A lot talk here about #worktheplan.
Let’s discuss said plan. Swollen and six months out #postsurgery is not an uncommon site in the clinic. Where many protocols cut the athlete loose after three months, it’s crucial to have a plan in place for this eventuality. And for the athlete to know that swelling is going to happen as the vascular networks get rebuilt and tissue responses to loading become normalized.
So, load you must, but that #yugo leg is going to swell. To manage this, the post-surgery athlete really should have a NMES device (H-Wave or other) to be worn for long periods of time. 20-30 min is great, but something you can have on for multiple hours helps the athlete get ahead, stay ahead, and avoid being limited by effusion in the affected area.
Share with a post-surgery friend and get them on the right path.

Do you have any suggestion for a more affordable nmes unit. Hwave is out of my wheel house, but at the same time i don't want to buy something that won't work properly.

You mentioned any NEMS device but not TENS why is tens off limits?

I don't know the hard science but you can only use a tens for short periods in a specific area or you can do damage. He is suggesting hour plus, you'd be in a world of hurt.

TENS is not recommended because it serves to provide pain modulation. TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) pads stimulate the nerve receptors it directly contacts, then stimulating the A-beta nerve fibers, which override the pain signals taken up from the A-delta and C fibers. In other words TENS is used to support gate-control theory for pain modulation. NMES (neuromuscular electrical stimulation) however is providing electrical currents that stimulate the muscle enough to take it through contractions. Contracting the muscles involved pushes on the lymphatic system and surrounding tissue that is housing the fluid buildup, then mobilizing the effusion and fluid buildup. Using an NMES device daily would allow more frequent efforts to mobilize that effusion, therefore hopefully reducing swelling.

my friend, if I was not already watching your videos before I got hurt (since mobwod 40) I would have been toast after massive trauma to my lowerback and hip. Instead many of the principles that you highlighted during mobwod such as tunnels of movement and cultivating external rotation really helped me keep a clear bearing when signals from the body become somewhat stormy post trauma... Thank you.
