Jiu Jitsu vs Boxing, what is the best for Self Defense? Both are great sport and I would recommend training and practicing both for fitness but for self defense I would confidently recommend boxing. In fights, with boxing you could face multiple attackers while jiu jitsu you can focus on dealing with 1 enemy only.

Just curious, you talk about boxing for health and fitness ... and then mention brain damage. Perhaps you might want to clarify that disconnect a little? Now, I assume you are referring to the brain damage that results from hard, competitive boxing. However, this is all relative, is it not? Could not an unathletic, recreational boxer subject himself to blows that, overtime, could be just as debilitating as an athlete experiences at a competitive level?

Bit of both is the best, but in a self-defense situation I'd rather have good boxing and a blue belt in BJJ than an black belt and shit boxing. Last thing you want to do is go be mounting a guy and having his buddy start soccer kicking your head. Being able to move effectively with footwork and jab will defuse most self-defense situations without needing to hit a single leg. Especially when there may be more than one aggressor.

Another thing no one told me when I was younger and found out the hard way later, is how bad having a messed up tmj/jaw sucks. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I found out after going to the ER with a pulse of 180 thinking I was having a stroke because of how bad my head hurt. After ruling out all neurological issues, the neurosurgeon says, hold on, have you had your jaw checked out? I said no, I've been meaning to though because it has popped a lot after I injured it in a muay thai tournament. He says, well I think we just figured it out. When you've had injuries to your jaw, it can cause inflammation to spring up almost randomly later on in life. In short, your head swells up. But, there's not really anywhere for this pressure to go, and builds up in your face, head, and neck. It presses on the nerves to these areas and causes all sorts of fun. Stuff like, your ears will ring nonstop while at the same time being so sensitive to loud noises you lose your balance if you're around them. Your eyes can get blurry and also very sensitive to light. You'll have random spasms that will cause your jaw to snap shut where you just have to hope you don't bite your tongue or cheek when it happens. You'll grind your teeth so bad they'll chip or fall out if you don't sleep with a night guard all the time. And, you'll basically have the worst migraines that exist, they just don't go away for weeks or months at a time. There's no real treatment besides medication, physical therapy, orthotics, and surgery if all else fails. Like I said, it just flat out sucks. Meds help. But, they're also so heavy that you'll sleep twice as much as before and not be productive whenever taking them.

i wouldnt even say 1v1 tbh. The average bjj guy has such shocking takedowns they won't even get near the boxer, especially when they realise the boxer is trying to take their head off every time they get within a meter of them. It's like trying to get near a venomous snake. Wrestling on the other hand, maybe. I say this a blue belt in bjj who loves the sport.

Jocko said it right, you can run away in almost any striking situation. If they grab you, you can't run and you had better know how to grapple. BJJ for self defense is not inverted heel hooks and tirangles (necessarily), it's getting back to your feet if you end up on the floor and getting out of dodge.

Even a black belt against someone untrained would take 20 seconds. But you cant take down two people. Boxing you can end a fight quick. I double legged someone in a pub fight once and got dragged off my everyone. I was really annoyed. Whereas in my younger mental days id gotten into several fights and just whacked someone with no technique and did more damage and felt more safe.

One on one- often the best fighter of the day wins, regardless of training. Best bet is to learn situational awareness (like reading shadows and ambient light patterns). Or just avoid bad situations altogether if possible, which is sadly becoming more difficult in today's world. Last, I have mad respect for anyone willing to get in a ring. It takes a special breed.

Man I watch your vids for almost 3 y. Sorry for never leaving a like bc that would ruin my mysic playlist. Just wanted to leave a big THANK YOU!!! You're one of not many guys on YT who gives good advice. Basically you say same things as my trainer but in a more complete way(my coach has a little language barrier) so it feels like you explain to me why my coach makes me do certain things!! God bless you champ!!!!

here's the thing, from the standpoint of who would you normally encounter on the street and time to become competent enough to defend yourself it's got to be boxing. the point is to disable the attacker(s) as fast as possible and boxing does that. the only thing boxing doesn't really touch on is multiple attackers. big up to jujitsu though.

The jiu jitsu nerds are triggered 😂 truth is striking is more intuitive to learn and after 6 month’s training you could keep yourself safe in almost any realistic situation. If you spam jiu jitsu you have no concept of range, getting hit, footwork, fighting under pressure or striking defense. Striking quickly teaches you fundamentals of self defence that jiu jutsu just won’t

Depends, in most fights usually it goes to the ground or a clinch where jujitsu shines. I did wrestling in highschool and i used to get into alot of fights many were with boxers and i always managed to close the gap and take the fight down. I took kickboxing years down the line then trained some jujitsu as well. 1 on 1 id take a grappling over striking any day but id rather have boxing when theres a risk of people jumping in which happens alot when you take somebody down

@@thrash208 "most fights go to the ground" - when untrained people fight. You think a boxer will try to brawl?
@thrash208
@thrash208 Жыл бұрын
@@Kapito13 well i actually said "clinch or ground" ive never seen a boxing match that didnt have a clinch in it. A boxer in the streets knows better but at the same time wrestlers and BJJ practitioners train in closing the distance. If theyre close enough to land a punch youre close enough to shoot in. Every fight ive been in (yes even with a couple boxers one golden glove finalist) has been basically the same, feint a jab so they close their guard and back up a bit or better yet they try to counter and i shoot. Ive been punched (in fights not sancioned competition) maybe 4 times all glancing blows usually from an attempt to counter wile im shooting or trying to bodylock. And a good BJJ school like the one i went to also teaches some striking as well.

@@thrash208 I agree grappling is generally overpowered unless you get outnumbered. But also as I mentioned boxing has its own advantages over grappling which people ignore. I would personally prefer grappling for 1v1 if I could only choose one
@thrash208
@thrash208 Жыл бұрын
@@Figgy636 i understand what your saying and agree for the most part, but in BJJ (grappling sports in general) they do teach range and footwork its just a different goal one is to land a punch and the other is to shoot and or maintain control. The distance boxers typically stand (out of range at a "safe" distance) is actually in range to shoot in for a single and if youre close enough to land a punch or even step into a punch youre in range for a double and or body lock. This catches boxers off guard because they think they are safe, Every fight ive been in (which is more than im proud of) has been thr same and that goes for untrained and boxers and thats feint a punch change levels and shoot boxers sometimes try to counter which actually works better if thry back up out of shooting range then i just change back levels before following through a shoot. I love boxing i love the sport and its utility to self defwnce but boxers often over estimate their capabilities against grspplers. I cannot tell you how many times ive hear "id just throw an uppercut when they try to take me down and its lights out(this prompted one of my fights with a boxer)" or "id just pivot out of the way" wrestlers pivot and try to "get out of the way we drill it every day and we drill on changing directions on a shoot also somebody shooting in is alot faster than you think its also alot lower than an effective uppercut can land.

I train Muay Thai and Jui jitsu and i honestly agree with not going to the floor, I’d rather be on my feet but if it did go to the ground I’d like to be comfortable with scrambling and even handling the situation and determine if he can stand up or not after I do, I think it helps more for control in self defense, now if you really want control do wrestling, I wanna do that to make my Jui jitsu scary
