Not to mention Ser Brien filling out Jamie's passage in the king's guard book, that made me so happy, which is crazy because season 1 and 2 I hated Jamie, I was hoping he would get messed up by someone in a fight, I wanted to see his demise but after season 3 and what he did for Brien and learning why he killed the mad king he became one of my favourite characters 👌

And the way her face changes when it hits her. There is no one in this room that does not understand the significance of what she is being offered (even Tormund gets that it's some kind of big deal). There is no one in this room who would joke about something like this. There is no one in this room who does not currently honor that code, knight or not. Every one of them is here so that they might die tomorrow defending the innocent. All the pomp, all the circumstance, all the conflicting vows and shows of chivalry- none of them existed in that room at that moment. This was always the purpose of those vows, long before they were twisted by violence and ambition. You can see the exact moment it hits her that they're serious. And then, a moment later, when it hits her that they are serious because she really does deserve it.

@@kalimaude3532 ✨👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Beautifully said. I think it takes her a minute to process just how far she’s come in terms of how the world perceives her since the root of her trauma occurred. Like the part about her not only realizing that no one there would play such a cruel joke about something so serious, they all respect and understand the gravity of the rite being offered, AND she realizes she deserves it. That regardless of what other people might believe (re: her being responsible for Renley’s death), she isn’t guilty of any faults other than ones any normal human would have struggled with, and as Podrick points out earlier in the episode, she kept her word to Catelyn Stark. Both her daughters are currently alive and at Winterfell and she, Brienne, played a huge part of that. She’s a fierce and highly capable warrior of great principle that would make an excellent True Knight in an era where the moral decay of such titles is the standard. Everyone is corrupt or out for their own means to some end, except Brienne, who just wants to serve, and be willing to die for, a truly worthy individual or cause.

This scene perfectly closes Brieene and Jaime's arc. At the beginning of their common history, she considered him a man without honor, unworthy of a knight's cloak. And now she accepts a knighthood from his hand. For a man who is so scrupulous about the concepts of honor and chivalry, this is an act of recognition that he has changed, that he is worthy, that she respects him. Perfect scene.

I love the shot of Jamie steadying his grip. It's not just him not being used to his left hand, which has obvious history when it comes to Brienne, but he's making sure his grip is completely steady, because this is just as important of a moment for him as it is for Brienne and he doesn't want to be shaky. It's a subtle thing, but that's why that's there. I'm sure of it.

Perhaps for you, it's a waste. But you need not apply your tragic, defeated world view to these folks. She's being honored by her peers, her friends. And for a woman to earn the respect of men in those ancient times is no small matter...we could still learn something from that in our jaded, modern era.
@amoththatthinks
@amoththatthinks 11 ай бұрын
@@garyspence2128 brother its a fantasy world. Also defeated world view? C'mon now don't be intentionally dull. The woman earned nothing. She was born with bad genes which made her look like a man and growing up treated like a boy she decided to take on her insecurity and make it her strength which in hindsight and in theory sounds nice but in a retro-perspective view and also practicality it was a waste of *life*. I wouldn't recommend anyone to do that with their insecurities. Laugh at your insecurities, don't make them a fortress nobody can enter and treat you well. There is to learn from that situation, well nothing nice to be precise. Also just because we live in a modern con-temporary society doesn't inherently make it 'jaded' rather makes it an explorers golden time.

@@amoththatthinksshe earned the title she had been denied due to her gender but had done more than enough to deserve, she earned the acknowledgment of her peers, she earned a place of equal footing with a man she greatly respected, she did not earn nothing. Symbolic gestures can still mean a lot for someone, you’re not supposed to watch this scene and see her crying tears of joy and think that’s because she’s so happy at the land and wealth she will now accrue from being a knight. Also my guy, because of her doing this thing you’re saying no good came out of, the world was saved. A number of key people wouldn’t be alive or wouldn’t be who/where they need to be if not for her place in the story. Her taking on that insecurity and making it a strength essentially saved the world.

