TOEFL Speaking Practice Task 2
If you want a high score in TOEFL Speaking task 2, you must answer the question in a specific way that addresses all the points the examiner is looking for in your answer. I tell you what TOEFL Speaking task 2 is about, what you need to do to get a high score and I answer the practice question that you can find in the ETS practice test using my TOEFL Speaking template. If you practice speaking several times and if you use a TOEFL Speaking template, you can get a high score in TOEFL Speaking.
Go to www.ets.org/toefl/test-takers.... Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the PDF. The speaking practice task starts on page 3.

The Task
TOEFL Speaking Task 2 is also called the campus announcement. First, you read an article that talks about a change and gives reasons for this change, for example, this can be an article of a university newspaper. Then you listen to a conversation between two persons who discuss the article. One person will talk about her opinion regarding the article and she will give reasons for her opinion. Your task is to talk about the opinion of the speaker and state the reasons she gives to support her opinion. Sometimes the question also asks you to give a quick summary of the announcement. You have 30 seconds to prepare your answer and 60 seconds to speak.
What do you have to do to get a high score?
1. Use a template
A template is a life-saver because it gives you sentence starters that you can memorize. This means that when you are taking the TOEFL you will not need to think about how to start your sentences. That is amazing because in task 2 in TOEFL Speaking you do not have time to think about that as you only have 30 seconds to prepare your answer. This is just enough time to think about the key points you want to address. A TOEFL Speaking template saves you time and makes you confident because you know that you have a structure you can rely on. 2. Structure your answer
You must deliver a well-structured answer. Use this structure:
1. Change
2. Reasons for the change - only if questions asks you to do that
3. Transition
4. Reasons of the speaker
3. Show off your vocabulary
Use linking words such as first, second. Also, use synonyms, for example, do not always use ‘to say’, use words like ‘to state’, ‘to point out’ and so on.
Task 2 in the ETS practice test
The announcement states that the university's sculpture program will be discontinued. It gives two reasons for this change and then there is a transcript of a conversation between two students who talk about this change. In the TOEFL test you will listen to this conversation, but here in the practice test you have to read the transcript.
The female student is not happy about the announcement and she gives two reasons for why the sculpture program should be continued in the future. Pay attention here: The question asks you to state the woman's opinion and to talk about the reasons she provides to support her opinion. The question does not ask you to give a summary of the announcement. Nevertheless, I recommend including the reasons of the announcement in your answer because the woman refers to them.

Hello Yuva ! I have an important question concerning the new Version 2021 of the TOEFL. For Task 2, 3 and 4 of the Speaking Section, will we still have the text under the eyes when we prepare our answer ? Because on some practices on youtube, I have seen that the text disappears and you can't go back to it. Hi Favour, thank you, I'm so glad you like the video :). A good way to practice speaking at home is to record yourself. After that you listen to the recording and think about what you could improve. Then you record yourself again and you check again. Hope this helps :).

Hey Harsimran, your unofficial scores may be the same as your official scores but they may also change. My unofficial scores for Reading and Listening were the same as my official scores.

Hi Juva! Thanks for the amazing videos. I got 95 on my first attempt but my goal is 100+ for LLM in US. I've already bought your templates but I would be grateful if you have any additional recommendations. Hi Pınar, I'm so glad you like the videos :). Congratulations, 95 is an amazing score and it's very close to your dream score, so you can definitely do this! I'd recommend this: First, figure out where your strengths and weakness are. Then focus on your weak spots. Have a look at my playlists and pick the videos you need. Regarding TOEFL Reading, I'd recommend doing as many practice tests as you can - you can find free practice tests on the ETS website. Regarding TOEFL Writing, practice writing and time yourself. Make sure that you use linking words, a broad range of vocabulary and that your essays are well-structured - the templates help you do this. Practice for TOEFL Speaking using the template and time yourself. I'd recommend using the past tense when it says so in the template because this will get you points. You are so close to your dream score, you can do this! :)

Hello Lucero I'm so glad you like the videos :). Usually, the question will ask you about both, but of course you always need to be prepared that this might change. If this happens, I would nevertheless talk about the general concept as well since the examples will probably only make sense if you put them in context.

@@juva Hello Juva it's me again 😅. I mean to questions that look like this: "Using the examples of the peanut bug and the morpho butterfly, explain the concept of revealing coloration." (this is from ETS practice set). Or like this "using the examples providing in the lecture, explains the concept of social marketing". Or "using the examples from the lecture explain the importance of sharing personal information". In these cases how can we answer the question properly?

@@lucerorodriguez2572 You have a general explanation of a concept and the examples. So you take the examples and you combine that with the general principle. This means that you should illustrate the concept by using the examples. Does this help? :)

I'm so glad you like the video. That's an excellent question! In this case you do it in the same way: you first give the reasons the notice provides and after that you state the reasons that the man/woman provides. This means that you can use the same template. Hope this helps :).

Hey Pradnya, you have to state the reasons the relevant person gives. This means that you should listen very closely to the audio and figure out the reasons she provides. Does this help?

Don't worry, in the beginning everything may seem overwhelming but once you start preparing it will get better :). Figure out your strengths and weaknesses and have a look at my playlists and pick the videos you need. Hope this helps :).

Thank you! I'd recommend practicing regularly. In particular, it's important that you speak out loud so that you get used to speaking.
