Nah man. There's totally GMs who are scared to make a mistake and come off as lazy versus GMs who are scared to not make the Cup the final and come off as hyper aggressive.

What's not disappointing is that the Leafs kept their first round pick, Minton, and Cowan. With very little top picks/Prospects in the system you can't deplete them all just for a rental. Brad was smart to keep them while getting a solid 3rd/4th line c/w who is good on face offs, and on the pk. While rounding out the defense with players who can clear the front of the net, stop the cycle and play on the pk. Good deadline overall considering what Brad traded away.

27:20 To Adam's point about the penalty kill. minor penalties have been historically called MORE in the playoffs despite everyone always saying otherwise. so they absolutely needed to improve the PK, and I think they did that.

@dolandarkxgrandayy6953 The argument there is Boosh isn't a top 2 dman, he's not the best or second best defenseman on this team. He's not a Makar, a Dobson, Pietrangelo, Parayko, Trouba etc etc etc. The leafs are a team made up of 5/6/7th dmen and Brad brought in two more at the trade deadline, while loosing one to waivers, when the need was an elite top pairing guy.

It wasn't going to happen this trade deadline, but we need star defenceman since a decade ago. Rielly is a 2nd or 3rd best defenceman on any other top NHL teams. Where would you put Rielly on Vegas defence core? 2nd or 3rd pairing? Hes our #1? He is horrible on defence, its sad.

Glad they didn't sell in order to buy just because it is the trade deadline, if they're going to move someone like him or Robertson I'd prefer into be a hockey trade instead of a pure rental for 20 ish games

"They get it and figure it out..." In relation to why certain teams like Vegas, Tampa, and Florida are able to sign and trade players. Really? You don't think the allure of their taxes, cost of living, and location factor into why they are able to sign players more easily than the Leafs? Every Canadian team was shut out of this trade deadline because the CRA is going after JT's income. It is inane to forget to mention these factors. This stuff matters! The GM's are NOT playing on a level field.

Canadian Teams have played 10,268 games in the salary cap era. US Teams have played 34,480 games. the US teams get, on average, four more points every-single-season.

Guys Another angle to consider is that not only do a pile of players not want to play in canada they even more specifically dont want to play in toronto... and ill even go as far as to say that some owners and management may not want to deal with toronto, or help toronto improve. Maybe it is harder for a toronto manager to make deals due to this? ...just a thought.

Yeah that was a bad take. Nobody in Calgary cares about Mitten or values him. Anderson was not available. To pry him out you would need at least 2 firsts and your best prospect. Top pair D don’t grow on trees and the Flames are now super thin on D.

It's not too far away. All their best players are approaching their mid 30s. They've got this year and maybe next year before it implodes. They have no prospects of any worth due to trading all their picks almost every year.

The Hertl move is astonishing. A very solid 2nd line center under contract for 7 years with salary retained and all it cost was the equivalent of 2 first round picks (and late first rounders at that). Plus you get 2 thirds back. That's a steal. I'm shocked that every team in the league wasn't lining up to try and make that deal happen. Maybe Hertl was using is NMC to restrict the market there but it feels like they should have gotten way more.

I don’t have a problem with the Leafs not going crazy at the deadline. The team has been inconsistent all year. They struggle defensively. As a result, I don’t see them as a serious contender for the cup. Why waste resources?

May i ask what did you expect the leafs to do? top 5 powerplay and offence. Bottom 10 in the league in pk and defensive stats. They acquired defence, and pk'ers. Making a weakness stronger

I really thought we should of tried to get something out of Robertson, I don’t see him fitting into the future of this team and barely cracks a spot rn why not use him to get a defensive piece we need whether it’s RD or defensively sound forward. Especially with the returns other teams got, I don’t see how we couldn’t get something for him

I’m not mad at the deadline. He didn’t really have a lot to work with in terms of assets. You gotta give treliving til the year after Tavares contract is up, by then he will have some assets and cap to play with and hopefully guys like Robertson, Minten and Cowan are able to make the jump in between then and now. That will be the season treliving can really go for it

Yes, the Las Vegas Golden Knights have figured it out by trading away all of their 1st round picks since 2017 except for one, Brandon Brisson. They did win a Stanley Cup, so it was worth it. They might win a 2nd Cup.

