India has a huge energy source in Kerala that can meet its energy needs for the next thousand years. However, Kerala is currently an energy-deficient state, and a significant portion of our electrical power is imported from other states. This is because we have not yet started using this energy source.
Natural resources play an important role in making a country prosperous. If a country has a lot of a particular natural resource compared to other countries, it is a big lottery. India and Kerala have such an advantage.
Natural resources can be fossil fuels like coal, petrol, diesel, or metals like iron, copper, and gold.
Today, fossil fuels are the main energy source used in the world. Their main drawback is carbon emissions and the resulting global warming. However, there is a special type of metal on Earth that can produce clean energy without these disadvantages. India has the most of this metal, and one-third of it is found in India. A significant portion of this metal is also found in Kerala.
Recently, Kerala approached the central government with a proposal to generate electricity using this metal, which is found in abundance in Kerala.
What is this metal that can provide so much energy? Where is it found in Kerala? How can energy be produced from it? What are its advantages? Let's find out through this video.

ഇന്ത്യയുടെ, അടുത്ത ഒരായിരം വർഷത്തേക്കുള്ള മൊത്തം ഊർജ്ജ ആവശ്യങ്ങൾ നിറവേറ്റാൻ കഴിയുന്ന അത്രയും വലിയ ഒരു energy Source നമ്മുടെ കേരളത്തിൽ ഉണ്ട്. എന്നിട്ടും കേരളം ഇന്ന് ഒരു Energy Deficient അഥവാ വൈദ്യുതി പോരായ്മയുള്ള ഒരു സംസ്ഥാനം ആണ് എന്നതാണ് വിരോധാഭാസം. നമുക്കാവശ്യമായ electrical powerഇന്റെ നല്ല ഒരു ശതമാനം ഇന്ന് മറ്റു സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും import ചെയ്യപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട് . കാരണം കേരളത്തിന്റെ ആ energy Source നമ്മൾ ഇനിയും ഉപയോഗിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങിയിട്ടില്ല.
ഒരു നാടിനെ സമ്പന്നമാകുന്നതിൽ അവിടുത്തെ natural resources അഥവാ പ്രകൃതി സമ്പത്തിന് നല്ല ഒരു role ഉണ്ട്. മറ്റു രാജ്യങ്ങളെ അപേക്ഷിച്ച്, ഏതെങ്കിലും ഒരു particular Natural resource, ഒരു രാജ്യത്ത് കൂടുതൽ ഉണ്ടെങ്കിൽ അത് ഒരു വലിയ Lottery തന്നെയാണ്. അത്തരം ഒരു advantage ഇന്ത്യക്കും പ്രിത്യേകിച്ചു കേരളത്തിനും ഉണ്ട്.
Natural resources എന്ന് പറയുമ്പോ, അതിപ്പോ കൽക്കരി, Petrol, diesel പോലുള്ള fossil ഇന്ധനങ്ങള്‍ ആകാം, അല്ലെങ്കിൽ Iron, Copper, Gold ഒക്കെ പോലെയുള്ള എന്തെങ്കിലും ലോഹങ്ങൾ ആകാം അങ്ങനെ പല തരം Natural Resources ഉണ്ട്.
ഇന്ന് ലോകം മുഴുവനും പ്രധാന എനർജി source ആയിട്ട് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത് fossil ഇന്ധനങ്ങൾ ആണ്. അവയുടെ പ്രധാന drawback Carbon Emmissionഉം അതുമൂലം ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന global warmingഉം ആണ്. എന്നാൽ ഈ പറഞ്ഞ ദോഷവശങ്ങളൊന്നും ഇല്ലാതെതന്നെ clean energy produce ചെയ്യാൻ കഴിയുന്ന ഒരു പ്രിത്യേക തരം Metal അഥവാ ലോഹം നമ്മുടെ ഭൂമിയിൽ ഉണ്ട്. ആ ലോഹം ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ ഉള്ളത് ഇന്ത്യയിലാണ്. ഭൂമിയുടെ ഉപരിതലത്തിലുള്ള ഈ ലോഹത്തിന്റെ മൂന്നിലൊന്നു ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ആണ് ഉള്ളത്. അതിൽ നല്ലൊരു ശതമാനം കേരളത്തിൽ ഉണ്ട്. കേരളത്തില്‍ ധാരളമായി കണ്ടുവരുന്ന ഈ ലോഹം ഉപയോഗിച്ച് Electricty ഉത്പാദിപ്പിക്കാനുള്ള ഒരു പ്രൊപോസലുമായി കേരളം കേന്ദ്രത്തിന്റെ സമീപിച്ചു എന്ന് കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ വാർത്തയിൽ കാണാൻ ഇടയായി.
ഇത്രയും ഊർജ്ജം തരാൻ കഴിയുന്ന ആ metal ഏതാണാ? കേരളത്തിൽ അതെവിടെയാണ് കണ്ടു വരുന്നത്? അതിൽ നിന്നും എങ്ങിനെ എനർജി ഉണ്ടാക്കാം? അതിന്റെ ഗുണങ്ങൾ എന്തൊക്കെയാണ്? നമുക്ക് ഈ വീഡിയോ വഴി കണ്ടു നോക്കാം.

