Out of 100; 100 shouldn't be there. There is one way to end all wars you know.. I can lead you all to these ideal measures; but I can't make you drink. Easily stop all talks of any war or military enforcement of any kind; from anyone; anywhere. Forever. It's usually called a warning of measures that shall be taken upon anyone ever mentioning anything about war to anyone and those same measures are to be also put upon everyone that has ever talked with this person; during their complete life; for not complying. Put this in place and nobody will ever be none complying; I assure you that everyone they know ; will make sure of that not happening. All you need is to create a group that comprises of two people from each country; whom all work on this together. Thank you.

My basketball coach used to say it like this. Every morning in Africa a gazelle wakes up and knows it has to run faster than the fastest lion or else it will be eaten. And every morning in Africa a lion wakes up and knows it has to run faster than the slowest gazelle or else it will starve. Do you know what that means? I don't, but when you wake up, you better be running.

Jocko's ability to lay out The Path as defined by the culmination of our collective knowledge and our well understood failures at all levels(from individuals to the entirety of the species) will be the foundation in which we rebuild our Country. Not only will they be integral to our personal successes, but will elevate us to global leaders in not just military prowess and might, but in manufacturing innovation as well as education. It's time to transgress the physical and mental sacrifices that are so heavily relied on by our economic and theological adversaries, and use our commitment to self and each other to preserve and strengthen that which makes our Country so great.

*woah, Echo*. The concept that you are comfortable with who, and what, someone actually is, and when that reality changes, rather than accept it, you resist it in order to keep them in that 'box' you have stuffed them in. That comfort zone has some pull. Then again, so does a rip tide. Fuckin' deep, buddy. I like it, and I underestimated you.

Just got done with 4 years in D1 college baseball. So much testosterone in the locker room. 25-30 guys. Many Type A individuals. You can feel the tension when someone tries to step up and lead. It's an awkward power struggle of ex-high school alphas. We settled on a type of collaborative leadership where no one guy was explicitly "The Leader". We did implement direction, initiatives, and goals. We came up short of a big goal of ours to win our conference tournament by one game. It was the furthest our college had ever got. But we were the first loser. Could officially electing a single "Team Captain" have contributed to a better result?

Service can be a large part of being on the path. Getting promoted to civilian can leave a person feeling like something is missing, even when work, school, relationships and health are progressing well. There are so many agencies and organizations that need help right now: from homeless shelters to hospitals, that it's easy to find something that gels well with interests and personality.

31:00 I agree with echos sentiment here. I think that mind-altering experiences are essential for creating good writing and artwork. Alcohol, however, is probably the worst choice possible for a mind altering experience. Things like meditation, spirituality, near-death experiences, learning an instrument or something challenging, and consuming other artwork will work thousands of times better. I think that this is the sentiment that echo was ultimately trying to make

The section on Financial Management is worth the listen alone. Managing your finances as both incoming and outgoing (vs. just focusing on income) is the key to success. I generally try to want less vs. thinking I need to earn more. Not discounting income, just pointing out there are two sides to the equation.

Great Podcast! I'm still listening but my comment is that I think maybe that semi-argument you guys got into can be very easily resolved. I'm talking about that first bit about one's thoughts, dreams, and IDEAS and where you discussed pro's and cons of doing it and getting it out there vs. some internal process of vetting and evaluation. Maybe a good "rule" at least for some of us is to always do at least do SOME follow up, somehow in some way, on each idea. Maybe once you begin to follow up and start to do SOMETHING then the new idea will take off and develop a life and momentum of it's own within your life and work, or maybe once you stop just thinking about it and start to actually DO it you will immediately see that it was not a good idea at all. This works for me because for every truly good idea I pursue to the end I also have about a hundred bad or mediocre ideas. And then sometimes I get off to a bad start and am tempted to give up but most of the time if it's REALLY a good idea some voice deep down keeps telling me to keep on trying. I'm not sure but I think this approach fits within Jocko's generally awesome philosophy and I will not be at all surprised if he has mentioned something like this in other podcasts. Thanks for all your great work! Regarding money I totally agree with everything you said and I would add that we each have a MORAL obligation to care about money. Unless you are totally isolated with no friends and no family or anybody that cares about you then you owe it to your friends and family and everyone who cares about you to take care of yourself fiscally so that they don't need to bail you out or worse yet stress and worry because they can't bail you out. Even if you ask them not to help you are still going to cause them a great deal of unhappiness if they have to watch you unravel to where you cannot take care of yourself. Even if you succeed in keeping them from helping they will still feel stress and guilt.

Jazz....I talk to other veteran teachers about this when we talk about how to talk to newer teacher. The longer you teacher, the more able you are to "play jazz" in class and riff when the situation calls for it. The intro topic sounds like the AF EPR system . The issue of supervisor discretion when doing these evaluations is the system itself can be inflated (firewall 5s for many) so while you might consider yourself being fair giving a 3-4 for a “good” worker , they look weak compared to others who had supervisors that gave 5s for “good” work . And promotions are impacted, people get frustrated, finances become a thing, etc . I personally am not a fan of this system . One good thing of civilian corporations is there is an actual bottom line (how much $ did you make us) and a bit more honest in reviewing performance. But working for anyone or any business, you ultimately are at the mercy of who’s above you .

Thank you for this code and podcast! Love the book and am using it to work towards improving myself. I am wondering how I might incorporate this or something like the Warrior Kid code to give some clear guidelines for my students to become better students and humans (I teach middle school science)? Thoughts on a specific code for the "eminently qualified student"? I'd like to give students a clear guide to help them set goals beyond "study harder" etc. But then again maybe it would be better to point them to the warrior kid code or eminently qualified human code rather than focusing just on the student part.
