Karl talks more sense sometimes than they make out. He's not as daft as they try to make him look. The way Karl's mind works, isn't much different to the average person, he's just not shy of admiting it without sounding stupid.
@teejayaich4306 Жыл бұрын
The part about his mind and way being like the average person but more honest is terrifying but insightful. The average person is a mix of ignorant (with little to no attempt to ever become less so - some outright PROUD of knowing almost nothing about the mind blowing and wonderful multiverse we live in) and idiocy (ignorance is curable, idiocy is largely genetic and childhood/schooling/culture)
@teejayaich4306 Жыл бұрын
Oh, also, with that dismal evaluation of most people's mental capacity (I think ignorance and injurious complacency is o0% of the problem - if the prevailing culture wasn't a mix of lukewarm (left) and explicitly hostile (right) to the very concept of learning, science, and expertise, I think current human biology is capable of unimaginable feats of learning, understanding, and exploration, but it's so focused on making your shitty underpayment anti-creativity jobs we are forced to do for a wee fraction of the profit produced by you yourself .

😂[The scene opens with a dimly lit stage. A spotlight illuminates a lone microphone stand in the center. As the audience settles down, Ricky Gervais, dressed in a black suit, walks onto the stage with a mischievous grin.] RICKY GERVAIS: Ladies and gentlemen, thank you, thank you! Tonight, I want to talk to you about someone who's become a legend in his own right. A man who has single-handedly redefined the word "idiot." Yes, you guessed it, Karl Pilkington. [The audience chuckles and applauds.] RICKY GERVAIS: Now, Karl is not your typical bloke. No, no, no. He's a special kind of bloke. The kind that makes you question the very fabric of human intelligence. I mean, if there was a contest for the most bizarre thoughts, Karl would win it hands down. And let's be honest, it's not a competition anyone would want to win. [Laughter ripples through the audience.] RICKY GERVAIS: Karl is a man who sees the world through a unique lens. You know, the kind of lens you find at the bottom of a pint glass after a night of heavy drinking. But let me tell you, it's precisely that lens that makes him a comedic genius. I've known Karl for years, and I can safely say that he's the most unintentionally funny person I've ever met. [The crowd bursts into laughter.] RICKY GERVAIS: You see, Karl has this ability to take the simplest things and turn them into absurd, mind-boggling tales. I remember once, we were having a chat about evolution, and Karl comes up with this gem of a theory. He says, "What if dinosaurs never really went extinct? What if they just got smaller and turned into birds?" I mean, imagine that! T-Rexes ruling the skies, terrorizing pigeons. It's preposterous, but it's pure Karl. [The audience erupts in laughter and applause.] RICKY GERVAIS: But it's not just his theories that make Karl so endearing. It's his complete lack of self-awareness. He's like a walking contradiction. On the one hand, he's the most skeptical person you'll ever meet. He questions everything, and I mean everything. On the other hand, he's so gullible that you can convince him that a potato is the next big thing in fashion, and he'll believe it. [The crowd laughs heartily.] RICKY GERVAIS: Karl's adventures around the world have also provided us with some priceless moments. From his hilarious encounters with foreign cultures to his baffling travel habits, it's like watching a real-life Mr. Bean, but without the charm or grace. [The audience bursts into laughter.] RICKY GERVAIS: Now, some people might call Karl an idiot, but I think that's far too simple a label. Karl is a philosopher, a visionary of stupidity. He's a man who dares to ask the questions no one else would even consider asking. Questions like, "Why don't we use more of our brain? Is it because we're saving it for something really important, like when we're asleep?" I mean, who else but Karl could come up with that? [The crowd roars with laughter

Steve's wrong about the "Politely marching across no-mans land" for World War 1. WW1 was actually comprised of a lot of urban, woodland, mountain, and desert combat. The forced charges toward MG nests was during the Stalemates, and were mostly done by the French out of desperation. Which they quickly changed due to massive losses. They figured that out pretty quickly with snipers, tunnel digging, clouds of gas, creeping artillery barrages, Night time trench raids, and eventually, tanks. Edit; Technically, Karls right on Rickys fact about the English not wanting to use Crossbows. It was likely more to do with cronyism than it being "an unskilled, dishonorable weapon". The Catholic Church tried to ban them, yet in the Battle of Crecy, (theoretically banned) English Crossbowmen drove back (Theoretically banned) French Crossbowmen. Plus, The English ban was more to do with increasing the use of longbows, which I'm sure Royalty at the time were pocketing money through sales of said longbows. A well trained Longbowman can outshoot a novice Crossbowman in every way. And most people back then were VERY proficient with a bow.

Yeah plus sometimes they had to walk due to the fact they were bringing all their gear with them which weighed them down like during the battle of the Somme
@jimmyrustler89832 жыл бұрын
@@nayten0324 WW1 was a mostly Horsepowered war. The scarred, cratered landscape being as it was, it was usually easier to move artillery pieces and equipment via horse. Walking in that mud must have been hell. Especially with all the corpses mixed into it, too.

Not sure why Ricky was contesting Karl's view that the appearance of food influences whether or not we want to eat it, I think that's the case for a lot of people! For me, the presentation of a dish is not extremely important but well presented food can definitely make it more appealing IMO.
