If you live in NYC, you pretty much are used to being in a competitive environment. Each school has thousands of students, and the SHSAT is like a slightly easier version of the SAT, the high school admissions process is also very similar to the colleges' but just no essays.
@zakarya569
@zakarya569 4 жыл бұрын
i agree, because i took the shsat a few weeks ago. It was pretty easy tbh and math was pretty easy and ela was ok and not as bad as everyone said it was. It may have been my form because most people i've asked said ela was really hard

Michelle was involved in cross country track, president of Key Club, and the founder/president of HAFTA. Being the president of two organizations and writing genuine essays is probably what got her in even with lowish scores. And we don't know what her GPA/rank, teacher recs, etc were like so there's no way to tell exactly how competitive her chances might have been

I have zero understanding on how the SATs measure college readiness. It's all SKILL BASED. SKILLS does NOT EQUAL preparedeness.
@kmcprfam
@kmcprfam 10 жыл бұрын
The SAT Reasoning correlates with freshman year grades. Thus, it's conceivable to assume they measure someone's preparedness. The SAT Subject tests, of all measures of an applicant's preparedness show the greatest correlation. They have a greater correlation with college GPA than does high school GPA.
@Hawktotalwar
@Hawktotalwar 10 жыл бұрын
kmcprfam a correlation is not a causation, for instance you can't say people who eats ice cream a lot have a higher chance to score 2400 on sat even when there is a correlation.
@lucyheartifilia508
@lucyheartifilia508 8 жыл бұрын
+kmcprfam College success is a result of an entirely different skill set than the SAT. Succeeding in college is due to good time management, organization and ability to focus and develop a good work ethic. I scored a 1,530 on the SAT (on the new scale, which is out of 1600) and have a terrible work ethic, so I struggled a lot in college as a freshman. My friend got a 1,270 on the SAT, but she had a better GPA than me in college because her work ethic was much better. I had a 3.5, she has a 3.9.....so. Anyone with common sense knows college isn't about good you are at taking tests, but about how hard you work.
@HarvinderSandhuEsq
@HarvinderSandhuEsq 6 жыл бұрын
Manny M. If you kill it without (much) study you probably have high iq... if you study hard and get a good score, you have an academic focus and discipline... both are factors that lead to college success

There are more to admissions than just gpa and sat altho they are very important. Basically, if you've ever seen any admission stats from harvard, mit. They regularly reject 2400 and perfect gpa students. And they tend to accept students who do well, but are really involved and move the admission officers with their essays.

I struggled studying for my SATs and after taking it two days ago, I just can't tell how I did. I mainly studied the Critical Reading section and every time I finished one section of the Critical Reading my results for that section suck. However it's good not to be confident, rather unsure. I didn't finish my essay because I wrote too slow (25 min. isn't enough for me).

I regret how much I didn't prepare for my SAT II's. I was swallowed up by apathy, I'd burned myself out to the point where I could not motivate myself to study for them. But my parents are not very actively invested in my education, so maybe if I had had that outer pressure things would have been different (note, I'm not blaming them or anything). To anyone reading this! Take steps to avoid burn out, and put in the effort. You never want to regret an opportunity.

I got one C in a chemistry class my sophmore year of highschool, other than that I'm predominantly an A student. Im not saying slacking is good but there are other ways to make money.This country needs entrepreneurs and skilled workers(Welders,engineers,hvac).Do not rely on any learning institution expecting a huge pay off.You have take whatever school your at and go outside of just the schools curriculum and go above and beyond, be creative,learn specific skills.
