With 12 days until the 5th Avenue Mile, Olympic 10,000m finalist Joe Klecker (On-Running) laces up for a mile specific workout consisting of 1600m, 1200m, 800m, 400m on the track followed by 4x400m on the road (2 slightly uphill, 2 slightly downhill).

One of my old teammates nailed a kid with a snowball after yelled that😂. There’s a middle school on one of our tempo routes so we hear at a lot.

I'm currently injured during my cross country season, and can only workout on the trainer. Watching these training sessions while cycling though has kept me fired up and motivated like nothing else so that I can keep cross-training and get back to running as soon as possible!

I do that because the low point is not in the middle so it helps to mix it up. Long down hills and steep uphill one direction and steep downhills and long grinding uphills in the other direction. :o)

yes and no. He overpronates a crazy amount but the rest is very sound.

Klecker’s 400 @ 61 after 1600, 1200, 800 and blowing out his hoop are faster than I will ever run a 400 on its own 😂

I myself am a graduate from the prestigious Platt Middle school, have wheeled the track multiple times, it's 5 meters short. Like seriously

I think that's because the 400m is measured 20cm away from the inner white line, on the straight there is no difference but on the turn there is

I did the math and it turns out that if you measure on the inner white line you can only get 1.26 meters error so the track at your school is built wrong

Curious to know how much total time they spend doing their warm-ups, drills, strides, etc.. before the start of the workout?

It’s probably close to 40 mins in total with 2-3 mile warm up + drills and stretching and strides and all that. Obviously depends on the workout but still

Is running on a dirt-ish/gravel trail like at the beginning of the video better for you for most of your milage? like bodywise to prevent injury etc.?

Is this training here part of an 80/20 training program or is it mostly Fartlek? The purpose of this channel is "about how the world's best athletes train and prepare for competition". If so, I don't see it being 80/20 at all unless the 80 is mostly off camera because it's boring. I'm not hearing enough about the actual program. I wonder if Fartlek is (or can be) a part of an 80/20 regime (?) Ive heard the word "Fartlek" a few times in some of these videos but I've never heard anyone say 80/20. I'm doing Fartlek myself for now (because of the number of hills on my trail) but I'm planning to move more to an 80/20 as I progress to longer and longer hike/runs. I'm retired so I have all day almost every day to train. Right now I'm nursing a mild plantar fasciitis . . . Ive had it one week but it feels much better today.

I don't think they can show their whole week of training, afterall its the the intellectual property of the coach, I doubt sweat elite wants to be sued or something 😂, but I believe he train ard that 80/20 rule
