Connecting Lex Luthor to the 3 of them is a clever narrative hook, specially because Jimmy and Lois have a bigger role than in other adaptations.

My guess for Lex and Lois would be: Logic vs Emotion. Lex is an extremely logical person to the point that he forsakes emotion most if not all the time. When he is not being egotistical, of course. Lois on the other hand is known to be empathetic and understanding. Using her emotions as a moral support. So I think they might go with that angle.

To me I do see Lex as a Foil to Jimmy as Jimmy built his legacy honestly and with hardwork well Lex blames everyone around him and fail to see due to working with Ivo would make other uneasy to trust him despite those around him not offering a chance to prove himself showing Lex as a warning to what Jimmy could turn into if he fail to see his own flaws and people not offering him a chance

This scene makes me wish they hadn't confirmed that Alex was Luthor in the trailer. Stuff like having him wear green and purple and being interrupted before he can tell Jimmy his last name _could have been_ clever foreshadowing, but because the reveal was already spoiled, it feels kind of goofy. Anyway, I think it's safe to say this is one act of kindness Jimmy's going to regret. EDIT: Before anyone else replies to tell me that Alex being Luthor was already obvious, please read my response to Zekromium below.

It was nice to see Lex getting called out about how he built the Parasite suit that Ivo used to go on rampage in Metropolis; he needed that kick in the pants after his comment to Vicki Vale about how Superman ruining Ivo's company and putting people out of work when it wasn't even Superman's fault that Ivo was crazy.

Then we See Alex showing that his new project was just what the public would see and that they are actually 10 times more deadly than what he showed Jimmy.