സാറെ എനിക്കിപ്പോൾ വയസ് എഴുപത്തഞ്ചായി. ഞാൻ ചെറിയ ക്ലാസ്സിൽ പഠിക്കുമ്പോൾ അന്നത്തെ എന്റെ ടീച്ചർ ഈ പറഞ്ഞ കാര്യങ്ങൾ പഠിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു. നമ്മുടെ സംസ്ഥാന തീരത്തു അപൂർവ ലോഹ മണൽ ഉണ്ടെന്നും, അതുപയോഗിച്ചു ഊർജോല്പാദനം ഉണ്ടാകാമെന്നും ടീച്ചർ അന്ന് പഠിപ്പിച്ചു. ഇന്നിപ്പോൾ ഈ ഗീർവാണം കേൾക്കുമ്പോൾ, ഇനിയും ഒരാൺപതു അറുപതു വർഷങ്ങൾ കഴിഞ്ഞാലും താങ്കളെപ്പോലെ ആരെങ്കിലും വീണ്ടും ഇത് ഇതിലും ഭംഗിയായി പറയും എന്നല്ലാതെ നമ്മുടെ നിലവിലെ നേതാക്കൾ ഇതിനെപറ്റി ചിന്തിക്കുമെന്നു തോന്നുന്നില്ല. ഇടുക്കി ജല വൈദ്യുതി പദ്ധതി 70 കളിൽ വന്നപ്പോഴും ഇതൊക്കെ തന്നെ പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. ചിലവില്ലാത്ത ഊർജം ഉത്പാദിപ്പിച്ചു ജനങ്ങൾക്കു ഇരുപാട് ഗുണം ഉണ്ടാകുമെന്നു!!! എന്തായി എന്നിട്ടെന്ന് നമുക്കിന്നറിയാം Kseb എന്ന വെള്ളാന തടിച്ചു കൊഴുത്തു!! തിരുവിതാംകൂർ രാജാവ് പള്ളിവാസൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു,ksrtc കൊണ്ടുവന്നു,kerala സർവകലാശാല കൊണ്ടുവന്നു അതെല്ലാം സ്വതന്ത്രിയനാന്തരം പൊതുമേഖലയാക്കി കുട്ടിച്ചോറാക്കി നമുക്കു തന്നു. മോണോസൈറ്റ് ഇല്മനൈറ്റ് തോറിയം ടൈറ്റാനിയം ഇവയ്ർല്ലാം ചേർന്ന. ലോഹമണൽ അന്യ സംസ്ഥാനത്തേക്കും മറ്റു സ്വകാര്യ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളിലേക്ക് കടത്താൻ നേതാക്കൾ പടി വാങ്ങി കടത്തിന് കൂട്ട് നില്കുന്നു. ആരെങ്കിലും സത്യം പറഞ്ഞാൽ അവനെ പേടിയാകുന്നു. 22:12 ഇനിപറയു ഈ ധാദു മണൽ എത്രയോ കാലമായി നമുക്കുപയോഗികമായിരുന്നു, പക്ഷെ. അധികാരികൾ മറ്റെന്തോ അന്വേഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിന്നു കാലം കഴിഞ്ഞുപോയി. കാറ്റിൽ നിന്നും സൂര്യനിൽ നിന്നും കൽക്കരിയിൽ നിന്നും പ്രകൃതി വാതകത്തിൽ നിന്നും ഊർജം ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന പലേ പദ്ധതികളും ഈ കാലയളവിൽ ഗീര്വാണമടിച്ചു നമ്മുടെ വയർ നിറച്ചു. നമുക്കിതു കേട്ടു ketirikam. !!!

❤ നല്ല അവതരണം. സാധാരണക്കാരെ ശാസ്ത്ര സാങ്കേതിക പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളുമായി പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തി കൊണ്ടുപോകാൻ സഹായിക്കുന്നു. പലപ്പോഴും ഒറ്റ തവണ കേൾവിയിലൂടെ കര്യങ്ങൾ മനസ്സിലാക്കാൻ കഴിയില്ലെങ്കിലും അവർത്തിച്ചുള്ള കേൾവിയിലൂടെ സാധ്യമാകും. പക്ഷേ തിരക്കില്ലാത്ത മനുഷ്യരായ നമ്മൾക്ക് വീൻ്റുമൊന്നുകൂട്ടി കേൾക്കാൻ കഴിയുമെന്ന് തോന്നുന്നില്ല. ഇതുപോലെ പല പല ഘട്ടങ്ങളിലായി പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ കൊണ്ട് സങ്കീർണ്ണ മായവ കുറേക്കൂടി ദൈർഘം കുറച്ചു പല പല ഭാഗങ്ങളായി അവതരിപ്പിച്ചാൽ ഏറെ പ്രയോജനം ചെയ്യുമെന്ന് തോന്നുന്നു.. കൂടൂതൽ വിഷയങ്ങളിൽ ജനങ്ങൾക്ക് അറിവുണ്ടാകട്ടെ... അറിവുണ്ടാകുമ്പോൾ അനാവശ്യ എതിർപ്പുകൾ കുറയും.. ശാസ്ത്രബോധം കൂടൂതൽ പേർക്കുണ്ടാകാൻ പരിപാടി സഹായിക്കും.. അനൂപ് സർ ന് ആശംസകൾ..🎉

