenX and Top Gun seems like the ideal movie for it! Here in Canada I don’t think we have Dolby Cinemas. We have Cineplex UltraAvx, some with Dolby Atmos though.

Trying to figure out where to see this movie is a real PITA. Here in Portland, we dont have 4DX screens. We have some ScreenX but the 56 minutes of side content rendered in lower resolution isnt a draw for me. We have IMAX screens, but I cant figure out what types they are and am afraid theyre the smaller versions. We do have some Dolby Cinemas around, though, and these appear to be large screens in big auditoriums, so I guess Ill be seeing it there.

totally worth it. will be seeing @ udvar hazy center in Virginia. they have IMAX with laser on an 86' X 63' screen. and yes, those dimensions are real. saw dune there last fall and this my premier house to watch big-big movies.

Went with the 4DX version last night in KL Malaysia. Seat movements were lifelike, especially the wind on your face... but the screen and sound wasn't immersive enough for me. Seat movements distracts me from the character on screen too. Going for Second round with IMAX with laser for me @ Singapore

What’s your opinion on DLX ultrascreen from Marcus theaters, personally I think it’s good especially since it’s close to me. But I always go to amc Dolby instead and it’s cheaper
