Semma semma...2019 la i have climbed that sigiriya rock it was very difficult to walk but always there is a saying Difficult roads lead to beautiful places andha top view top notch..Worth the time spent in that place Actually in 2019 when we visited srilanka we went to Kandy,Nuwarya ilaya , negombo ..The train route from Kandy to Nuwarya ilaya will be like a ooty mountain train ride ...it was a very nice trip

I had an oppertunity to travel to srilanka from chennai as a transit passenger. I had only one and a half days as free time before catching flight to Thailand. The year was1987. Even during civil war days, I was able to travel to Kandy crossing army check posts and visited temple of Buddha's tooth and botanical garden and many spice gardens on the way. Though there were only two persons staying in the hotel due to civil war, i never had a doubt for my personal safety. Srilankan roads were better and Colombo airport was much, much better than Chennai airport at that time. Had Sri Lankan people ever trusted each other and never lived in the past historical animosities, and had foresighted leaders who were willing to dump socialism and started creating more wealth, the two. communities could have never gone for civil war in the first place. Though blessed with natural resources, because lack of political leaders with vision creating more wealth, abundant oppertunities for youngsters and a sense of national unity, srilanka could have become another Singapore or Hongkong or South Korea. It is a classic case of missed oppertunities to the nation and its citizens. What else to say ?

This episode really made me to feel i also visited with you and enjoyed the wonderful nature. I am moved wi th your words wishing mr Joseph's for 100 years and praising his qualities. I have been there during mid 2019 , what i heard from locals is that those elephants are domesticated, in a sence that, passers by offering fruits and veggies so it becomes a custom for this elephants to stand by the road and expecting food from the travellers.
