Awesome tutorial. Didn’t know that you could heat your acrylic comb in hot water. Thought they would crack if heating up continuesly. Thanks.

Hi Monique! Thanks so much for the kind words. Glad you liked the tutorial! Definitely don't put your acrylic cake supplies in the dishwasher, that heat is too much and can warp the acrylic. But very warm water for dipping the cake comb in works great! No warping or cracking.

I heard to do this more effectively, the cake should be cold. I never thought of doing it that way but it seems to have more precise corners and edges. ;)

Yes, we found it totally changed things when using a cold cake. Juli refrigerates the cake for at least 1 hour, then leaves it out for 10 minutes before using the combs like you see here. Let us know if you have any questions. Warmly, Rachel

Hi Eloisa, Thanks for the question. Juli refrigerates her cake for 1 hour, then lets it sit out on the counter for 10 minutes before using a cake comb. You can experiment with the length of time you're chilling your cake since icing recipes and refrigerator temperatures vary. If you think of any other questions, just let me know. - Rachel

Hi Eloisa, Thank you for the question. I'm sorry to say we've never worked with chantilly. But definitely experiment to find the best way for you. The buttercream you see in the video is Swiss Meringue Buttercream. Juli puts her cake in the refrigerator for 1 hour and then lets it sit out for 10 minutes before icing with Cake Combs. Yes, we find we get the best results when starting with a cold cake. It keeps the comb pattern nice and sharp, and without pesky air bubbles! We use Swiss Meringue Buttercream and refrigerate for about an hour, then let the cake sit out for 10 to 15 minutes before using the comb. Let us know how it works for you.
