His sponsors care about viewers, the 1.68 million who watch his show every night. If they don't like his content, they don't buy advertising time on his show. He was asked by the network to tone down his trump content, but he didn't tone it down. He knows that he makes a lot of money for the network. His is the second highest earning late night show, just after Stephen Colbert!