ഇപ്പോൾ തന്നെ കായംകുളത്ത് കരിമണൽ വാരി തീരാറായി. ഇനി അതിന്റെ കുഴപ്പമേയുള്ളു. ഇതാവുമ്പോൾ ഇനി എല്ലാവർക്കും മാസപ്പടി വാങ്ങാൻ ഒരു വ്യവസായം റെഡി.

Good explanation, I don't think our state has any idea about how it's gonna be implemented. Department of atomic energy RD team is been studying this for last two decades about thorium power plants, since India has the largest thorium deposit. The fundamental problem is thorium is not fissile in nature It is not possible to build a nuclear reactor using Thorium (Thorium-232) alone due to its physics characteristics. Thorium has to be converted to Uranium-233 in a reactor before it can be used as fuel. Hence, a three stage reactor is needed which no one ever built. However, China almost completed this and it ready for testing. Pros of Thorium: - Almost no nuclear harmful wastes - Remaing Nuclear wastes can not be used for making weopens. - Enrichment process not needed like uranium - One ton of thorium can produce the energy compared to 200 tons of uranium - Abundant

അഥവാ ഈ project successful ആയാൽ തന്നെ ഇതിന്റെ സപ്ലൈ KSEB പോലൊരു സംവിധാനത്തിന് കൊടുത്താൽ ജനങ്ങൾക്ക് ഉപകാരം ഉണ്ടാവുകയില്ല. കെടുകാര്യസ്ഥതയും ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥ ഭരണവും കാരണം maintenance പോലും നേരെ നടക്കില്ല. Central govt or external agencies മാത്രമേ നടത്തിപ്പാവകാശം കൊടുക്കാവൂ

Somehow Thorium can be converted into U233 only in a fast reactor and not in a thermal reactor. That's why India had adopted a 3-stage nuclear program i. e. thermal stage for producing enough plutonium for the second fast stage (this stage is successful ), second stage where Thorium will be converted into U233 (not yet successful ) and the third stage of power production using U233 obtained from the second stage. Now you know why the Thorium deposits of Kerala are lying untapped. It's understood that Dept. of Atomic Energy has sanctioned a U233 power plant in Maharashtra. Details are not known to me.

Till 2010 India was the leader in Thorium research, but the Congress Govt in the center signed the Nuclear Deal with the US that destroyed any incentive to further research in this field. On top of that, even the Nuclear deal was useless as no additional projects were started based on this agreement. Please note that Thorium technology is still in a nascent stage, as the entire thrust of nuclear research was on Uranium-Plutonium cycle as it was also capable of providing weapons grade fuel. That is not the case with Thorium cycle.

Since Thorium Reactors are less dangerous and more productive, Kerala Government must do its efforts in all possible ways to get permission from the Central Government to start such ones across the Chavara-Kayamkulam belt where this mineral is found in abundance.. The plausibility of so many miniature reactors opens up wide chances towards substantial power generation... A government which is giving great emphasis to build start-ups across Kerala for reducing unemployment among the youth should give paramount importance to this priceless treasure which can solve our power as well as financial crunch forever.

Well said. IAEA General Conference held in New Delhi in early 80's was also deeply concerned about nuclear waste management. It would pose great danger to generations to come even if buried. The plant cannot be safe, too. However, this topic is well presented. The global demand for energy is ever increasing.

That is exactly similar to what you just said. It has no commonality with what is being discussed here. 1) The current discussion is about Thorium reactors. Currently there are no Thorium reactors in production. All the existing reactors are research reactors. 2) Nuclear waste management is different for Thorium compared to Uranium-Plutonium cycle. Nuclear waste can be reintroduced into the reaction cycle to burn the fuel further along with fresh Thorium fuel. This gives us an opportunity to consume even the existing nuclear waste from previous nuclear reactors that used Uranium-Plutonium cycle. 3) Till the 2010, 75% of all papers published on Thorium research was from India, so we were already the sector leaders. 4} Thorium cycle has some inherent processes that can be used to prevent it from becoming a runaway reaction. It is so safe that the US was planning to build a Thorium reactor to power an aircraft.

Why can't we generate power from waves. I think no study promoting there. If this is done, India will be one of the blessed land with 1/3 of its boundary touching sea. Somebody want us to be used fossil fuel by importing. Our leaders must have a vision of exporting this green energy instead of making people spend for sombodies pocket.

Small modular nuclear reactors of 300 to 600 MW are ideal for the future. Even such mobile modular reactors are in plan. These reactors are very low risk, cheap (compared to other power sources) moreover it's good for covering the requirements of small cities without transmission power loss. Thorium reactors are not yet practical based on financial aspect.