The real thing to think about with Vegas at this deadline... even if they do miss the playoffs, they now have their top three centers and top 3 d-men locked in for the rest of their window. Eichel/Hertl/Karlsson and Petro/Hanafin/Theodore

Why? He got bent over a barrel on the Hanifan and Tanev trades. To me it looks like he was more interested in dealing those 2 to teams that might play the Oilers in the playoffs than in getting the maximum return. Didn't get an A+ prospect for either of them, and all the picks are going to be late round picks. Hanifin only got you a late 1st, a late 3rd and some washed up 26 year old D prospect? That trade is garbage, for real

For an expiring 1st line winger, 2nd line center, 2 X 3-4 Dmen, and a 5-6 Dman, all of whom couldn’t/wouldn’t resign Conroy got: A younger first line winger - Sharangovich has been phenomenal and has dipped lately only because he’s transitioning to center as we don’t have any. A top 6 winger - Kuzy is scoring at a 40 goal pace again since his arrival. 3 D prospects that project anywhere from 3-7 on the depth chart and address an organizational need. A D prospect (Brzustewicz) that shoots right, is 19, had nearly a point per game in his draft year and over a point per game this year in the OHL. Who projects as a 2-3 guy. 2 firsts 2 seconds 5 thirds 2 of which are conditional and could be seconds 1 5th Not to mention how great Greer and Pachal have looked as waiver wire pickups. Hopefully Hanley can be as good. All for guys that weren’t going to be here anymore. Not saying Every trade was a slam dunk but I think overall, in his rookie year, Conny has shown he can do a better than average job as GM.

Wotherspoon was NHL ready for the ast 5 years in the Isles system. Islanders NEVER give players chances unless they get blown out of the water. There are at least 4 more Wotherspoon level players in the Isles dev system...Leafs should take a look. Most of them are in the Mayfield Mold except for Salo and Cholowski (yeah, he's still around)

Leaf's are actually trending into the underrated category even by our own fanbase. We're not an undisputed cup contender like Colorado, Florida or Vegas but the discounting of what this team can do in it's current form is getting out of hand. Why is Carolina poised for a run but the Leafs are not despite playing almost identical (statistical) hockey? I get that we have the worst division in hockey but the obsessive hate is getting really old.

I really disagree that Tre should've done more at the deadline. Vegas's GM has the easiest job in the world right now. They're playing with house money. They have a blank check to do anything and everything to win again. And if it doesn't work, eh who cares they won anyway. Vegas is not a model. But you'll say, well Vegas spent a lot in prior year's trade deadlines too. And I think that was an easy decision as well. Why? Because they assembled one of the best core of playoff performers in the league. Their first crack it at they make the Final. If that was our core on the Leafs, I'd be saying hell yeah, let's spend all our assets we need to win now. But they have never been elite in the playoffs, and the Vegas core is elite every time in the playoffs. Brad said the answer has to come from the room and I 100% agree with him. It doesn't matter if we get Rasmus Andersson or Noah Hanifin or whoever if the core is ineffective in the playoffs and that happens way too often. They need to figure it out if we're gonna win, and I don't fault Brad for thinking this ain't the year.

It's been 6 years since Edmundson was in St louis and 4 years ago when he went on his cup run. Too many people living in the passed. He is not good anymore. And is going to get a penalty or suspension game 1 for sure.

When will these guys understand that Stuart Skinner has the most wins in the NHL since the coaching change, has a solid .916sv% which is the same as Jeremy Swayman and better than guys like Demko and Ullmark. They don't need a goalie unless it's someone to upgrade on Pickard, which is obviously not Ullmark's role. Plus the rumour was that it was LA.

7:40, you mention Dumba a right-handed Dman being traded for next to nothing, yet don't address why Leafs wouldn't trade for him. Dumba a right-handed Dman went for a 5th-rounder with a 7th-rounder coming back. Wouldn't a 3rd and 5th be better spent on Dumba (who would immediately become your best right-hand Dman), be a better option than Edmundson?
