It makes you wonder where it fell apart. My generation is often accused of being naive in the same regard. We typically eschew the idea of "us vs them" with regard to geopolitics. We are accused of being anti capitalist and too accepting of "socialism". We certainly have more acceptance of different gender roles and same sex marriage. If your generation believed this and it seems that ours does too, how did it not come to be?
@ssshadowwolf6762
@ssshadowwolf6762 4 жыл бұрын
Aaron Schooley I cant answer that . Some hippies became yuppies and once age , money etc came into play some forgot the message. There is a perception in this country if you don’t make it as well as the other guy did it’s your fault . Not the case . I think the minority of the elites never really lost control . Complacency also factors in . Some felt since the momentum was put into effect it would continue on its own . So many factors . Poverty stricken areas were flooded with drugs . People either coped self medicating or they hustled to make money . The money made in these areas was a lot more than a start up job . I think it was all subtle -until it wasn’t . And here we are again . We just KNEW the age of Aquarius had begun and peace and love was there for the having . When you begin to have families it’s easy to be distracted and you put your attention on them . We assumed too much . Complacency ( deliberate or unintentional) was taken advantage of . It was a perfect window . Materialism too . It’s killing my soul to see this . That said -we have more blended families than ever . We also live in a nation where 45% of its people didn’t vote . Humans don’t change without sacrifice unfortunately. You’d think we would have learned. All one need to is look at history back to ancient times . There were people my age back in the day against us too . We were divided . Money had a lot to do with that . A lot of hypocrisy as I recall re: rich kids parents. They put our music idols on FBI lists . All that “ peace, brotherhood, and love “ crap ! Why that was communist !🧐 They said my generation was destroying the American way of life . It’s all in our music as to who we were . A good portion of us never gave up the idea . We taught our kids and they theirs. The message is still there . We didn’t fail . We opened the doors and achieved a great deal . It’s just not idealized yet . Incredibly unfortunate. At the same time many my age senses this coming . De Ja Vu. Once you’ve been there you know the signs . You’ll see it often begin in music and movies btw . Once I began to hear these ideas I knew it was fixing to happen again . Almost 4 years ago I posted “ there will be people in the streets and this nation will explode “. I didn’t expect a virus . I did the rest . This is now global . Ordinary people in other countries are standing up to their govts and opposed to what’s happening here as well. We are seeking each other out . The world is so small and interconnected now there is no going back . People will die . We must however learn the truth of our own history. What I was taught as a kid were lies . The Victor writes history the way they see it . It’s falling apart now -all of those lies .

Imagine hearing on the radio that Kennedy was shot. That Vietnam had started, Kent students shot, MLK successful with his peaceful protests, being in the first classes where kids are were no longer segregated, drugs taking over, and John Lennon writing this song of peace. I saw all of that and more. Rips my soul that we went from different races being friends finally, our kids raised together without the riots we had and now we are divided again. How sad. 😢

@jademusic1211
@jademusic1211 4 жыл бұрын
@@RCHK226 I think John sincerely wanted a peaceful and loving world. I remember reading that as a teenager he would get upset over atrocities committed by others. The problem is, John had an awful lot of personal demons, and he wound up demonstrating the opposite of what he preached about. This is why Julian has a hard time to this day regarding the public adulation his father receives. John was a good musician and songwriter, and had one of the best voices in music, imo.. but he could be a lousy person, husband, father and friend. He could also be an incredibly loving, thoughtful, generous, sweet and compassionate soul..but because of his public "meltdowns" and the world being privy to his private tumultuous episodes, any good he did was overshadowed by the negative. It's a shame. I think John in his heart was an inherently good person.. but he had so much unresolved anger and pain in him due to his upbringing that he lashed out half the time, and the people closest to him paid the price. 🙁

Elton John did this song in a concert in Central Park! It was 3 months before the assassination of our beloved John Lennon!. Elton mentioned that John and he were close friends! Elton was Sean Lennon's godfather! Check out Elton singing Imagine and his beautiful piano playing! There was an after party in Times Square and Elton actually ran into John and Yoko! It was the very last time he would see John Lennon!.

CANNOT wait to share your reaction to this song w/my students along with others. Your first reactions are what I'm hoping to inspire in my students' 1st reactions to songs they wouldn't normally listen to. I appreciate your channel & very happy to have stumbled upon it! Much thanks to you both.

Timeless song and message. I could see you reacting a little to the way it ended kind of abruptly. Got me to thinking. During the time this was written it was really popular to have songs do the slow fade out, you know? I think Lennon was maybe making a point of not doing that with this song. Knowing him, he definitely did it on purpose. I'll have to really ponder that. Anyway, once again it was great to listen to this song with you. I've heard it many, many time, and love it.
