I’m Biracial and I was the only person of color some of my friends had. I’ve had a white friend for years that calls me up ever so often to discuss what she saw in a tv show that was from the 50’s-70’s. I was born in 74 but what she’s referencing is before my time. And she calls me to discuss something she saw where race was brought up and she goes on and on about how she doesn’t see color. Ughhh. It’s absolutely frustrating. It’s like she uses me to work out the issues she sees of race that only comes to her because she sees it in some old tv show. That’s when she’s exposed to racism. If it weren’t for the fact that we have been friends for a long time, I would have never been friends with her.

You can thank leftist and democrats for that. For decades they've been telling white people that color is the most important thing and that they should feel bad for being the same skin color as people who once owned slaves. It does 1 of 2 things after years and years of repetition: it either makes you an actual racist and bitter or it makes you hyper aware of trying to make up for these sins you never committed to begin with because you yourself never owned slaves. It does nothing but keep the race issue going. Acknowledge the good and the bad of history. Learn from it. Move on. That's how we grow.

The same people who compliment my red hair will tell my black best friend they don’t “see color” and it’s SO aggravating. Oprah explained it pretty well when she was new to her wealthy neighborhood. When a neighbor she got along well with said that, she responded “well, I’m certainly black”and they reassured her “ you’re not black you’re a neighbor”. She understood they meant well, they considered her different than the negative stereotypes. People like this don’t realize they’re telling on themselves by demonstrating they believe negative stereotypes still hold true for the rest of the race. To me “I don’t see color”sounds like ( I’ll overlook your shortcomings ) or ( you’re one of the “good ones”) I have friends from all over and I’m fascinated by their backgrounds and cultures-where would we be without Italian or Mexican or Asian food? Different colors are like different flavors and they add to the mosaic of life.I’ve come to understand people who say that just don’t have better words, and it should just be appreciated as well meaning. A good friend of mine was raised in rural northern WI by his white mom and white stepdad (never met his biological father or any of his father's relatives). Dude had mannerisms whiter than me, but was especially dark skinned. He ended up doing a stint of prison time in Milwaukee, and told me how scary it was being surrounded by his own race for the first time in his life. Sure, he had plenty of pop culture references, but understood minimum amounts of the current slang/vernacular. He got caught in fights because they all thought he was trying to deny his black heritage. No one believed him that he was literally the only black kid in his community for the entirety of his school career K-12. He's a highly intellectual dude, reads voraciously (our common bond that lead to friendship) and loves a good philophical debate. The crazy thing is that all his cellmates were intentionally white dudes, because it was such a problem that he didnt "act" black.

I'll be just trying to hang out and blaze up and be buddies and then they point out something token that I never would have even considered and then it's awkward and I have to just let them have the rest of the blunt so I can leave haha. On the flipside, waaaaay back in the mid to late 2000s, my old music partner and I used to stumble into this black bar in Seattle occasionally (I wanna say it was called Kings Street or something like that) and we looked like a pair of nite-lites in the room because of how much our pastey whiteness shined in there haha.