She receives the sword and names it Oathkeeper to honor his oath to Lady Catlyn Stark to bring Sansa back home to Winterfell. She vouches for Jaime to join the fight against the Army Of The Dead. And he proudly knights her -- even with the gesture of him lifting his chin up when he says, "Arise, Brienne Of Tarth. A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms". Imo the explosion of the Sept of Baelor is a far more powerful scene, and the conversation between Jaime and Brienne in the pools of Harrenhall as well, but I would surely place this one in a top-5 best moments of the show for sure

Regardless of the show'a faults, it's moments like this as well as it's music that remind me of why I love this series so much. This series was the bridge that allowed me to go back to the books that I DNFed the first time around and finish them gaining an even deeper appreciation of the literary masterpiece that is ASOIAF. If not for this show, though, it may never have happened.

I love the smaller details in this scene. Brienne's doubt before realizing he is serious, Jamie making sure his grip is strong as hes about to Knight someone far more deserving than other Knights, podrick looking on with pride, and everyone putting down their drinks to witness a noble and honorable warrior be given what theyve been after.

0:34 The way he delivers the line is so good, as if Jaime himself is only just realizing the obvious loophole to "tradition", that all it takes is one knight choosing to recognize someone's worthiness of the title and act, and that he can give the ultimate gift to his extremely deserving friend. It's the recognition that the charges in the Oath aren't just expectations, they're values that Brienne has already upheld time and again even without the title (and the memory in his expression of how he knows the weight of not always living up to that Oath). Side note: Imagine how much better this absolutely brilliant scene would have been if the lighting choices allowed you to see everything and take in the moment in full?

It would also have been a bit better if he hadn't for some reason chosen to stand so far away before asking her to kneel. If he had gone toward her instead of away she wouldn't have had to walk so far doubting this was real and they would have been in the fire light so easier to be seen

This scene really made all these characters shine and literally brought me to tears. For all her life, Brienne had been mocked by others so she at first doesn’t believe what’s happening is real. That look Podrick gives her along with Tormund’s support empowers her and finally Jaime, a character who had such an amazing arc completes the scene by giving her something she always wanted and deserved. In a way, Jaime even gave himself affirmation that he was always “protecting the innocent” when he stabbed the Mad King. And finally, that genuine smile of happiness by Brienne is such a wonderful vulnerable moment. Such a great scene

I like how they focused on some of the characters when Jaime named off the faith. The warrior stays with Brienne, with the Father, it focuses on Davos, and the mother ties in with Jaime. Brave, Just, and Defender of the Innocent.

I love that Tyrion gets up because he knows how momentous knighting Brienne is going to be, Tormund feels it too and stands even though he doesn’t understand why. The emotion and emphasis Jaime puts in “defend the innocent” when his whole life he’s been judged for doing exactly that by killing the Mad King. This scene was GoT at its finest

This scene was SO GOOD. When he's charging her with her duties as a Knight, you realize she's been the truest Knight in all the Seven Kingdoms this whole time. Maybe the last real Knight left. The way she looks to Pod, who she's learned to trust. When she says she doesn't want to be a Knight, and he gives her a look like "don't lie". Then when she looks back at him, and he gives a nod like "this is really happening, and no one here is going to laugh at you". Everyone in that room has total respect for her. But she's still a little hesitant because she's been hurt so many times. And when's it done, they all cheer for her out of genuine respect and happiness, and she finally allows herself to be happy and overcome. This scene was easily the best thing to come out of the later seasons, maybe the best thing out of the whole show. I always come back to this scene when I want to revisit how good this show was, once upon a time.

All of the best knights in the story were not true knights. Brienne, the very epitome of knightly virtue, cannot be a knight because she is a woman. Sandor Clegane, a brutal and murderous beast of a man who despises knights, is nonetheless a better defender of the weak than most, and Jaime Lannister who clearly broke his vows nonetheless embodies more true knightly virtues than almost any other (he saved hundreds of thousands of lives at the cost of his honour). It's a beautiful deconstruction and reconstruction of what a chivalric knight is.

Its sad knowing for Jaime in his heart his last truly chivalrous moment for himself was the day he earned his knighthood this was an extremely emotional moment for him and to then give it to someone he deems to be truly worthy of the honor of the title of knight because Brienne clearly showcases all the values knights are supposed to honor is extremely compelling

You can totally see it in her expression that she thinks she's once again being mocked by men for wanting to be a warrior and as she looks around expecting it to be just another cruel joke but then you can see it dawning on her as she looks at Jaime once more and realises that actually no... No this isn't a joke at her expense - That moment when she realises you can see it in her expression and after she's knighted, the sheer joy and happiness is just beautiful.
