When Rae talked about bringing agents into the mix more I was reminded of the Peter Bol case here in Australia. When Bol's sample returned a positive for EPO his agent James Templeton insisted on attending the testing of his B sample. Bol was cleared on the basis of the B sample testing. One thing the panel doesn't mention is that being named a drug cheat and being suspended for a short period as Bol was could be enough to derail someone's career. In 2021 at the Tokyo Olympics Peter Bol ran 4th in the 800m. He was probably the most famous track and field athlete in Australia at the time. He was suspended in January 2023. He was cleared soon after but the local doping authority continued to investigate for another 6 months and you've only got to look at his times and places since then to see he never came back from the mental and physical disruption caused by the allegations of doping.

Ion like how y’all are downplaying a 10.65 championship record. While it’s true someone from an outside lane can sneak in a win like Gatlin in 2017 but not with a 10.65! Even if they saw her Shericka and Shelly didn’t have sub 10.65 in their legs. Gatlin’s win was a 9.9 and it was a photo finish that’s different.

Shericka ran 10.65 with a tailwind at the trials and never came close, Sha’Carri beat her every time they met before that final. So yea, Shericka and Shelly didn’t have sub 10.65 into a headwind in that final. They didn’t even come close.

Track is such a jealous and unforgiving sport (the people and the sport itself) as its so dependent on the athlete being there throught the whole process of training of competing in or to develop mentally and physically. Typically it's almost impossible for an athlete to return to their glory after 4 years of suspension to be completely honest. The remarkable achievements/milestones Gatlin was able to obtain will forever flag him as the greatest 'what if?' stories in track and field.

I'm guessing these guy have people that guide them on what to take and how long they should take it. They probably either test any supplements the athlete takes or they tell the athlete to avoid supplements. You would never suspect Gatorade would be putting illegal substances into their products though. That caught them off guard. There should definitely be a big lawsuit either way.

Great conversation.... As far as track goes. The athletes need to be paid more across the board. The women are much more marketable than the men. Sydney Shecarri Athing the Jamaican 3 headed monster in Shelly Elaine and Sherika, Faith kipyegon and Hasan, Valerie Allman just to name a few are holding down track and field. Noah Lyles Mondo and crouser with a few others are the only ones that make a splash. The new wave of men sprinters are so inconsistent and have dry personalities. I like that they are using Noah to drive the machine. He'll need a world record though to be fully embraced

I don't know a lot about track, but I think what brought me to this channel is also a problem. A little over a year ago, my old boss, who used to run track for ohio state (old cool white guy) started talking to me about track because he knew I loved sports. He spent the majority of the conversation crapping on the sport, specifically calling out justin and flo jo. He even claimed that though bolt was never caught, everyone who has ran before knows he cheated as well. Regardless of how you feel about what my boss said, it was shocking to me to see someone who ran denigrate his sport like that to someone who literally only knew that bolt was the fastest man when he was in college lol. You hardley ever hear other atheletes (at any level) crapping on their greats, even the ones that cheated and commited even uglier crimes. For example, look at how mike tyson is revered for the most part. I'd much rather have my daughter bring home a justin type than a tyson type. And tyson gets so much love, whereas when I looked up justin videos, I would say it was 98% hate. When you build up those heroes, even ones that have setbacks, it builds the mystique of the whole sport. And most people love comeback stories anyway. It's sad how they treat track athletes. The good thing is, my boss telling me all that stuff made me want to check it out myself. And now I watch the pod and have started following track.

Olympics generated more than a billion dollars and Olympians get crumbs.... They get crumbs because the leadership still consider it an amateur sport. Top tier Battle rappers get paid more to battle than most athletes get for first place Track and field has to become more than an elitist sport. Every quarterback in the NFL gets coverage even the ones that aren't good. There is too big of a gap between the first and second place in track and field at the pro level. Everyone in a championship final needs to have big publicity.

Sprinter are showcasing the potential of the human body, through hard work. They don't do that in basketball or football, if athletes cheat they are going against everything the sport stands for so 4 years or more is not harsh a punishment.

If sprinting was truly a showcase of what the human body is capable of then enhanced athletes would be allowed. And if you think everyone at that level isn't already enhanced in some way or believe that enhancements replace hard work, then it's clear you know nothing about track and field.
