In this heartfelt video, I share a candid conversation with all the amazing moms who are preparing to welcome their second or third baby and feeling a bit anxious about the journey ahead. Filmed while getting ready for my daughter’s 9th birthday, this video feels like a chat with a close friend. I dive into some common fears, such as:
Will I be able to handle this?
Will I miss my first baby?
How will I care for a son when I already have a daughter?
Am I ready for this change?
How will my first baby cope with this major shift?
What if my first baby doesn't like the new baby?
Can I love my second baby as much as my first?
I provide encouragement and comfort on these topics and more, offering support from my own experiences

I can't describe how important this video is for mom's who have anxiety or fears with having babies after their first !! i am saving this for when i'm postpartum with baby #2 (due in 2 months) and will be sending this video to any other moms who are expecting another baby. thank you for making this video ❤i don't have many mom friends and all my closest friends do not have kids so this is the exact thing i needed to hear coming from another *experienced* mom. thank you.

Wow thank you so much! That's exactly what I hoped this video would feel like - a friend reminding you of all of the reasons why this is going to be so good! If you want to join my group coaching program for moms due in August or September it begins this Friday, July 5th and we get a lot of second time parents in it. Or if you want to join our online community Very Good Mothers Club, the people are so great and we meet via zoom every Tuesday. You can also just post in our forum for encouragement or tips. Most of the moms in there joined before having their second baby :) No pressure at all but just wanted you to know that it's a great way to make mom friends! So much love to you and your family!

I had my second 6 months ago. The transition is SO MUCH easier from 1 to 2 kids than 0 to 1. Becoming a mother is so hard, it turns your life upside down. Having a second is just more of the same, it's been no big deal honestly 😅 It's 1000% worth it, I love my babies so much and seeing them make each other laugh is just the best feeling ❤

The seasonal memory thing happens to me too. My daughter was due the end of January. I had a tough first half of my pregnancy. I didn’t start feeling better till 20-25 weeks which was in the fall. So when the chill comes in the air and the leaves turn colors and I’m on a walk around the neighborhood I feel the memory of starting to feel good enough to get out walking again. The warm comforting fall and early winter meals remind me of the comfort I found in being able to eat and enjoy food again. It’s just a warm snuggly cozy time of year that reminds me of cocooning in my nest with my wife and my pregnant belly and then with our new baby. It’s hard to describe this kind of memory it has a physical imprint on my soul the way other memories don’t. The closest non pregnancy related scenario I can compare it to is when I returned to the country I lived in from ages 3-8 for the first time in 25 years and I stood outside of my old school and it was like a flash back in the movies where when I saw a runner out of the corner of my eye I thought it was my elementary school principal’s close family friend who used to go for a run everyday after school go out. I expected the bike coming down the street I be my mom riding to pick my brothers and into from school. It has a physically transporting you back to a moment in time element.

I just had baby #3 6 weeks ago (I have 2&3 year olds as well). It is hard but each week is getting easier. Could you do a video on potty training a toddler that’s strong willed and refuses to go?

I just had my third (three under three!) and I definitely had more anxiety this time around than the first or second time. But of course, now that he's here i wouldn't have it any other way 🥰

That was such a great video! This was a sweet gift. Thanks Jessica for taking the time to speak such wisdom into a complex life situation. You're truly an important voice to parents. I'm living a full and happy life with a two year old basketball loving boy and a six month old social girl. It's the best, and what a journey!

Perfect timing. I’m expecting my second baby and am so excited & grateful, but also nervous cause I can’t imagine how I could possibly split my love & attention and juggle both! Thank you for the real, honest, chill reassurance and perspective 😊

I was worried about loving both children. I just couldn't imagine how "the love/heart grows". Our first born came to visit us in the hospital to meet his sister for the first time. He walked over to her and I realized that I felt the same way about both children already. It wasn't anything "growing", just that the love for your child feels the same no matter how many you have. It is it's own special thing :)

Watching this and sobbing hysterically. Yes, I happen to be pregnant with baby #2, so it could be hormones. But how did you know I was feeling all this lurking, ever-present existential dread? I similarly decided to “wing it” with my firstborn, still basking in newlywed bliss and naive optimism almost 3 years ago. I told myself the same thing, “we’ll figure it out! This is the most natural thing ever! Yay so excited!” How was I supposed to know that I’d need to “figure out” my marriage taking an absolute nosedive, my professional performance completely tanking, everyone who I thought would be my “support system” suddenly disappearing? The hardest thing about becoming a mom, believe it or not, was how shitty my life in the periphery became. When I look at my happy, beautiful toddler, I feel like a sadomasochist thinking I’d do it all over again just for the sake of his existence and the love that explodes out of my heart for that kid, but MAN was it rough. I am so scared for how “bad” my life is going to get again with my beautiful baby girl due in a few months, but weirdly I know it is so worth it at the same time? It’s the weirdest mind eff of all time and it’s been really keeping me up at night.

I feel exactly the same way. My two year old just turned three. I want to have another, she wants a sibling, my husband wants another, yet there is this existential dread for all of the reasons that you listed out.
