Japan will become the first nation after the United States to land an astronaut on the moon as part of the #artemis lunar exploration campaign under an agreement between the two countries announced April 10.
At an event in Washington, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson and Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) Masahito Moriyama signed an agreement regarding an additional Japanese contribution to Artemis, a pressurized lunar rover called Lunar Cruiser.
#NASA will deliver the rover to the moon, which the agencies said should take place ahead of the Artemis 7 mission scheduled for no earlier than 2031. NASA will also provide two seats on future Artemis lunar landing missions to astronauts from the Japanese space agency JAXA, the first agency other than NASA to secure spots on landing missions.
Japanese astronaut to be the first non-American to set foot on the moon as part of NASA's Artemis missions.
Announcement made during President Biden's agreement with Japan, allocating two astronaut flight opportunities under the Artemis program.
Japan to develop a pressurized lunar rover for NASA's use, enhancing space cooperation between the two countries.
Artemis program aims to return humans to the moon for the first time in over 50 years, with plans for future missions to Mars.
Personal note about experiencing an earthquake in Japan, enjoying the trip, and appreciating the hospitality and culture of Japan.

Ellie, my wife and I climbed to the top of Mt. Fuji with our baby daughter on our backs. I served on the aircraft carrier Midway whose homeport was Yokosuka, Japan. It's correctly pronounced: Yokoskah with the accent on the second syllable. If you're able to climb Fuji, you'll never forget it.

This is news to me, thanks Ellie. Japan have been and still are huge contributors to the exploration of space, we just don't hear about it as much. Personally, Kyoto would be interesting to see as it is the historical capitol and a cultural center. Japan has great food. Hope you have a great time and make lots of memories ! Have a safe trip back home.

Japan ant the people are great, were there last year for too short a time! Been in Tokyo & Kyoto and will come back to see more. In Kyoto, you should have visited Bar Fishbowl ... If you two get the chance visit beautiful Mount Mitake and Shinto shrine, as well as the beautiful scenery. Be sure to pack light, be on time for the cable car to the small town, some walking involved 😉 And book at least two nights in Komodori Sanso, friendly 18th generation owners and hot Onsen bath! Konbanwa!

I found things to collect while in the Far East to be wooden items, like chess sets and small furniture. Mail it home! Also look at the puzzles and other non-plastic items. Puzzle boxes are an art form! Sometimes kitchen knives can be a good deal, if you know what you are looking at. If you want to get homesick, take a trip over to South Korea! That country will drive you up the wall. They wouldn't exist without us, but they hate us to the ends of the Earth! This is the same issue I found in France.

Now, when your data has been scrubbed, will it "newly" harvested every 30 days and reposted again? BTW it seems that the USPS sells listings of all the permanent address changes they are given. Maybe, maybe not, but it gets online oddly fast.😢

Maybe we all need to think about how we describe who's getting to go, so it doesn't sound like a tokenism thing for a female and PoC astronaut getting to go to the Moon. Everyone going has to work hard to be considered for the positions, and will be going on merit.

China may beat the US to the Moon in the coming decade. Starship is nowhere near ready to land people on the Moon. If you look at the Chinese Moon mission, it looks very similar to the Apollo program. This is because it's simple, and it works. The US should just rebuild the lunar lander and make improvements to it. Use the lunar lander as a base and build off of it.

What is DEI? I just looked it up. Like a race quota? I feel like there's plenty of qualified astronauts in every country with each having niche attributes. It's weird that they have to make race and sex a thing instead of just deciding a guy that has insane expertise that would help for the part of the mission. Like a Geospatial engineer would have a ton of accessible memory to make an extraction or measurement run smoother because its second nature when you become a nerd.
