I really like vibe with what you said "anything worth doing is worth doing badly at first" I would never think this way in my early 20's. I would avoid the "embarrassment" of trying something new and being bad at it. Now that I'm nearly 30 If i would have just started on those things by now I'd be good at it or atleast competent enough to be excited about it.

This really resonated with me. From a young age, my mother was very invested in the idea of the self help industry. Our house had countless personal development books, and while I have gleaned many useful learnings, I have also used an obsession with self help to avoid real action. Throughout the years, many passions have fallen to the wayside and I find myself fixated on processes and optimization, rather than investing in my own happiness and quality of life which is what truly matters. This video was very inspiring for me, as I am embarking on much needed reflection towards who I want to be. Thank you Jennifer

yes, I feel just as you did. Roller-blading, swimming, riding a bike, applying to places and asking for help...how many things did I not pursue because I was afraid of failure or rejection..One more thing I have learnt is you cannot do it on your own, its okay to ask for help.
@JenniferMyers
@JenniferMyers 4 жыл бұрын
Asking for help is something I have had to condition myself to practice. I'm awful at it still lol. I am getting better, though. I can't receive support if I don't ask for it when I need it! I don't know why it's so hard...well, no, that's a lie lol...I think it's because I don't want to burden someone else with my issues, number one, and number two, I feel like I should be able to do things myself. But there is a Chinese proverb that says "even monks can't shave their own head." ...which I think speaks for itself. I need to remind myself!

Many of us do stand in our way often. The hardest thing is realizing that is what we are doing to ourselves. Once we do something about it and start the work, we start living a better, freer and happier life. Easier said than done. You must be so proud of yourself. Especially at a young person. We truly embrace who you have become. As a viewer we can’t get enough of your sharing. We are growing with you. This is what the world needs Sending out kindness. I hope love and kindness will spread far and far ❤️🙏
@JenniferMyers
@JenniferMyers 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Domi!! Worthwhile things, in my experience, are often (if not always) especially simple but far from easy! And knowing what to do almost makes it WORSE lol because one has to be ready and willing and able and...stable! It's all about timing and knowing oneself. In life, knowing yourself and what you want, why you want it, and who you are -- this will take you far. For me, what has impacted me the most positively is cultivating my sense of myself. I feel like superwoman on a good day, because I know what Jennifer is all about.

Wow. This spoke volumes to me.. I'm currently 20 years old, and an aspiring singer/songwriter. It took me SO long to start writing my first song from when I initially had the idea. Even now, it's not completed yet. The part where you spoke about how you would avoid doing things due to the fear of doing them "badly" resonated with me so much. I've spend weeks, months, remaining stagnant due to the fear of doing things badly. I know the lesson I need to learn, and I know where I need to start in moving forward. Thank you so much for this video! It has inspired me to let go of that fear as anything worth doing is surely worth doing badly! Thank you so much, again.
@JenniferMyers
@JenniferMyers 4 жыл бұрын
Hey, Tash. Oh man...if you only knew how many YEARS (years) I spend stagnant and stuck in my literal own way. I was afraid, ultimately, of responsibility and success (as I mentioned)...because it involved a lot of undue pressure I was putting on myself to succeed -- ironically enough. I wanted it so badly that the thought of it and the process of getting to that point...just the entire thing, it crippled me and I couldn't do anything. That was the worst and darkest place I've been in. Letting go of fear and surrendering to the unknown is the key, but of course; easier said than done.

I know you might feel uncomfortable from time to time ect but you're so different and inspiring and VERY grounded...you have great truths in you that are important and worth knowing and we're blessed as a KZfaq community to have you (as I am sure many others in your life, of course!). @JenniferMyers

The only duty you have is to yourself. You must cultivate your strong sense of self (easier said than done, I realize) and not look to outside opinions or comparisons to others to validate you. If you self examine and understand who you are, what you want in life and why you want those things, and the type of person you are, etc...if you know these things on a deep, intimate level, you will always be ok. That's where true confidence comes from; is knowing WHO YOU ARE and what you're all about! Good luck, Paula. You will be just fine; more than fine!

I just turned 20 a couple months ago this video is literally bring tears to my eyes because I’m the exact same way you described yourself in your 20s I have this very unrealistic persona I’m trying to achieve and extreme anxiety of failure . Self improvement has become a toxic obsession ,it literally consumes most of my time and it’s so exhausting .its very difficult for me to be in the moment I always feel like I’m not read .

Can you give advice or talk about how to deal with heartbreak and letting go of a relationship? I'm in my 20's and had my first real detrimental heartbreak. To the point where I needed to get help. Mental help because of how traumatic things were and how they ended.

I loved this video...I'm trying really hard not to be intimidated about the idea of failing in something and also be free not paying so much atention on the others opinions about me because one feeds the other...I'm turning 29 next month!💜

Paula I felt the same way when I was younger. Now, I feel it’s better to try and fail than to have regrets And I always think, what other people think about me, is non of my business 😜

Happy early birthday! I know it's easier said than done, but never look to others' opinions about you for validation. You mustn't concern yourself with what people who don't matter think of you, because if you do, then you'll never cultivate a true sense of yourself (as you'll always be basing your emotional quotient on others' feedback -- be it positive OR negative). Cultivate your sense of self - know who you are, what you want and why, and so on -- and you'll be set. (Once again, I know it's easier said than done!) I'll be 38 in less than 5 months, and I've been in the best place in my life so far. I look forward to getting older!

Hi Jennifer, a book that has helped me a lot with the fear of failure (though still dealing with it haha) is 'Clothes Clothes Clothes Music Music Music Boys Boys Boys' by Viv Albertine.

I was born with this face, though (I didn't do anything to "get" it, in other words). I'm a slim person, so that may be why, too.

I was wondering how you keep your teeth so white? I don't think pearly whites are a must at any cost (bleaching) but I also often drink black tea and would like to know if you know of any more natural ways of whitening the teeth other then brushing and flossing?
