Few need an introduction to Hollywood icon John Wayne. "The Duke" was one of the biggest stars of the 20th century. His American and masculine image became his trademark, as was his skill with a shooting iron. Mementos of the beloved actor are highly prized collectibles.
This revolver was wielded by John Wayne onscreen in such films as Rooster Cogburn, The Cowboys, and his Academy Award winning role in True Grit. He can even be seen wearing it and the accompanying holster rig on the January 28, 1972 cover of Life Magazine.
Time to see what this silver screen smokewagon can do at the world's #1 auction house. "Fill your hands, you son of a bitch!"

Only admired by true Americans.......BLM says he was a racist regarding a statement made in the sixties, seventies or so.....can't remember what he said, (Google) but honestly it was true but not excepted by the BLM racist. They want to remove his statue and rename the Orange County Airport, including the local democrat government.

When I was 17 or so, I got shooting. The Club was also a museum. A Retired Major - was my mentor and educator. On Friday nights for 4 years - I shot and learned about firearms. Flintlocks - Matchlocks - handcannons. just a flash hole to light. Volcanics to a 4 bore deck mounted gun for sinking boats in India. And the Colt's - 2 I was familiar with - One smooth bore than had so much holster wear - the sides of the barrel were worn down. Finally a case hardened original - blue barrel and gorgeous. 15K was a good sale in 1980. Nice to see that Duke's gun went for a fitting sum!

An iconic pistol used in several classic films by one of the greatest Hollywood actors of the 20th century. I'd say the buyer got a great deal on it. I'm sure there are a ton of explanations for that rifle round (probably 45-70) but I read that it was in the 13th loop (right or left, idk) 13 being the letter "M", presumably for Morrison. I too use a 45-70 in the middle loop but to differentiate my 44 specials from my 44 magnums. And I get asked why all the time at the range.

Just two bidders going at it, next time with out the one might not go that high. With something like this you are not really bidding on the gun but the story of who owned it. Personally I think it sold for to much especially since it wasn’t used in that many movies. I could be wrong but not a real iconic John Wayne gun like the Winchester 92 used in more movies

@jerrynorton1080
@jerrynorton1080 2 жыл бұрын
44-40 is only "a better round" because they dident make long guns in 45 long colt, and you only needed to source one caliber of ammo to feed your winchester and your colt, the other choices were 38-40, and 32-20 as a pistol/rifle combo. The (non-original) barrel on that gun, says 44 on it, theres been some research on it, and a very few magazine articles. The blanks were the "5-in-one" type, they look like a 38-40 and could be fired in 38-40 pistol, 38-40 rifle, 44-40 pistol, and rifle, and colt's 45 long pistol. Pistol was and still is used to mean handgun, be it singleshot, double-barrel pepperbox, revolver, or "automatic".

One day when Jesus Christ returns to set up His eternal Kingdom, everything on this earth will be destroyed by fire. Nothing will be spared, even the mountains will melt. The more I ponder that the more I care less about the material things of this world. Come soon my LORD Jesus Christ 🙏

@@donaldoneill2117 actually no. I'm in my 40's, a beautiful home, successful wonderful children, a nice car, a little money and a good life. But I know what Almighty God has prepared for me and my family in His home in eternity, and I know I absolutely do not want to be in this dreadful world of people rejecting the LORD Jesus Christ and living in absolute filth and abomination one second longer than I have to. This world is not my home, I'm just a passin through, my treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue, the Angels beckon me from Heaven's open door, and I can't feel at home in this world anymore. Give your life to Jesus Christ and you will understand.

Hope he comes soon for you...and leaves your family 👪 here and hopefully your widow marries someone not so devoted that they all can have a normal life and be thankful to GOD, without it having been driven into them like a stake day in day out. Sure your not from WACO?

IMDB lists 180 appearances as an actor. But that’s not just movies, as it also includes guest appearances on TV shows (variety shows, sit coms, etc.).

Very good chance. I can't get a great look at it from the screen picture. I don't think the 2cd generation started until 1956, so it could easily be a "Antiqued" 2cd gen. It's at least a pre-war (1896-1940) model since it has the half-moon ejector rod and the spring loaded cross bolt that holds the base pin in place. If memory serves The Duke's gun was a .44-40. So I would assume, considering the time and place and etc. that it would have been a older 1st gen prop gun, but don't quote me on that.

If you will look at the picture on the wall in the video it states that it is a first generation Colt single action Army revolver .

Definitely gen-1; no gen-2 bisleys! It was a mix-and-match parts gun he had them put a larger (bisley) triggerguard bow on the regular peacemaer gripframe it had when he pulled it out of the bin
