In this video of the San Diego Jeep Club Project Build we rip out the entire interior to include the seats, carpet, center console and plastic moldings to make way for adding the LizardSkin Sound Control, Ceramic Insulation and Top Coat. The LizardSkin is going to help quiet the ride significantly and reduce heat inside the rig on those hot desert trail runs.

One note; When mixing, make sure to set the drill to REVERSE. The mixing paddle is designed to flow in a way as to not damage the particles that provide the sound dampening. Setting the drill to REVERSE allows proper, damage free mixing. This info comes straight from LizardSkin.

I used LizardSkin tape on my baseball bat in high school, I had no idea that they made this type of stuff. That's pretty neat.

"Lizard Skins" is a different company than "LizardSkin" that produces this insulation. I use their handlebar tape on my bike. Great stuff.

The reason "bed liner floor" got popular in the first place was it's cheap to do. This shit costs more than nice, molded vinyl floors! Wayyyyy more time consuming too. If it was 100 bucks or so, sure, but at that price no freaking way. Great job on the quality install though.

austin myers this is different then the traditional bedliner, you do not get the hard/scratch resistant shell, you do get a significant decrease in road noise. I am taking it out to the desert this weekend and looking forward to seeing the hard work results!

That looks really good. Might try this on my Jeep. I hadn't even heard of lizard skin before this. A lot of guys around here have Line-X or something similar done to their interiors.

I had not either until I went to the BJ Auto Auction and several resto mods had it done. I researched it and thought it would work well with the build. It definitely reduces the road noise and heat coming from the floorboards. The end product is a softer material than the traditional liner, however you can add liner on top of the Lizard Skin product if you want.

Great job!! I plan to rip out the carpet and spray raptor liner in my JK interior floor soon, any ideas on how to hide the wiring after the job is done? I haven't seen a complete video on that yet. Thanks Joe

Having a "pit crew" (with a cute Mom) sure helps out when taking on a project that requires lots of labor. Paint work can be a lot more work than people think. That project makes me think about moving to San Diego and joining your club for a chance to win that rig! It's going to be awesome! Can't wait to see the rest of the goodies going in. After you put everything back together how are you managing the wires? That way as you load and unload your rig you’re not chewing up your wiring. I just got an 2018 recon and hate carpet as a whole so looking into options and this is a great tut. I’m really interested in your wiring covering/management/safety.

I know it's been forever since this came out. But, it's not difficult to remove the shifter knobs from wranglers. It's just pulling upward as you are twisting it left & right continuously. It'll pop right off quick.

Jody Newell keep in mind that the LiazardSkin is not a replacement for the traditional "bedliner". LizardSkin is meant to reduce the sound and the heat transfer into the cab. In this it has done great so far. The finished product, while it is durable, is still a bit pliable. You can put a traditional bedliner on top of it if you want to harden the surface. Hope that helps.

curious how this turned out, i'll search to see if the part two 'results' video is out, i wanted to do something like this as i am a quiet freak, after you sprayed, it dried, i would have loved to see dynamite applied. as well bet that would be amazing once the interior is already apart... natch you'd have to have a place to leave it till it totally dries cures. i think jeep should have that spray from factory or at least an option

Great video... I love all of your insightful videos. Do you think the sound control is worth it if you topless most of the time? I have a TJ with no carpet and I’m either topless or bikini top 100% of the time. I’m going to use the CI for the heat and I’m just wondering if it’s worth the extra $200 to sound deaden as well. Clearly not a quick weekend garage project. I'm sure it's great stuff, but I normally have the doors and top off, so something this involved is not worth it to "deaden the sound and heat" imho. Great video never the less, thanks for posting.

Ya, for the work involved I don’t find this worth it. Most of the noise from Jeeps doesn’t come from the bottom shell anyways.

Well how'd it work? Before and after Db testing would be ideal. That's a ton of work if it only makes a small difference. I think most of the noise and heat comes in through the top and windows.

Jeffrey Samples I can tell you already that the sound control is living up to its expectation. Just me closing the doors I can hear a difference in the cab. I'm taking it out to the desert this weekend so looking forward to a quieter and cooler ride!

I’m debating whether to remove the sound proof material off the body of the Jeep or keeping it. I’ve noticed it’s quite hidden in this video once the bed-liner was applied.

I know this might be a dumb question but I’m new to the Jeep world. But can you reinstall the carpet after you apply the LizardSkin coating? I like the sound deadening/heat protection but I prefer to have the carpet.

How much material did you end up spraying? Did you need the full 2 gallons of each the Si and Ci or would the 1 gallon buckets be enough to properly coat a JKU? I'd like try and save a couple bucks and not have half used buckets of the material if possible. Thanks

it says 2 gal covers 45-50 sqft...a 2 door jeep is aprox 38 sq ft

Any idea how to remove the rear inside plastic panels? The panels on each side of the tail gate. Some Jeeps have a sub woofer in that area but mine does not.

When removing the tape, i see that it doesnt peel like it does with paint. I assume a razor is needed to get a good crisp line?

After watching them take the seat out, I definitely think you need to talk to other "Jeeping" people and find an engineer and see if you can design seats that are easy to remove and insert. I had a Ford Aerostar van and the back seats were easy to remove. So the actual design is there and all that is needed is for it to be adapted to the Jeep. Now get to it sailor!

Bedliner and Lizardskin are 2 separate products. The lizardskin is a softer product, which makes it soak up the heat and the sound better. They say you can add bedliner over top of it for a more durable surface. I have left it as is and have not had any issues so far. Hope this helps!

Great vid guys! Did you get all of the stock interior trim back in? I watched the seat install and saw some of the wires exposed and didn't know if you left it out for the install or not. I love the idea of this product but would want to retain some of the wire hiding trim pieces in the door thresholds etc.

CMad919 I have yet to put the trim pieces back in since we had been working on the seats and other interior items. I will be getting all of the interior back to factory within the next week or two.

You can hide wiring, if not putting carpet back in, by covering with peel & stick Dynomat type product, before spraying product.

If you really wanted a before and after of the sound dampening why didn't you do a decimal test and before and after of the heat coating it would temperature test before and after
