What I noticed was When Jesus asked Judus to follow him, he doesn’t say I will like the others do….. he pauses for a bit before responding Thankyou.

​@@Pandapadme Great point. Someone else pointed out that Judas was the only disciple who wasn't actually called by Jesus. Judas was drawn to the larger - than - life status of Jesus and went backstage to bask in his clout. His ambition was always fated to be his downfall.

@@_abracadabrayet we need to remember that Judas also preached and healed. I saw the pairing of him and Peter when they were sent out as a contrast of two sides. The fact that they were sent to Caesarea Phillipi intriguing.

Judas-"He asked me to keep the purse." Simon Z-"Then keep the purse." That was so convicting to me due to being called right now to just help my family because of chronic illness. I just need to do that and encourage my friends since that's what He's calling me to do right now.

I agree. Judas thought he was doing to right thing to bring about the kingdom through his own perspective though. Biblically the 30 pieces of silver was the cost of the purchase of a slave ironically. In Philippians 2:6-8 Who though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in appearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross.

I think this is a good way to show that good and evil isn't just black and white. A person doesn't just suddenly become evil, but is gradually corrupt that you can't tell where it was that the exact point they turned was.

What's important to remember is that Judas didn't believe according to Scripture. It's why he couldn't be saved. In The Chosen, they make Judas an over-zealous believer (he believes Jesus is the messiah, he believes the miracles, he believes the resurrection) and it's starting to worry me that it can lead many believers to doubt their Salvation assuming it's not enough to just believe. I don't know what Dallas' stance is on eternal security but I hope he's not into lordship salvation or calvinism.

@@gethsemane-777 I tend to disagree that Judas didn’t believe. I think he did at first as in Luke 9:1 Jesus sent them out to cure the sick and cast out demons. To be given that power, they would have had to have a good amount of belief in order to do the mission. I think his belief changed over time with his own ambitions. Scripture does tell us that he had remorse after the betrayal and returned the money. His remorse didn’t lead to repentance that we know of right before death, scripture doesn’t state that. I think all the disciples have a character element in humanness that we can identify with and also a resolution found in Jesus. Judas serves as a reminder of what not to do.

I won't accuse The Chosen without knowing their whole depiction of Judas in the next episodes but the current segments can lead to a false representation of Judas. Judas shouldn't be used as the representation of believers losing their salvation due to bad choices, because Judas wasn't a believer in the first place. The moment one believes the Good News they are saved forever, sealed by the Holy Spirit. My point is that the show could bring unnecessary fear to already saved Christians.

I’ve noticed that too! The other disciples were called to follow Jesus. But Judas actually went up to Jesus and asked to follow Him.

@@tbastrikes7847 Well, no it’s not in the Bible. In the Bible, it’s really only Peter, Andrew, the Sons of Thunder, and Nathaniel who are “seen” as being called. The rest of the apostles are typically named. We’re referring to Season 3, episode 1 when Judas talks to Jesus.

I've struggled with addiction and have had to learn true repentance. It's not that repentance is completely turning from every sin period, but it's daily allowing Jesus to change us and if we mess up, running straight to Jesus and doing better the next time.

@@JeeCeee yes but mercy is needed, it's not a natural thing. It's not like your mind is "normal" We can't judge the brain of a depressed person, a bi-polar, a schizophrenic, someone who is crushed by loss. We aren't all Job or find the solace. We can't judge, we must forgive as he taught.

@@workinprogress-ye5orI agree with you. The Lord our Father knows our hearts and minds. It is an illness. Our brains are broken. I know. I know God’s grace is abundant because we have medication to help us. It isn’t something that you can snap out of or fix through faith. I believe God intervened when I found the right doctor and medicine. But I know others who lost their battle with mental health and can’t imagine them being turned away from everlasting life because of their disease. Thank you.

​@@GRACE4LYFE It isn't simply Judas' fate to betray Jesus, as if nothing can be changed. The mystery of the Kingdom is that Judas, like all of us, is free to decide what to do and not to do. God, being outside of time, knows what the outcome will be. But Judas, at each moment of his earthly life, has a free choice to make!

Or a nod to the fact that Romans often used pig leather for their apparel? Which would, of course, be abhorrent to faithful Jews. The Chosen writers often use such subtle references that it's hard to tell. Regarding Judas, I think the casting of Luke Dimyan - with his big blue eyes and innocent baby-face looks - is just perfect. I've always imagined him looking like a dark, mustache-twirling villain. The script writing and Luke's portrayal almost force me to think about Judas a bit differently.
